Chapter 10

At first, I thought he would say no, but the darn man just agreed to my wishes. He even grinned widely at the prospect of having my body. Before I went downstairs to take my breakfast, I wondered if I made the right choice of offering it to him.
Was I reckless?
Maybe I was.
Nevertheless, I should give it a go. It was only right to ask Lee for that favour. After all, if things would go awry between us or accidentally make me pregnant, my child would look good for sure.
Wait, should I do it to get pregnant?
Hmmm, the idea seemed absurd, but my unwanted pregnancy would make it easier to cancel the wedding, right? Brilliant idea! I clapped at my own cleverness and grinned widely at the first person I saw when I entered the breakfast room.
“Good morning, Aunt!” I greeted him with an unusual excitement in my voice, and she probably noticed it because she arched her eyebrows at me.
“What’s going on, Selena?” She inquired.
“Oh, nothing unusual. I’m just happy that we have an arrival of ten containers this week,” I replied. “Where’s Daddy?”
“He got an urgent call, and he’s off to Singapore this morning.”
“He just got home, but now he’s gone…again!” Actually, it wasn’t new to me, and I was used to seeing less of him at home. “I think I finally understand why my mother has poor health,” I muttered under my breath.
“Selena!” She yelled at me.
“Why? Did I say something wrong? If I am married, and he’s always busy at work, for sure, I will also get sick, don’t you agree?”
“Enough of it now,” she said while setting the table as usual.
“Aunt, don’t you feel bad about yourself? I mean, you have been taking care of me since I was young, and until now, you are still here. Don’t you have plans to start your own family? You are beautiful and rich,” I paused for a second when I noticed her darkened expression. “Alright, you didn’t like what I said.”
“Are you telling me to get married because you don’t want me to remain in this house? Just say it, and I’ll be happy to pack my things,” she stated in a dramatic tone.
“Come on, Aunt. You don’t have to be melodramatic about what I said. I was only stating a fact,” I reasoned out. “I didn’t mean to offend you or whatever, but I feel bad for you, Aunt Jenny. Don’t you agree that you have wasted your youth to take care of me? I’m already an adult, so you don’t have to worry about me.”
“For me, you are still a child who needs a firm hand to guide you. Without my guidance, I don’t know what will happen.” She said while shaking her head.
“Well, how about convincing my father to cancel my wedding to a stranger?”
“Selena, he knows what is best for you,” she said her opinion, and it was obvious whose side she was on.
“Let’s stop this argument now, Aunt. I want to have my breakfast in peace.”
“Where is Lee?”
“He’s done with his breakfast, and he said to wait for you in the car.”
“I see,” I replied before taking a spoonful of the special congee in front of me. “By the way, Aunt, I’m going to be late tonight.”
“Why?”
“I need to have dinner with the Commissioner tonight,” I replied.
“Since Lee is here to protect you, I am not worried, dear,” she said, and then we ate our breakfast silently.
On my way to work, I chose to be silent and didn’t speak with Lee. Suddenly, his closeness made me uncomfortable, and I wanted to get it done immediately. I was pretending to be busy with my phone when he cleared his throat.
“Are you shy now?”
“Please pretend that you’re alone in the car,” I told him.
“I wish it is the case, Selena,” he said.
“Try to do it.”
“I wish I could, but your fragrance is assaulting my senses now, and I can’t wait for tonight,” he whispered.
“Shut up or else,” I warned him.
“Or else what? You will back out? No, I am sure it is not your style to cancel a deal that was sealed with a kiss,” he continued to tease me.
“Just shut up, will you?”
“Alright,” he agreed.
However, when we reached the office, his presence was suffocating, and I had no idea how to deal with it. His woody fragrance also assaulted my nose, and I’ve imagined his scent while doing my work halfheartedly.
I tried my best to be busy, or extra busy, to forget about the deal, but as the clock ticked by, I was so worried about what would happen later. When an erotic image played inside my head, I screamed in frustration.
“Are you alright?” He was immediately at my side.
“Go and buy me some coffee,” I ordered.
“But I just returned from buying your coffee about ten minutes ago,” he complained.
“It’s cold now, and I want a new cup!”
“Okay,” he agreed, and when he was finally gone, that’s when I was able to breathe normally.
What’s wrong with me? Even if it’s against my principle to cancel a deal without prior notice, I believe it’s only right not to proceed with it. The anticipation of what was about to happen was killing me, and I’ve been on edge since I clocked in.
When he returned with my coffee, I sent him to another errand. The man complained since it wasn’t part of his job, and the office had a clerk who could do it, but I didn’t give him the chance to say no to me.
“Why are you doing this, Selena? Perhaps, are you scared of me now?” He asked.
“Why should I?” I pretended to be brave once again.
“We didn’t discuss this earlier, but do you want to have dinner first before doing it or after?” He asked; then I heard him laugh.
“What’s funny?” I raised my eyebrow while asking him.
“I was only asking about dinner, so you don’t have to be shy about it. Well, you are more adorable while blushing over something menial,” he stated.
Something menial? Spending a night with him was considered menial? How dare of him to think in such a way? However, since I wanted to portray an image of being a sophisticated woman with several experiences with men, I smiled at him and said,” I think it’s time for me to leave now. We can’t be seen entering the hotel together, alright? Let’s order room service for our food,” I added.
“Sure, that will do.”
Two hours later, I was worried that he wouldn’t show up at our agreed time. For the 9th time, I checked my watch and couldn’t help but be nervous about his tardiness. What took him so long? I asked myself several times while pacing back and forth inside the hotel room.
I was about to call him when someone knocked on the door. Of course, I was cautious before opening the door. “You’re late,” I said after letting him in.
“I’m hungry. Can we eat first?”
I shook my head to deny his request. I’ve been anxious since I got into the hotel, and I needed to finish the task as soon as possible. I then took his hand, and we started to go up to the bed.
“Do you want to take a shower first?” I asked when he was hesitant to make a move.
“Yes. Can you give me a minute to clean myself?”
I had no choice but to agree to his request. When he stood up and sauntered towards the bathroom, I became even more nervous. If only he agreed to do it as fast as they could, then it would be over soon. The anticipation was killing her!
While he was in the bathroom, I paced back and forth inside the room, and my eyes kept on glancing at the door. I waited for him to come out, or maybe I was worried that he would vanish before accomplishing the task.
When he finally came out, I gasped for breath upon seeing his naked form. He didn’t even care to wrap himself with a towel! However, I couldn’t complain without appearing to be a hypocrite.
“Shall we turn off the lights?”
“Lights on,” he replied.
