As Shen Qieyi opened the door, she saw Fu Laoye inside. Although she had anticipated him being there, she was still surprised.
“What’s wrong? You can’t recognize this old man any more?” Fu Laoye stood rooted by the door, pretending to be confused with eyebrows raised.
Shen Qieyi suddenly felt sad. She held his hand gently. “Grandpa, How could I?” She then touched his back to nudge him inside gently. “Come in, Grandpa.”
Fu Laoye motioned his bodyguard behind him to stay behind while he entered Shen Qieyi’s house with a smile.
Shen Qieyi had him seated on the couch and went straight to get him warm water.
“Don’t stand there. Sit down. I saw how tired you were when I was still In the car. That’s why I don’t rush to bother you.”
He patted on the seat next to him. He was worried that she would be too exhausted.
It turned out that the car Shen Qieyi saw downstairs was really from the Fu family.
“I’m really sorry to have you to waited for me.”
Although the old man was naturally a bad-tempered person, he was actually very compassionate. Shen Qieyi felt warmed by his action.
The old man sat upright and waved his hand unhappily. “Don’t be too polite with me.”
Then he turned his head and looked around the room slowly. He nodded satisfactorily and said, “It seems that you’ve managed your life well. I don’t think I to have to worry about you.”
Hearing Fu Laoye’s praises, Shen Qieyi somehow felt guilty.
“Grandpa, I’m sorry. I made the decision to get a divorce without talking to you first. I also never went back to see you again. I even had to trouble an elderly like you to come all the way for me. I…”
The old man patted his hand on her knee and made a serious face. “Look at what you’re talking about. Why don’t you allow me to come and see you?”
“Of course not.” Shen Qieyi retorted and looked at him obediently.
Fu Laoye looked at her slimmer-than-before face. Her facial structure was good, and with a little bit of weight loss, she looked radiated. He showed an expression of compassion.
This old man couldn’t help but feel lamented. This blind brat simply couldn’t see what he had missed. He had wasted such a good marriage.
“Grandpa, have you been in good health recently?” Shen Qieyi leaned to a side and gently looked at the old man.
The old man laughed heartily and propped up his cane. “It’s just some minor problems. No worry at all!”
Then he added, “Fortunately, Fu Yao is not with me. It gave me less worry and less anger. I simply want to have fun with myself for now. It’s all good.”
Shen Qieyi looked at the old man in confusion. “Fu Yao, he…”
The old man nodded and felt a sense of regret.
“It seems that you didn’t contact him recently. He went abroad. He initiatively asked for permission to expand overseas market.”
There were many ways she could get information about him. Entertainment gossip was flying everywhere. If she just paid a little attention, she would get her answer. However, Shen Qieyi was not a person who would use this kind of way to know about his matter.
It was no wonder she was the last person to learn of his news. She did feel a little regret. He had drifted so far away from her, like heaven and earth.
Shen Qieyi nodded slightly. “It’s good.”
Fu Laoye couldn’t make out of her expression, he could only sigh. These two kids had hidden their thoughts so deeply that he had no way to persuade them.
The old man held her hand. “I’ve wanted to see you for a long time, but I’ve been hesitating. I’m afraid I that I would disturb your life.”
Shen Qieyi shook her head, wanting to defend herself, but the old man shook his head to stop her and continued.
“The entire Fu family owes you. I, an old man, can only rely on my seniority to represent the entire Fu family to sincerely apologize to you, and at the same time, thank you for your devotion to this family.”
Shen Qieyi’s eyes were filled with tears. He shook his head and uttered in a hoarse voice, “In the end, no one owes anyone anything.”
“Because I loved him, I was willing to do everything. I also want to thank you for taking care of me all the while. I’m lucky to be your family.”
Shen Qieyi covered his face and sobbed, throwing herself into the old man’s arms.
Fu Laoye gently stroked her hair and kept comforting her.
How could he not know the grievances she endured? She lost both her parents. She had gone through a divorce and left her family without any gain. She had been strong in facing those distress and guilt alone.
The old man was afraid to bring up her sadness again, he changed the topic and asked her about her recent. Shen Qieyi talked to him with her red-rimmed eyes.
They chatted without realizing time had passed them by.
The old man got up reluctantly and said, “I’m really happy to see you today.”
Shen Qieyi felt guilty. She helped him into the elevator and sent him downstairs.
The old man rolled down the car window and saw her still standing there, with a joyful expression.
He kept his words inside and waved his hand, gesturing her to come. Shen Qieyi walked hastily to him and hunched down to look at him.
“Don’t forget this old man. If you face any difficulties or sadness, please talk to me. I would be happy to help.”
The old man wanted to ask. If Fu Yao comes back, will there be a chance for them to be together again?
But Shen Qieyi was in a better position now. Why would she still care for his grandson?
Fu Laoye kept quiet.
Shen Qieyi was stunned when she heard that. She felt bitter but happy at the same time. She nodded to him with tears in her eyes.
“If Grandpa wants to see me, just call me. I will definitely go back to see you.”
The old man smiled brightly and reached out to hold her. “Okay, it’s a deal.”
Watching the car drive further away, then disappeared at the corner, she turned around and went upstairs.
The quiet room felt unusually empty tonight. Shen Qieyi turned on all the lights attempting to warm the room.
She sat back on the sofa. Today, she had exhausted all her energy.
Fu Yao had actually gone abroad. In another country that was hundreds of thousands of miles away. That means he had begun to live a new life without her.
Shen Qieyi imagined his face, which was neither sad nor happy. It turned out that fateful night was their last time seeing each other.
However, there was an outcry in her heart. She still wanted to contact him, even if it was the last time.
She picked up her mobile phone on the table and clicked on the text message column. The text message she had yet to send out still sat in the text editor.
She edited the text again and again. She wanted it to sound more natural and casual.
She took a sip of water, took a deep breath, and clicked the send button.
She then threw her phone on the couch. As if something horrible had terrified her. She then ran into the kitchen.
She put some ingredients together for the meal tonight, had them on her stove, and stared at the boiling soup. Shen Qieyi’s mind had gone elsewhere.
She made a sudden turn and walked out of the kitchen. She took her mobile phone and clicked on it. There was nothing.
Just as she wanted to put it back down, she changed her mind, retracted her arm, then put the phone in the pocket of the apron.
The night passed quietly.
Shen Qieyi turned off the light, got inside her quilt, and looked out the window with her big bright eyes.
She turned sideways to look at her phone, grabbed it, clicked on the screen, looked at the time, and quickly glanced at the text message column.
She tossed and turned the whole night, unable to sleep. Finally, she felt tired and closed her eyes to rest. She soon fell deeply asleep.
At midnight, Shen Qieyi was dazed as she awoke. Her hand grabbed the phone, and the bright screen pricked her eyes.
With her half-squinted eyes, she clicked open the message.
Her message was still sitting quietly in the column. “Fu Yao, this is Shen Qieyi. Regarding Xie Ran and Mo Yirou, I have to thank you for your help. Please take care of yourself abroad. Wish you well in everything.”
Still no reply below her message.
Shen Qieyi’s thought was swirling in her mind. She put down her phone and forced herself to forget it.
