Stop The Investigations

Alex was seated in the wheelchair. He stared into space and was obviously disturbed.
The door flung open unexpectedly. He turned around and beheld Lisa walking in.
“Lisa?….” He called out surprisingly.
“It seems I have become a nuisance and you are tired of seeing me!” Lisa blurted out.
“You know that is not true… I am just happy that you are back… I did not expect that you would return so soon. I know you are…” Alex said but Lisa cut in.
“Nah… Rather than being angry, I am tired, perplexed and confused. I am unsure if I made the right decision to stay back,” Lisa mumbled.
“I am sorry about it all. I know my infidelity cost me your trust. My words hold no value to you.. but Lisa, you have to believe me this time. I am not responsible for Marie’s pregnancy,” Alex said.
“Prove it! I need proof! At this point, you don’t expect me to believe that gibberish. I need proof!” Lisa yelled.
“Why not? My words are genuine. Marie is a slut and an impostor. I am not responsible for her. She has multiple sex partners… And a proof? Yeah… I overheard her discussion with one of her friends on the phone. She was advised to pin the pregnancy on me since I was the richest amongst her sex partners. She was still working as my secretary and I was not aware she was pregnant. I got the full meaning of the discussion after she broke the news of her pregnancy,” Alex blabbered.
“Did you call that a proof?! An unverified testimony from the mouth of an infidel!” Lisa yelled and turned her back against him. “Oh my goodness! I am doomed!” She muttered and sobbed quietly.
Suddenly, she felt Alex’s hands on her shoulders. She shook them off and continued to sob. She came to her senses when Alex gripped her shoulders for the second time. She turned around swiftly and Alex was dis stabilized by her sudden movement. He staggered and fell on the bed.
“What have you done? Are you alright? Why did you stand on your feet? The doctor said you can’t do that yet!” Lisa yelled in concern. She sniffled and cleaned up the tears on her face.
Alex stared into her wet eyes and smiled warmly. “You worry too much,” he said. He tilted slightly off the bed and took hold of one of Lisa’s hands. He pulled her to himself.
Lisa fell flat onto his chest. She was clearly flustered. Alex lifted up his head and took her lips in his. He kissed her passionately.
Lisa broke off from the kiss and tried to rise up but Alex had clappsed his hands behind her and he refused to let her go.
“I have missed you,” he muttered. “What the heck are you doing?! Your face…” Lisa yelled in concern. She was all shades of red. It’s been a while since she was in such contact. Her heart swelled and her body responded against her wish.
Alex did not let her go. He tilted his head up again and went for another kiss. Alex was surprised as Lisa responded and kissed him back. She kissed him passionately before breaking to catch her breath.
“Lisa? You have to trust me. I want to make you happy but I can’t do it alone. You have to trust me all the way. I am not a jerk… Right, I was one in the past but I won’t hide anything from you at this point,” Alex cooed into her ears while Lisa remained overtop him.
Having said his mind. Alex released his grips. He held onto her hand and rose to sit on the bed while Lisa pulled away.
She straightened her rumpled blouse and folded her hand across her breasts.
“Did you know the fire outbreak was not accidental? It was an arson. Marie seems to be the one behind it. I told you about her threat. We are investigating it already,” Lisa broke the silence.
Alex kept mute and looked away.
“You don’t look surprised… Seems you’re aware already,” Lisa pushed.
“Can you please drop the investigation for now?” Alex whispered without looking at Lisa.
“What the hell did you say? I should stop what? I don’t get you. Are you saying this because it involves your mistress? Are you trying to save her face? I don’t understand you!” Lisa fired and Alex regretted his choice of words immediately.
“Why would I cover up for a woman who tried to destroy me? I am trying to keep my family and the company safe. If it is Marie, just drop the case. I will deal with it when I am fully recovered. Marrie is a dangerous woman, she is not someone you can mess with,” Alex argued.
Lisa gave a sarcastic laughter. “There you go. Don’t give me that shit! I am sick and tired of our endless arguments. How can you tell me to fold my arms and do nothing after she almost razed down your company and sent you into a coma. You think she would harm me? You have underestimated me. I am out of here,” Lisa said and made her way to the door.
Alex watched her leave and heaved a sigh.
Few minutes later, the door opened again and Lisa stuck her head in. “Least I forgot, I actually wanted to inform you about an upcoming surgery. The doctor advised that since you are recovering fast the surgery should not be delayed.” Lisa said.
“Surgery? What are you talking about? I wasn’t aware of any,” Alex responded.
Lisa walked back in and said in an even tone, “Yes, you are right, I was waiting for the best time to inform you. The doctor proposed facial surgery for your face. He claimed you would need grafting. He said it’s nothing much.”
“Wow, this is another major blow. I wish I was informed earlier,” Alex said.
“You don’t expect me to tell you that you will need surgery when you just came around from a coma. Do you?”
“Yeah, I get, but it still feels creepy… Nothing is wrong with my face,” Alex mumbled and put his hands over his face.
“You have to accept it and get it done in time. The earlier the better… You have been dying to see your kids, I think you should see them before the surgery. I will bring them over tomorrow,” Lisa said and walked out on him.
