Chapter 22: Special Request

“Grand Alpha King is already here, My Lord. I will call some servants to bring your luggage,” I informed Earl Ephraim the moment we stopped at the work area of the Grand Alpha King. I even called one of the servants and told her to take the Earl’s luggage.
He nodded and turned his head. He looked something behind me and slightly smiled before he returned his gaze back to me. “I shall see you again, Commander Simon.” He tipped his hat off, looking at me before the royal guards opened the door for him.
I blinked so many times when he was out of my sight. He was a very surprising nobleman. He looked so strict and aggressive earlier when he arrived but a while ago was different. All I thought was he could barely smile but I was wrong. He is indeed a charming earl but very keen to his surrounding.
There was a small smile plastered on my lips. I turned my back to leave the premises but stopped when I spotted Claude from a few meters, silently watching me. I saw how his jaw clenched and I could sense a dark aura immersing from him.
Now, what is the problem with this man again?
I started to march away and passed by at him but stopped when he spoke. “Stay away from him.”
I furrowed my eyebrows from his warning. I stayed silent and didn’t say anything. I don’t know why he was blurting some nonsensical comments right now. “You were not there last night,” I speculated without looking at him and glanced straight ahead. I masked my voice with formality and slight hostility.
I heard him sighing. “I was transferred to the day shift, Commander Rachelle because of what happened.”
I was stunned by what I heard. Then turned my head to see he was now looking at me. My heart leaped just by looking at his dark hazel orbs. I remained calm and dejected, giving him a blank expression.
“I already told you that reporting what I did won’t do anything good to you. They already know how I work.” I scoffed.
“It’s not about that.”
I arched my eyebrow, eyeing him. I knew that there was I composed myself when there were five soldiers coming in our direction and made a salute with us. Claude and I just nodded at them. I motioned my head signaling him that we should talk to another place. Not here inside the palace. Claude agreed by following me as we went to one of the verandas.
I leaned on the railings. “Explain,” I commanded. I have no idea what he was talking about. If it was not about that kind of reason, then what is it?
Claude sighed. “It’s a special request from Amelia. She wants to be with me when the sun sets.”
I settled my hand on my side and secretly clenched one of my hands without Claude seeing it. Duchess Amelia again… For something like this special request could mean only one thing. Perhaps something was going on between them.
My wolf was enraging right now when those words came out from Claude. It was absolutely infuriating. I could feel my wolf wanted to overcome me and lunge over Claude.
“I see. I understand.” I decided to leave. It was no reason for me to continue the conversation. I must go back to my post and stop slacking off.
Get something to revenge! I calmed my wolf. Her annoyance against Claude was trying to emerge out with the result of me, clenching my teeth.
“Rachelle, please.”
“Please what?” I spun around, looking at him in disbelief. What was he pleasing? For what? “And mind you call me ‘Commander’.” My cold tone was chilling to hear out, making Claude brushed his hair by using his hand in a frustrated manner.
“About Amelia…” He lowered his gaze then rose to check on me.
I just smiled bitterly. On what sense of bringing up her again? “Why do you feel obligated to explain when there is nothing for you to explain about, Sir Claude?” The tone of mine didn’t falter as I felt my chest tightened.
He stepped forward and was about to reach me but I was quick to distance myself away from him. I had a hunch as to why he was acting this way. I couldn’t voice it out because I knew I have no matters about his business.
“You are my mate. I want to explain and I don’t want you to assume that there is something going on between Amelia and I.”
“You don’t need to explain. I don’t really care.”
I saw how Claude shifted his emotion upon my words. A hurt expression was visible on his eyes.
“I need to go.” I was about to leave when I decided to look at Claude. “Enjoy yourself with Duchess Amelia, Sir Claude.”
I marched away before I could say anything that would hurt both of us. I am on the verge of hurting him for hurting my wolf. I bit my lower lip when I came to a realization.
He’d rather choose her and accept the special request than to continue on the night shift. There was a taste of bitterness smothered on my lips. What was this annoyance that I am feeling right now?
I bit my lower lip and exhaled. Suddenly, I want to lay in my bed and just stay there all day but I chose not to. I should focus more on my work than to think something useless in my life.
I should start seeking answers to the palace library. I need to start investigating on my own while I am waiting for another news letter from Alpha Storm.
Sighing, I walked straight to the pond to cool off my head a little. I should be making patrolling but perhaps I’ll assign another platoon to do that later.
“I need to do something,” I murmured.
“Do something of what?”
I stunned upon hearing that familiar deep voice. I got excited upon hearing it and immediately turned around to see the person I haven’t seen for a year. I just couldn’t believe that I am saying him right now.
He curled up a grin as he crossed his arms over his chest. “Commander Rachelle, long time no see.” That sheepish smile that made my heart leaped.
I chortled and rolled my eyes jokingly. “General Cairo, it’s been a long time.”
