Morris rose up from his chair and stared at Patricia who stood quietly with an unreadable expression on her face.
“What are you trying to say?” He asked, hoping he was just overthinking and she didn’t really mean anything she just said.
Patricia scoffed “Are you trying to check if I really know what I’m saying or if I’m just pulling your legs? You want to dig deeper, right?”
Morris looked away and muttered, getting irritated. “If you don’t have anything important to say, you can leave. Don’t mess with my plans for today, I have a lot on my plate…”
“You finally got what you wanted, right? My company? You must be so proud of yourself, Morris Scott”
Raymond, who had been standing still all this time, glanced at her for a moment before looking away.
Morris chuckled and waved her off “You can’t be serious. What are you talking about?”
Patricia paced slowly in front of where Morris stood, both of her hands resting behind her back.
“You see, the more I think about it, your plan so far has been amazing. You knew I was naive but rich while you were smart but poor. And to make things worse, I was blindly in love with you, so what did you do?”
Patricia paused, waiting silently for a moment. The library was dead quiet except for Morris’s heartbeat that seemed to be hearing faster than normal. He had never seen Patricia like this before. He rubbed his slightly sweaty palms against his trouser and waited to hear what she would say next.
“You heard I would be inheriting a multimillion dollar company and your ears came alive. You knew I was foolish, you knew I would do anything for you. But most importantly, you knew that you felt no love for me but instead of stepping away from me, you pushed me on, deceiving me, telling me all the things I wanted to hear back then. You knew I was foolish and you took advantage of it…”
Patricia laughed at the shocked expression on Morris’s face. She turned away, continued pacing around and rambled on.
“In the eyes of other people, they would think we married for love. Who would have thought it was just because you wanted my company in your hands? You knew I wouldn’t give it to you easily, so you made sure I got pregnant within the first year of our marriage and even before baby George could talk, you were already by my side, begging for the company you’ve always wanted…”
“Patricia, wh…” Morris interrupted
“Just shut it, will you?” Patricia yelled at him, her breathing getting harsher as the seconds ticked by. “You have been the one talking for years and I have been listening. It is time for you to keep shut and listen to me! I haven’t even started yet.”
Morris staggered backwards a bit at ‘her tone’. He had never seen this side of her before. He cast a glance at his bodyguard who was also staring at him before returning his gaze back to Patricia who was still glaring at him.
“As I was saying…” Patricia continued “… in order to convince me to hand it over to you, you acted like you were trying to grow the company for George to have a better life as he grew up. You knew that using my newborn baby to manipulate me was going to work and it did, just the way you planned. Back then, I thought you were so desperate for the company to grow because you really cared about our family, but to think…” Patricia paused and laughed.
Morris was getting impatient with all her rambling. If she had really discovered any of his dirty plans, she should just get straight to the point so he would know the next step to take from there.
“Patricia…” he muttered coldly “… get straight to the point, will you?”
Patricia, who was in a fit of anger suddenly yelled. “You think I don’t know that you are the one who fabricated that lie against Arthur Reeves and threw him in jail?!”
Morris and Raymond turned sharply to look at her, their eyes widening in shock. Morris gasped in surprise. All along, he had been thinking that George or Rachel would be the ‘inside hacker’ he was looking for. Who would have thought it was Patricia all along? What else did she know? How was he going to handle this?
Blinking and averting his gaze away from her face, he replied “I have no idea what you’re talking about. If you have nothing important to say then leave immediately.”
Patricia laughed. She clearly remembered every single thing, every single secret of his that she had discovered and heard through the voice recorder she planted in his library. If he really thought she had ‘nothing else’ to say, he was just dreaming.
She lifted her hands and pointed a finger at Raymond, still looking at Morris “That’s all you have to say? You think I don’t know that he is the one you used to carry out that dirty plan against Arthur Reeves”
Patricia paced around slowly, tilting her head to the side. “How did you go about it? You bribed a police officer to arrest him quickly for ten years without investigating the case properly. And not just that, you bribed a bank official to ‘fake’ all those transaction details containing his name, so it would all look real. Was it Preston bank or what was the name again?”
Morris felt a part of his soul leave his body instantly. He gripped the head of his chair, holding it tightly, afraid he would fall from shock. How did she know all that? Where did she hear it from?
“Where on earth did you hear that from? How dare you say such nonsense lies against me?!”
Patricia scoffed, irritated by his constant denial “Just continue pretending you don’t get what I’m saying if it makes you feel better. But I can assure you of one thing – I am not going to overlook what you did to Arthur Reeves and what you did to me. I will not forget the fact that you actually married me so you could get my company and you still had the guts to impregnate my own maid and bring her into this villa. I will not overlook your actions this time…”
Morris fumed angrily and hit the table with his fists like a baby throwing tantrums. “If your parents had done better, none of this would have happened. It’s all their fault! You can take the blame for them. Everything I did was to vindicate myself and show everyone, including your disgusting parents how capable I am at the end of the day .”
“Watch your mouth, Morris!” Patricia warned him.
“What do you want to do about that? Didn’t I say the truth? Your parents were the meanest, vilest creatures ever and you should be paying for their crimes since you came from them!”
“Now, you’re talking. You’re revealing yourself instead of denying everything. I like that” Patricia laughed. “So, the best way to show my mean parents how ‘capable’ you are is by taking over a company they actually grew and handed over to me, right? Does that make sense to you?”
“It does not matter if they gave it to you or not. You had nothing to show for it. I was the one that took this company from a hidden company to what it is today. It was all because of me and there is nothing you can do about it!”
“It was never you, Morris. It was Arthur Reeves. He was the one who made this company what it is today. You had a trial period of nine years. Nine whole years! You failed. Arthur changed everything and what did you do out of jealousy? You ruined him! You ruined everything!”
Morris gritted his teeth, his face reddening from anger and jealousy. “Get out! Get out of here right now! This should be the last time you bring such stupid accusations against me!”
Patricia held her purse tightly and glared at him. He was absolutely disgusting. What exactly did she see in him before? She must have lost her mind back then. “Morris, you are so pathetic. I won’t let you go scot-free no matter what.”
“Who cares? Get out!”
As she turned to leave his library, Patricia muttered “You must really think I don’t know who was behind George’s car accident.”
As the door to his library banged shut, Morris leaned against the wooden table, his breath coming in a rush. His forehead was covered with a new layer of sweat and his anger boiled.
He hated that woman! Her family! Everything about her. Ugh! He wasn’t even sure how he lasted this long with her. Now that he had come a long way after years of laying low, she really thought he would just sit back and allow her to ruin his plan. What a joke!
How exactly did she know all these things in detail? Was she the one behind that detective lady? Was she sponsoring her? How did she also know that Judith was the one behind George’s accident? He knew that Patricia would never allow Judith to go scot-free. She was ready to ruin everything….
“Raymond!”
“At your service, sir!”
“You have already witnessed everything. I don’t have to explain anything to you again.” Morris muttered, completely exhausted from what just happened. “I want you to keep a close eye on Patricia from now on. Where she is going, what she is up to…. everything!!”
“Yes sir!”
“Track every single thing she does, including her car, monitor everything closely and report to me immediately. I need to know her next move before she acts on it. Do you understand?!”
“Yes, sir! I won’t fail you this time”
“You better don’t!”
