Days passed by slowly for a woman with a broken heart. Until the day came that she feared. Her monthly period did not reach her and she already knew what that meant.
Every morning he is nauseous and saliva comes out. After all, he could easily get dizzy, especially when the weather was hot. And he doesn’t just eat anything anymore. He doesn’t like rice because he doesn’t like the smell of it. She craved for Jollibee chicken joy but she couldn’t eat it because they were in the province and couldn’t afford delivery. He also becomes emotional and moody. She feels dizzy when she smells perfume. And worst of all he turned pale and thin.
For the meantime, she first hid from everyone that she was pregnant and forced her to negotiate with the old man while her husband did not return home. Rachel thought she needed the elder’s approval so they could all get along at home.
“Granny,” he whispered to the old man as they reached out on the terrace to ventilate.
“Don’t call me that. I will never accept you for Brett!”
“You see, I just want to make peace with you so we don’t have any problems here at home.” Rachel explained.
“Really? If you don’t want us to get in trouble here then leave!”
Because of what she heard, Rachel could no longer control herself. It’s too much. “Even if you still don’t like me, the fact that I’m Brett’s wife won’t change.”
“You’re rude you really are a woman!”
Her gums were almost knocked out when the old woman’s hand landed on them. She wanted to retaliate, but she couldn’t because he wasn’t that naughty. “Next time you slap me, you’ll regret it.” she said before leaving the old woman on the terrace.
It rained hard that night. According to the news, there was an LPA, and it was that night when Brett came home, with another woman. She went to talk to him. She couldn’t bear to let him ignore her anymore!
“Rachel, won’t you even make an effort to reconcile with Granny?” he asked without preamble. “I want the truth now, was there any truth to her claims?” Brett noticed that Rachel looked thinner and pale. He wanted to greet her but his grandmother’s accusations could not be ignored.
“If there’s anyone who knows your grandmother better, it’s you.” She was tired of defending himself to Brett.
“But you’re the one I’m asking Rachel, if everything he’s accusing you of is true?” It was hard for him to mediate between the two women.
“If I say your grandmother is lying, will you believe me?” The man did not answer her. “Did I mention, this conversation is pointless Brett, when it comes to your grandmother? But wait, why aren’t we talking about Bettina?”
“And what has Bettina got to do with this?”
“Do you really have to bring your mistress here? I told you to be discreet on your affairs!” she shouted at him.
“Discreet, big word isn’t it? Is that why I didn’t find out right away that you conspired with your lawyer?” Brett saw that the woman was getting even paler and even though she didn’t speak, he confirmed the truth. She tricked him into marrying her! Did the woman think that she would be fooled for the rest of her life? “You manipulated me into marrying you, you scheming bitch!”
“Brett, I’m sorry. I only did that because I love you so much. I don’t want to lose you to me!” She reasoned out but her husband was not shaken by what she said. Brett, with all his scowls and heated looks, had never looked at her with such violent loathing.
“Alright, it’s my fault. I planned to trap you and I did, now both of us are paying for my mistakes. But Brett, we’re already married and we just have to make the best of it.” Rachel’s statement.
“Really?” Brett couldn’t believe what Rachel said. How could she be so proud of her mistake?
Rachel felt that Brett’s resolution was slowly giving way and that was what gave her the courage to embrace it. He flinched, and she sighed softly as she looked up at him. “Can we … can we just forget the past and start again … tonight?”
His jaw went taut and his body stiffened. He grabbed her two shoulders and pushed Rachel away. “The very touch of you, disgusts me, Rachel. Just leave me, please!”
Rachel admitted that she had made a mistake so she apologized to the man. Isn’t that enough? She was pregnant, but she couldn’t tell her husband because she was mad at him. “I can’t do this anymore,” she said to Brett and he ran down the stairs. But she was blinded by tears and lost her footing. He no longer felt pain in the body when he fell on his chin.
When Rachel woke up she was already in the hospital and when she remembered what had happened, she immediately felt her stomach. “My baby,” she said. When the doctor approached her, she begged him not to tell Brett about her pregnancy. “He’s thinking a lot right now and I don’t want to add to that,” he lied.
“All right,” said the doctor.
When the doctor left, Rachel wondered if it was Brett who took her to the hospital or one of the assistants. Come back to her mind how it looked at her after she confirmed that the letter she received from her father was fake.
The door opened again and he saw Brett enter. It smiled at him but he didn’t have enough strength to be kind to her. She was mad at the man because she was almost shot last night!
“I’m sorry about the baby,” Brett said and held his wife’s hand.
Wait, doesn’t it know he was almost shot? The doctor said he had already talked to the man. Never mind. Maybe Brett hadn’t heard the word “almost” so it assumed he had indeed been shot. Well, at the height of what he dropped last night, it’s actually possible to shoot him. He didn’t answer and looked the other side of the slid.
“Rachel, you should have told me your condition.” Brett added.
She was annoyed to face the man because of the tone of his speech as if he was blaming everyone. “How can I say? Did you give me a chance?”
“There are many opportunities Rachel,” Brett said.
“It doesn’t matter anymore. I’m tired, just leave me please.” Then, she closed her eyes, feigning to be asleep. When the man left, he came up with a decision for the two of them who would be his child.
