At the reception…
The doctor had already walked to his office, leaving every other person at the reception. As they all sat, waiting to see if Crystabel would come out from Mr. Evidence’s hospital room, the clock ticked continuously with no hesitation. They waited and waited, Crystabel hadn’t come out yet. They all wondered what was going on between Evidence and Crystabel alone in that room at that moment.
Rose, who sat quietly leaning her back on the wall, looking downwards with no words coming out from her mouth, never stopped thinking about Mr. Evidence and the mistake she made while she was at Crystabel’s home.
Annabel and Mara was still seated as they tried looking at Rose’s face to see if she had stopped crying, only for them to watch her bring her phone from her little fancy purse as she went through her phone gallery, searched through and found one of the pictures she took with Mr. Evidence as she clicked on it, making the picture appear on her phone screen. She couldn’t stop looking at it. She looked at it as she remembered all those moments she had with Mr. Evidence. She could remember each and everything that had happened between herself and Mr. Evidence so far, especially that day they took the picture together. It was something she couldn’t forget. Those memories were still fresh.
Few days ago, she was happy with the man she loves and within the blink of an eye, everything she secured within a long period crumbled within seconds. Rose, still holding her phone and looking at the picture she took with Mr. Evidence a few days ago and remembering how happy they were before everything changed suddenly, those tears that dried up some minutes ago started threatening to drop. It was something she couldn’t control even when she tried to.
As Annabel and Mara sat next to their friend, they quickly noticed that Rose had started crying again due to how a drop of tears had dropped from Rose’s face and touching her phone screen.
“You are crying again. Oh, sister, please don’t do this.”
Said Annabel as she slightly moved closer to Rose, using her hand to caress Rose’s hair and Mara, seeing the scene before her, felt pity for her friend. She started imagining how she would feel if this should happen to Daniel. No! It was something she knew she wasn’t and won’t be able to handle even if she tries hard.
She looked at Rose’s crying face and moved closer again. Using her palm to wipe the tears that were flowing non stop and also, the rest of them didn’t know what to do. They concluded that if they should also walk towards Rose and try to stop her from crying, they felt it wouldn’t make any difference but instead, it would intensify her cry and that was why they didn’t bother to make such a move. They just sat down, not knowing what to do as they hoped and wished everything was going to be alright soon.
“What is the time now?”
Daniel asked David as David replied.
“It’s 9:00pm now.”
“9:00pm?” Mr. Evidence’s brother asked and because he wasn’t expecting any answer from anyone, he spoke again.
“We have been sitting here for over 1:30 minutes now and no news yet.” He said and immediately, David replied.
“I’m sure she will be out soon and if she doesn’t, we will have to find out from the doctor if we should leave and come back the next day or not.”
David said, and Rose, hearing David’s statement, immediately interrupted David and spoke with a cracked voice that sounded like a whisper as she couldn’t control her emotions.
“Leave and come back the next day?” Rose asked and paused. She couldn’t speak any more, she just couldn’t speak as she remembered that her friend was inside that room alone with the love of her life.
The pain that gripped her heart was unbearable.
She wanted to speak but it was so difficult to do so but then, she summoned the courage she had lost. She swallowed her own saliva and used her palm to wipe her tears and took a deep breath of relief before she continued her statement. She spoke as she tried so hard to control herself not to cry while speaking.
“Leave and come back the next day, you say? What happens then? A girl is inside the same room with the only man I love and heaven knows what’s going on there right now. She is inside that room.”
She said and pointed towards the direction Mr. Evidence’s room was located as she continued talking.
“She is inside that room alone with him and you want me to leave and come back the next day? Well, I don’t think there is any need for me to talk. I’m going in there, right now.”
Rose loudly said as she forcefully stood from her seat. still holding her phone in her hands, she tried taking a step forward but a force gripped her hands. Those were Annabel and Mara’s hands. The both girls stopped her by holding her by the hand and never wanting to let go. They held her back because they knew that man inside that hospital room wasn’t the Mr. Evidence she once knew.
After they witnessed how he pushed her to the floor, they knew he was a stranger to her now. They needed to keep her far from him to avoid that cruel man do something awful to her again and that was what Annabel was unable to stand and watch her friend being treated unfairly by the man she loves. No! Annabel wasn’t ready to witness that.
