Chapter 41

When we reach his clothes he takes them in his mouth and moves closer to the trees, there are others closer this time. I didn’t figure that he would be modest but he is. I think it is for my benefit. I think he wants me to know that he is fully committed to me. I like that. It fills me with pride. I don’t want that feeling to go away.
He wraps me in his arms when he comes back out of the woods, fully dressed. “I feel so much better. I’m glad I took you out there. It was spiritual or something.”
“I think it was too.” He holds me tighter and kisses my head.
We are making our way back in silence before I hear Ashley’s voice ring out. “There you are. I was so worried about you.” I can understand her worry, for the last two months we both made sure to know exactly where each other was. Now she is rushing towards me with a man in tow who is carrying Sam. I would assume this is Sam’s father. I was never given a name so that’s how I think of him.
She pulls me into her arms and out of Darius’s. “It’s alright Ashley. I have been just getting Darius better.”
She eyes him with disdain. “So this is the guy that put you in the hospital for three days.” It isn’t a question. She isn’t happy to see me with Darius in any capacity. She didn’t want me to come in the first place.
“Something that I regret greatly. I didn’t want to hurt her.” Darius does sound hurt.
“Anyway. Introduce me to Sam’s father.”
Ashley turns to the guy. “This is Kyle. My mate.”
Kyle comes forward and extends his hand to me. He seems friendly enough. He has light hair and blue eyes. Well built like all wolves. “I am so grateful for you looking out for Ashley and Sam while they were away. I don’t know what I would have done if something happened to them.” His hand encompasses mine and I shake it back.
“We looked out for each other. You have a good family, don’t lose it again.”
“I know it was my fault. I was a bit too domineering.” He looks a little sheepish. “Trust me I learned my lesson. I don’t want to lose my family again.” He smiles over at his son. “Good news is that we were invited to join your pack so you can continue to be friends with Ashley and Sam.”
I smile at that news. I was worried I was going to lose my friend. “Terrific. I thought you would be leaving me soon. I guess we will need to go back and pack up our apartment then.”
Ashley shrugs. “As long as you really want to come back.” She eyes Darius again. She really does not like him.
“Yes, I am returning to the pack. No matter what happens. I am coming back to the pack.” I don’t know who I will be with in the future but I will be back here for good.
Ashley doesn’t mention it again, but I know that she is thinking I should be running again. I can’t. I know that Darius needs me. She didn’t see him when I got here. He looks way better now, but that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t bad off. I won’t let the father of my child die, just because I don’t want to be by his side. I will be by his side until I hear from the goddess or he is better and Markus can do what needs to be done to dissolve the bond between us.
“Well, I need to put in an order for dinner. Plus I have an idea for Darius here. I’ll meet up with you again Ashley.” I took Sam from his father. “You be a good little man.” I kiss his head, before giving him back.
I grab Darius’s hand and pull him behind me. “Your friend doesn’t like me.”
“Well to be fair when we met, I just got out of the hospital after you put me there. She really hasn’t seen another side of you.”
He pulls me back into his arms. “I know I am going to have to spend a lot of time making up for that. I don’t know if I ever can. I am going to try though.”
“Well, that’s a good start.” I grin at him. I think he is going to like the surprise that I want to give him.
We quickly put in his order for the food. I ordered stew for him. I think he doesn’t need soup any more but he still needs the vegetables and the meat will be softer.
