When I looked at him, my eyes instinctively moved to his remarkably smooth hands, and I found myself wondering why I had just noticed it. “Will you cook for our breakfast, or should we just order for a delivery?” I asked for his opinion, but his response was only a blank stare. I snapped my brows together while waiting for his mouth to open.
“Why do you have to do this, Selena? You were living just fine, in a mansion, with several servants. Why do you have to make things complicated?”
“Because I want to,” I said before dismissing him out of my sight.
There were two bedrooms on the second level, but only one was unlocked, and the other was shut and bolted. The locked chamber was meant for my collection of toys and books. Aside from that, it has a love chair which I purchased online. I haven’t tried doing it in the love chair, and I had no idea what convinced me to buy it. As I stared into the love chair in pink colour, someone suddenly entered, and I panicked.
“Nice,” he said.
“You are not allowed here, Lee.”
“I’m already here, so what’s the fuzz? Ah, don’t worry about the chair,” he promised.
“It’s just a normal sitting area,” I informed him in a calm voice while trying not to appear so defensive with my words. However, when he smirked those lips, I knew I messed up. “I was just curious, so I bought it.”
“You don’t have to explain, Selena. Do you want me to clean this one?” He suggested as he checked the chair, then he stared at me while waiting for my response.
“No, thank you. Just get ready because I’ll be going to work in a few minutes,” I reminded him.
“Work? Today’s Saturday,” he answered.
“Over time,” I reasoned out, but the truth was, I forgot about the day. My mind was not in its best state because of my bodyguard, whose eyes kept on haunting me. Whenever he looked at me, I felt like he was about to undress me.
“You don’t need to work hard. Just work smart,” he implied that I never used my brain, and somehow, it was offensive.
I lifted an eyebrow when I looked back at him and narrowed my eyes. “Look, when I say I’m going to work, you don’t have a say in that matter.”
“Ah, so we are back to being an employer and employee, aren’t we?”
“Did it ever change, Lee?” I knew that my inquiry was also offensive, considering what happened between us, but I couldn’t let him go on with his beliefs. The man should be put in his place. “We fucked, I know that, but it doesn’t change a thing,” I told him.
Lee shrugged off his shoulders and replied, “Fair enough, Miss Montes.”
Several hours later, I noticed him making his way down the stairs from his bedroom in his pyjamas. When I decided to stay at home, his input didn’t matter at all. It was so sudden when I felt sleepy, so I deemed it necessary to sleep a little bit, and judging from his attire, he probably did the same. Even though his hair was in disarray, and it appeared as though he ought to have his hair cleaned or combed, he was still a good-looking individual.
While I was confined to the house, I was not oblivious to attractive men. All of our security staff members were attractive, but something special about my bodyguard drew me in. Was it because he was strangely looking at me? Or the things that we did together?
“Tell me about what you’ve been doing while I’ve been asleep,” he said in a calm voice.
For a moment, I stared at the man who appeared to be dreaming. “Wait, are you sleepwalking?” I asked, and when he didn’t respond, I had no choice but to slap his arm. It was hard that he almost fell. Then he sat in one of the chairs and closed his eyes.
Whoa, was he serious?
“Lee!” In the end, I screamed at him, and he got back to his senses and rubbed his eyes while looking at me. I observed him with squinted eyes and waited for him to be fully awake. “Aren’t you acting sloppy as my bodyguard? Fine, I’ll do it myself!” I said in frustration before taking out the cellphone from my pocket and called for delivery.
To calm down my temper, I went to the living room and retrieved one of the lifestyle magazines near the centre table. The cover featured the newlywed Juliana Vera and Ethan Salcedo. I was about to discard it when I realized something important. There was a chance that the article would mention the guest or the remaining eligible bachelor. Perhaps, I should start there because Lee didn’t do his job well. For a few seconds, I stared at the cover, especially the handsome groom who looked so happy beside his new bride. Somehow, the man looked familiar, but it could be because they met once.
Slowly, I flipped the pages, and before I found the whole page covering the wedding, Lee approached me. He appeared well-rested despite sleepwalking to the kitchen. “I am glad you are awake now, Lee,” I said while putting down the magazine beside me.
“Are you so excited about your marriage that you’re reading articles like that?” He inquired while his eyes gazed on the opened pages.
“Why should I be excited about a fixed marriage? I’m checking this magazine because it featured the wedding of Ethan Salcedo! If only you did a good job, I already have the name of my future husband!”
“Ethan Salcedo?”
I snorted at his inquiry because it was apparent that he was not paying attention to what I said earlier. “Yes, Ethan Salcedo and Juliana Vera. I am sure that you have heard about them. After all, they’re one of the wealthiest in the country.”
“Of course, I have heard about them, Selena. May I take a look at the magazine?”
“Don’t bother, Lee. I’ll do it myself,” I refused to hand him the magazine, but he suddenly grabbed it and read the pages. As I watched him, there was something in his eyes that bothered me. “Don’t tell me you had a crush on Juliana Vera, and your heart is broken now,” I teased him, but his expressions darkened even more.
“Juliana is not my type, but I have a soft spot for Alexa,” he replied.
“Alexa?”
“Lance Salcedo’s wife,” he said as if he knew that woman so well.
“Are you referring to the journalist who dragged Lance’s name into a scandal?”
“Yeah, and she became his wife,” he mentioned.
When the tone of his voice changed a little, I wondered if he was in love with Alexa Manrique. Or was it a simple crush? Nevertheless, I wouldn’t say I liked the idea of Lee thinking about another woman. I frowned at him and snatched the magazine, but he held it tightly.
“Let me borrow this one,” he stated, but before he could get away, we heard the doorbell, and he frowned immediately.
“Don’t worry. It’s just dinner,” I informed him, then I gave him the money for payment. When he returned, I couldn’t draw his expression. He was furious as he handed the box of pizza to me. “What’s wrong with you?”
“Pizza for dinner? I thought you don’t eat unhealthy food,” he complained.
“I’ve changed my mind,” I replied, then stuck my tongue towards him.
“Now I know why you wanted to be here. You don’t like your aunt to monitor the food you’re going to eat, right?”
“Wrong. My main reason for coming here is you,” I said, and the reaction on his face was priceless!
