“Are you expecting me to apologize to you? Have you lost your mind, you crippled imbecile?”
George rubbed his hands on his forehead as Judith hurled different words at his mother, Patricia who just stared at her.
He despised this woman a lot. No, the word was ‘hate’. He hated her….
Ever since she got arrested five days ago, he had been replaying different scenes from the past in his mind, feeling different emotions….
All the nasty things this woman had done to his mother for years and gotten away with. All the times she had made his mother cry behind closed doors. For the moments when she rubbed it in his face as a little boy that he meant nothing to his father and her son, James was loved more than him. For the moments when she never failed to remind his mother that she was an unloved wife….
And many other things he didn’t want to remember right now.
He couldn’t for the life of him understand how his mother accepted her into the villa in the first place! That was all the push she needed to start misbehaving and disrespecting his mother.
To think that she even tried to kill him. It was her stupid audacity that irritated him so much….
And her greed too!
How do you get so obsessed with someone as their personal maid that you aim for seducing her husband and getting pregnant….
And not just that, you are so greedy for her lifestyle that you force your way into her home by taking advantage of the husband you seduced and that is still not enough….
Now, you want her position, her money, her fame and her properties. And you worked for none of these things, yet you want it all!
“Watch your mouth, Judith?” Patricia warned.
Judith scoffed. Did this place look like the villa where she gave the orders and people listened? “And what will you do about that?”
Patricia laughed, rubbing her palms together. “I won’t do anything. There will be no need to do anything. You’ll be here for more than twenty years anyway”
Judith glared at her, her jaw clenching hard at the reality she had not gotten used to.
Patricia continued talking, looking at her “It still feels new, right? Cause it’s just been five days. That’s why you don’t understand it yet. This is just the beginning of the next twenty five years, Judith. I want to see how long you can keep your mouth running. I don’t have your time anymore, that era of the both of us exchanging words with each other has passed”
Judith clenched her first tight. If she had a knife right now, she would rush over and stab her to death for ruining her life this way! But she had no knife, obviously and there was a transparent shield between them and her.
Patricia narrowed her eyes at her, watching her through the transparent shield. “You still want to harm me even in your position? You don’t even feel remorseful for anything you have done so far. You are the reason for these scars on George’s face. He was in so much pain for a whole year after the accident and you acted as if you knew nothing about it. You can never change, Judith. You deserve whatever comes your way!”
Judith sneered and looked away “Who cares?!”
George sighed and faced her. “James must be in a lot of emotional pain knowing that a crazy woman turned out to be his mother. I wonder how he had put up with your madness for years!”
“He’s not my son!…” Judith replied firmly. “… What am I doing with a son who cannot follow the path his parents have set for him?”
Patricia waved her off “That’s between the both of you. None of it is my business. It’s nice to see you behind bars, you will finally learn that you shouldn’t want another person’s life so badly that you lose your own self!”
“You ruined everything. It’s all your fault!” Judith yelled at her. “You think you’re so great or whatever?”
“I knew you would talk just like him…” Patricia laughed “… the love of your life told me to send his greetings. He played the victim card just like you. Both of you were really made for each other”
Judith glared at her when she mentioned Morris. “It must have hurt to never receive the love of –”
“Oh, shut up!” Patricia cut her off “Isn’t that old news already? Are you not tired of repeating the same thing? Since you have all of his love, make sure you enjoy all of it in prison for the next twenty five years!”

George moved his gaze away from the darkening sky over to the document in front of him. What a day today has been!
After the uneventful visit to the unrepentant prisoners, he had driven Arthur Reeves and his mother back to their various destinations….
And now, he was in his sitting room with Tony who was looking through some documents. Rachel had gone to spend the night with her family.
Tony glanced up from the paper he was reading and looked at George “Are you sure about this? What suddenly came over you?”
George sighed. “I really don’t know why I have been thinking like this but it’s for the best”
George picked up the document with the title “DIVORCE” and smiled sadly…..
For about a month now, he had been feeling really down and he couldn’t even figure out the main reason. It only became worse the moment he saw Arthur Reeves when he was finally released.
The lines around his forehead, his grating hair from regret and pain, his sunken cheeks from probably starvation or just sadness…..
It was still fresh in his eyes. Maybe he was overthinking things but it didn’t make any sense for him and Rachel to continue their marriage.
Marriage? Should he even call it that?
Everybody knew that the main reason she married him in the first place was to get justice for her father. She has already gotten what she wanted, which was fine by him.
Besides, the end of this week would bring an end to the marriage contract between them….
He didn’t want to be the one to say it but he believed Rachel deserved better. Their past was too messed up, the damages his father had caused to their family could not be repaired so easily.
He had been watching Arthur Reeves for some time and he could see that he was not comfortable with their family just yet. He only honored their invitation today because he also wanted to see Morris face to face.
If not, he wouldn’t want anything to do with their family.
That was very understandable. If he was Arthur Reeves, he would not want to have anything to do with his family too.
George could bet that Arthur Reeves had thought about telling Rachel to cut ties with him and his family but he was just holding back, trying to be reasonable.
George was willing to make things easier for him and his daughter, Rachel. Even her mother, Amanda, didn’t really like his family…..
Amanda Reeves believed they brought bad luck to her family. She didn’t have to say the words to him, he had noticed it in her eyes on the occasions they had met.
Even though he broke his heart, even though he would never be himself again, he would let Rachel go. It was for the best.
It didn’t matter what excuse she came up with to stay with him, he would put an end to their marriage. She deserved better….
He hoped she would meet someone later on who would be kind to her and treat her well, someone who her parents would accept completely. Someone…
“George? Are you crying?” Tony asked, a weird expression on his face
George placed his palm on his face and felt the tears. He sniffed and wiped it off. He didn’t even realize he was crying.
This was hard for him. It was hard to let her go just like that….
“You know…it’s clear you don’t want your marriage to end. I am sure she doesn’t want that too, why don’t you go on just like before?” Tony asked, confused by the whole topic of “divorce”.
Everything seemed to be falling apart in this house.
George cleared his throat “It’s not as easy as you think. If it was, I wouldn’t be doing this”
Tony nodded “If you say so…”
George pointed at the document on his table “Is the final document? Has the lawyer verified it as valid?”
“Yes and yes. All that is left is for both of you to sign on it”
Rachel will be back here from her father’s place tomorrow morning. That would be a good time to bring this up. He wondered what she even saw in him that made her want to stay in the first place. Couldn’t she see what her parents were seeing? Didn’t she feel that his family brought bad luck to her family?
Anyway, it didn’t matter right now. Their marriage had come to an end and he would have to find a way to survive after she leaves.
“Tony?”
“What’s up?” Tony asked
“Make sure my mother doesn’t hear about this. Not even by mistake”
Tony raised an eyebrow “Why not? If you’ve made up your mind, she can’t do anything about it. You should be worried about Rachel instead”
“What do you mean?” George asked
“We both know she is not going to take this news well.”
