Chapter Twenty – Confrontation.
Debby noticed the man staring at her again, she frowned. This was one of the reasons she avoided coming to America. There was always some annoyed freak hoping to kidnap her.
The last time it happened, it was because she was Chinese and the man wanted China to release his brother in jail in exchange for her freedom. The audacity!
But she did like the idea of being sort after, only she preferred if it was by Damien.
The summit was coming to an end and Damien was the one speaking.
The students were cheering and screaming after he announced a donation and offered free tour around his company for the young engineers.
Debby smiled as he received the praise but her smile faded when she realized that the ‘proud wife moment’ belonged to someone else not her.
It was twenty minutes before the summit would end, she left her seat through the back and aimed to meet with Arya.
She couldn’t just keep calm about what she saw, she wanted that cheating wife to know she and her husband caught her chatting with another man.
Students, at the back, stared at her in awe as she cat walked through the hall with a straight face.
“Hey, Arya.” She called when she sighted her.
She tried to sound as friendly and responsible as she could, after all she was a respected public speaker and genius while that girl was a poor gold digger.
Arya’s face squeezed, seeing the girl. She had basically wished not to meet the girl today. “Yes, Debby? Nice speech you gave there. It made you sound like an inspiration, ironic.”
Winx smirked at Arya’s words, eyeing the girl up and down. Her best friend had told her about the little brat bothering her about.
Debby smirked, walking closer to her, she knew eyes were on her so she smiled broadly. “Just meet me outside.” She turned away as she said that, faking the sweetest smile on her face.
Winx held Arya as she tried to leave. “Scream if that brat uses any kung-fu moves on you, okay?”
Arya chuckled, “Sure. I’d scream and you’d come out and take them with me.” She walked off, leaving Winx with a pout.
“So, what did you want to say?” she folded her arms around her chest. Her eyes scanned the cream dress that was on Debby and noticed how tight it was on her body.
They were silver heels on her feet and her hair was curled at the end. She remembered seeing light makeup on her face with cute freckles spray.
She was basically a teenage speaker, was there any need to dress up that much? Who was she trying to impress?
“Debby?” she called again, seeing the girl just backed her without saying a word. She advanced towards her. “Did you have anything to say?”
Just as she held her hands to pull her back, the hand moved quicker and landed on her face, making Arya back off. It was then she noticed the ridiculously pointed nails Debby fixed, which just pierced besides her eyes.
“You slapped me?” Arya’s jaw fell. What was the meaning of that? She wanted to fight back but the submissiveness her father forced inside in her didn’t let her.
“And will do it again if you don’t give me a good answer. What were you doing with the governor’s son? For crying it loud, you’re just a week as wife of Sir Damien!” she yelled.
Arya’s eyes enlarged. She had seen that? Had Damien seen it too? She knew she didn’t do anything wrong but it’d be weird if he did. “That guy is my friend. Can’t I speak with friends?”
“Male friends? No, you are married. Even female friends with lower class like that girl you’re besides? No! You are not a skilled gold digger or you’d know you have to play the part.”
Debby’s words striked painful chords in Arya’s heart. She couldn’t be friends with people she liked because she was a wife of Sir Damien? What bullshit!
But then her mind went back to the paparazzi and how they invaded her privacy. Indeed it was the life of a rich lady. And gold digger?
Why will she be accused of being a godly digger? Wasn’t she playing the part of Damien’s wife? No one had to suspect.
She exhaled, staring at Debby in the eye. “Why do you care if I’m a gold digger? You are just a guest at my house.”
“I am Damien’s guest and I know him before you did. I know when he’s making mistakes, like he is now. You are a big mistake…”
A heavy slap landed on Debby’s face at that moment.
Arya smiled in relief. “I have been looking for an avenue to do that. And I’d correct you there, I am his wife and not a mistake. Speak more and you’d be sent to a hotel.”
Debby couldn’t believe what just happened. The gold digger dared hit her. It felt more painful that it should.
“So, I believe we are done here. Get inside and be a good girl. Enjoy your few days remaining here in America.” Arya scoffed then walked back inside.
Debby looked around to be sure no one saw that. She clenched her fists, rubbing her temples. Pain and anger raging in her head.
Winx smiled seeing Arya walk in with confident strides and a proud smirk. “You put her in place, right? I was awaiting the scream, not gone lie.”
“Glad I disappointed you then. That bitch slapped me and called me a gold digger, tsk. I reminded her she was a guest in my house then slapped her back.” Arya shook her head.
Winx went backwards. That little girl really had some guts to hit an older person. All the Asians she knew were really respectful with older ones.
“But there’s a problem.” Arya nudged Winx. She looked at her best friend with a questioning look.
“Debby suspects that I am not really into Damien. She saw me with Seth and confronted me about it. I need to act like I’m in love with Damien.” Arya revealed.
Winx nodded. “Hell, you do. You are his new bride, sitting with another guy. It’s weird, I told you, didn’t I?”
Arya exhaled with her mouth, she just wasn’t great at acting but it shouldn’t be so hard since the man was a nice person. She only hoped he’d understand she was acting.
“Fine, I’d act like I’m in love with him in front of them all. I have to make this plan work or I could end up with my father with more bills to pay.”
Winx shook her head. “That’s not happening. Just play the role and hope he doesn’t fall for you.” she smiled.
Arya nodded. She should also hope she doesn’t fall for him. It was possible as he was always nice to her.
