“So, are you trying to say that this evidence I have is not enough to open a court case against him?” Sophia asked the middle-aged female lawyer sitting in front of her, a small round table between them.
She cast a short glance around the large restaurant where she was. She had purposely picked a table towards the hidden part of the restaurant so she wouldn’t easily be noticed. As she turned her eyes back to her lawyer friend, she took note of the two strange looking muscular men sitting about six tables away from her.
She had noticed them ever since they walked in, it was almost like they had been following her, stalking her. Sophia wasn’t sure yet but her guts told her she was on to something.
“That’s not what I mean, Sophia” the lawyer answered “I have heard about Morris Scott and I know the type of person he is. I have an affiliation with another lawyer who has handled some law cases for his company. I can tell you one thing; he is a ruthless man, ready to fight for what he wants by all means…”
“So you are saying I need to get more evidence to be able to hold him down?”
“Yes. He might still be acting like he isn’t doing anything yet but I can assure you that all it takes is for him to bribe over the police station you plan to use and even the other lawyers involved. You need to get extra evidences, something that he wouldn’t be able to bribe himself out of. That’s what I mean”
Sophia sighed. She understood what the woman opposite her was saying. She had handled cases like this where the rich people involved always found a way to ‘pay’ their way through to get their freedom. How did she forget that there would always be those people who would do anything for more money?
Through the side of her eyes, she noticed one of the men pointing at her and whispering to the other guy. She tried stealing a glance to check if they were familiar, if she knew them, but she didn’t want to make it obvious that she was aware of them.
“So what kind of evidence do you believe is strong enough for a court case to go smoothly?” Sophia asked, choosing to focus on what was important.
Rachel wouldn’t be happy to discover that there was no way to bring Morris Scott down…
“I remember you said something about feeling like George’s accident was not normal. If you can find evidence about that, it will be enough. Of course, that’s if Morris is the one behind the accident. Do you understand?”
“I do. Thank you for coming out today. I really appreciate it.”
After they were done talking, they shook hands and Sophia turned around to leave the restaurant after the lawyer had gone.
As she walked out, she noticed that the two guys at the end of the restaurant were watching her movement. Clearly, she was their target! She was sure of it. She wondered what they were up to this time…
This was not the first time she was being followed or tracked down by a group of unidentified people. You could as well say that this was the ‘normal’ life of a detective.
She walked towards her car that was parked in front of the restaurant’s gate, got in and turned on the engine….
Right before her two eyes, she watched as both men rushed out of the restaurant and hurried over to their black car. Without blinking, Sophia reversed her car and zoomed off, making sure she quickly joined the ‘main’ road where a lot of cars were passing.
Her life was in danger. They were obviously after her. Through the rearview mirror, she noticed the black car pull up on the main road. She was within sight now.
Shit! They had caught up with her, she had to hurry. But she didn’t want to make it obvious that she knew they were after her. Sophia racked her brain, thinking hard about what to do….
If it continued this way, they would follow her until the ends of the earth. She had to find a way to get out of their sight quickly and make them lose sight of her.
A plan came to her mind…
This was going to be risky, very risky.
Sophia watched as the road became free as the number of cars reduced. She turned the steering wheel and zoomed ahead just a little. She stopped her car by the side of the road and turned off the ignition.
The black car parked about two meters away behind her car at the other opposite side of the road. They were clearly watching her, waiting to see her next move.
Sophia opened the door of her car and put one of her feet on the ground, pretending like she was coming out of the car….
She made sure to leave her key in the ignition hole. She opened her car door wider….
The road was almost empty now as the sky was getting darker. Both men took the hint to quickly catch her. They stepped out of their black car and rushed over to where her car was parked.
That was what Sophia wanted. As they were still running towards her car, Sophia quickly shut her car door, turned on her car ignition and zoomed off.
She zoomed so fast she was sure if there was a police officer nearby, she would be arrested.
Before the two men could turn back and start their car, Sophia was already out of sight.

“Are you serious about this? You were almost kidnapped?” Rachel asked in shock. She already knew that Morris would take action against Sophia but she didn’t know it would be so soon.
“Yes. I managed to escape, that was very risky of me. If they had caught up with me before I could zoom off, that would be the end” Sophia answered through the phone.
Rachel shivered slightly. This was getting scary, she remembered that Mr Anderson stated that Morris was looking for the people who hacked the file. Sophia was in danger and needed to protect herself.
“You’re so quiet. Is something wrong?” Sophia asked.
“I just remembered a conversation I held with someone here. He stated that Morris finally discovered that the database of his company was hacked. It seems he suspects you…”
Sophia gasped “I understand now. I had a strong feeling that he was the one behind those two guys but I wasn’t sure.”
“I thought you cleared off your tracks when you hacked the file. How were they able to trace that you hacked it from outside here?’
“It seems I didn’t clean things off properly. That was very careless of me but it’s too late to fix that right now.” Sophia muttered.
“Now that I think about it, what do you think Morris would have done if he had captured you successfully?”
Sophia laughed “You know…. normal stuff. Just like what you see in the movies. It’s either he threatens me to hand over the evidence to him and tries to shut me up with money or he probably kills me.”
“What? Kills you? And you’re laughing?” Rachel yelled through the phone “Don’t you value your life?”
“Of course I do. I just find it funny because I have been through this before. Besides, Morris deciding to come after me also shows he is getting uncomfortable, he is nervous and all over the place. That’s good to see.”
Rachel groaned in frustration. “I get what you mean. But the thing is you have to hide away for some time. I mean it, Sophia! Don’t even come to my other house to see my mother, don’t come anywhere close to me for now. He probably has people all around watching you. I don’t know how you are going to handle your Job. If he gets to know where you work, that’s the end”
“About my work, don’t worry about that. I’m preparing to take a leave until this case with Morris is sorted out.”
“Ugh, thank goodness. You’re making me so worried these days. Take care of yourself, okay?”
“Of course, I will” Sophia replied “I feel so exhausted right now, I need to nap for the night. I’ll talk to you later. Okay?”
“Alright. Goodnight, Sophia”
