George glanced up at the huge round clock hanging on the white wall of the hospital room. His vision was blurry as his eyes welled up with fresh tears.
He had never driven at full speed like the way he did this night. He didn’t even care about driving rules and all of that.
His mother couldn’t just die like that, after everything she had been through. He could not allow her to lose again to the man he should be calling ‘father’.
11:15pm…
How did a simple day that was all about him attending a meeting turn into this?
He moved his gaze over to his mother as she laid on the bed, her head propped on a pillow. His left hand held tightly to her right hand and he whimpered, trying to hold back the rush of tears.
After a while, he sighed in relief as he watched the final drop of blood flow through the drip sack that was connected to a vein on his mother’s wrist….
She had lost a large quantity of blood which almost put her in a critical position. Luckily, he had a similar blood type with her. He was able to transfer some blood to her, he only hoped that his mother responded to the treatment she was receiving.
He didn’t even have to ask her any question. He already knew the person who tried to kill her. Morris…..
Never in his life would he have imagined this kind of thing happening. That his father would try to kill his mother….
Why? All because of a company.
He couldn’t for the life of him figure out what exactly his mother saw in his father from the beginning to hand over her company to him.
Instead of putting the company in his name, she should have remained the owner and given him a position like ‘managing director’ or something like that….
Doing that would have prevented a lot of nonsense from happening.
George sighed. No wonder her phone call had been strange, she already knew that she was being chased to be harmed or killed.
The door opened and a nurse walked in and greeted George. She checked Mrs Patricia heart rate and adjusted her oxygen mask. She unhooked the drip syringe from her hand since the blood transfusion was over.
Before heading out, she muttered to George “The doctor will be with you shortly”
As she left and shut the door, George wondered for a moment why his mother’s final words before she fainted was about him taking her to a far away hospital….
Did it mean that if Morris heard she wasn’t dead yet, he would try to find her by all means to kill her properly this time.
So the farther she was away from the villa, the better.
But this won’t be enough for long. Morris had the money to search for her around the country if he wanted to.
George made a mental note, reminding himself to take his mother to a different, secret house when she regained her consciousness. He would keep her far away from the murderer until the court case was over.
As he was still pondering on his thoughts, the doctor walked in and checked all the vital parts of Mrs Patricia.
George rose to his feet. “How is she doing?”
“The surgery went well, we were able to remove the bullet. And also, your blood helped to replace a good amount of the blood she lost. So, she is doing fine so far”
“Okay. Is there any other thing I need to know?”
“She is still unconscious right now. After a while, by tomorrow morning precisely, I am going to run a test to see the state of the wound the bullet gave her and if it caused any serious negative impact. I hope you understand?”
“I do. Please let me know the results as soon as possible. I don’t want her to stay here for a long time.”
George noticed the doctor was at him. He asked “Is there something on my face? Why are you looking at me?”
“You don’t plan to stay here watching her overnight, right? You look like you’re about to collapse anytime soon.” The doctor replied “Go home, rest and come back tomorrow. I’ll keep my eyes on her. If you refuse, there’s a high chance that you’ll be my second patient tomorrow”
George chuckled. The doctor was right. He was absolutely exhausted and worn out, he didn’t even feel like eating dinner. Closing his eyes to take a long nap would be far better right now.
“You’re right. I’ll head back now. Please take care of her”
George took one look at his slightly pale, unconscious mother before turning to walk out from the hospital.
He hoped that Patricia would regain her consciousness soon. He needed her to be alive and healthy, not dead.
~~~~~*~~~~~
Morris paced around his library impatiently, his forehead creasing into a frown. What if things didn’t go well? What if Patricia survived what he had planned for her?
Then all his efforts would be a waste and he would even end up worse than he started. That must not happen!
Why did he take so long to act on this? For a long time, Judith had been telling him to kill Patricia quickly and easily before she tried something that he couldn’t control.
He had waited for so long and now, things had gotten messy……
Messy and complex.
He couldn’t wait anymore. There was no need to hold back James CEO ceremony for a whole month. Anything he wanted to do, he had to do it quickly.
Judith sat on a chair, fixing her nails. “Can you just sit? Pacing around and overthinking won’t do anything for you except give you a high blood pressure.”
“How can you remain calm at this moment? Don’t you know how critical things are? It’s 8pm and there is no feedback yet.”
Judith sighed. “You already called Raymond and he said when he is done, he will let you know. Just relax, when he is done, Raymond will bring you the feedback you want to hear. No rush.”
“Besides, I have been thinking about Jane’s ceremony. I think it will be better if we push it forward. Next week should be fine. I ne-”
“Oh my…” Judith squeaked in delight “…. that’s wonderful. The faster, the better. I can’t wait”
“We only need a few of our trusted board members to agree to our plan”
“Don’t worry about that. We already have most of them on our side. Everything will go smoothly, I am sure of it”
The door handle clicked and Raymond stepped in, his shoes wet from the rain that just stopped.
Morris demanded instantly. “How did it go? Tell me everything”
“Yes sir. The guy I sent was able to track her down to one of her favorite restaurants. Though he wasn’t able to do anything at first since she was already inside the restaurant, talking to the lawyer.” Raymond answered.
“So…?” Morris asked impatiently.
“He stated that at a point, Mrs Patricia knew she was being followed and quickly entered a cab. But when she realized he was catching up with her, she got down from the cab and ran at full speed but he remembered that you stated she must not return here today, so he shot her an-”
“Really?…” Judith smirked “… I hope he aimed correctly, no bullet must be wasted.”
“Yes, according to him, the bullet hit her and she fell to the grou-”
“So where’s her body? What did he do with it?” Judith chipped in before Morris could say anything.
As they talked on, none of them realized that the door to the library was slightly open and James Scott was eavesdropping. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. His mouth fell open when he heard the details of their conversation. He had been living with monsters all along….
“Well…” Raymond paused. “…. unfortunately, George witnessed the accident a-”
“What??!!”
“What did you just say? George?!!”
“Yes, forgive me…” Raymond said, bowing his head. “… He didn’t expect that the car behind the lane where Mrs Patricia was running belonged to George s-”
“So how did he find out it was George?” Morris asked, fuming angrily.
“George witnessed his mother getting shot and rushed out of the car to her side. That was how he knew”
“I hope George did not see his face, not even his nose? Huh?” Morris asked
“Not at all sir. He was very far from them and it was quite dark and blurry due to the rain.”
“That’s great” Judith held her chest and sighed in relief. “But are you sure she is dead? She must not survive this”
“I believe she is. He aimed the bullet at her chest area, she would have lost a huge amount of blood before they arrived at a hospital” Raymond answered.
“Hmm…. George took her to the hospital? Are you sure she won’t survive this?” Morris asked
“I doubt she will survive,” Judith chuckled. “She is not that strong health-wise. I know that about her”
“Alright. You can leave now. Let’s see how things go.” Morris waved Raymond off.
Not able to contain the gravity of what he just heard plus the fact that he had been suspecting them for months now, James barged into the library in rage.
“Can the both of you explain what I just heard right now?!”
