“How is she doing now doctor? I hope she has gotten better?” Daniel asked as he walked to the doctor who’d just come out of the operating theatre.
The doctor stared at him, shook his head and made to leave when Daniel pulled him back. Normally, he’d have the doctor punished for daring to ignore him but with the way the doctor had looked at him, he could tell that the doctor had heard something about him. He knew that the doctor had walked out of the theatre while the operation was still ongoing but when the doctor was going back into the theatre, he wasn’t this way. Could the other doctors in the theatre have said something?
“Please let me go Mr Lopez, I have more work to do” the doctor told Daniel who grew even more suspicious.
“And what if I refuse to? What If I say I won’t let you go?” Daniel asked as he continued to stare at the doctor.
“I’d have to call the police then” the doctor said and Daniel had to control himself as he was afraid he would burst into laughter after hearing what the doctor had said.
“Police? You’d call them on me? Do you even know who I am?” Daniel asked.
“Of course i do, I know the kind of man you are. One would think you are just a ruthless mafia but you’re way more than that, you are an assaulter” the doctor said and left.
Daniel stared at the doctor in shock as the doctor walked away from him. “Assaulter?” He asked himself. He was still confused but then one thing was for sure, the doctor had definitely being told something that poisoned his mind about him.
Smiles crept up his face as he watched as some other doctors wheeled an unconscious Kathryn out of the operating theatre. He immediately rushed to one of the doctors. “Hope she is alright now?” He asked and the doctor nodded score they continued to take her away.
He stared at them, he would get to the root of this soon.
“Are you alright now?” Daniel asked with a smile on his face as he stared at a sleepy Kathryn. He knew she wouldn’t respond but he just felt good speaking to her, it eased him especially after he’d being informed that she would be alright.
He could remember how scared he’d being when he’d seen her with that knife in her stomach and the fear that gripped him was one he never wished to recall however the smiles were quick to fade away when he recalled what the other doctor had told him.
“She was stabbed in the same spot where she seemed to have been shot not too long ago. I don’t think she would be healed in that spot. We just have to hope” the doctor had told him.
He inhaled deeply, he was the one who’d shot her there. If he hadn’t been so angry that day, he wouldn’t have tried to shoot that man who’d betrayed him and hence, hurting Kathryn but one thing reduced the guilt he felt, if not for that, himself and Kathryn wouldn’t have gotten as close as they had now.
While he was still in the ward, he received an incoming call and staring at the caller, he frowned as he hated seeing Eduardo’s call. The man just never brought him good news and he wasn’t expecting any form of goodnews this time after all!
“Soeak now, I’m sure you have bad news” he told Eduardo coldly.
“Yes sir, I’m afraid I do have bad news for you” Eduardo said and Daniel clenched his fists, he wished this man would just bring him goodnews for once in his life.
“What’s the bad news this time? Does it have to do with company? I’d kill whoever messes with it this time” he said coldly, anger and hated wasn’t hidden in his voice as he made it visible.
“It’s not about your company sir …. At least for now that is.” Eduardo said and Daniel’s eye brow furrowed even more.
“What do you mean by for now that is?” He asked as he ran his hair back with his hands.
“Please come downstairs” Eduardo said
“And why should I? If I do, who would be here to look after Kathryn?” He asked Eduardo.
Eduardo inhaled deeply, “I knew you’d say this boss. I have sent someone up there, she will take care of Kathryn till you’re back upstairs after clearing yourself” Eduardo said and Daniel stared at the door, the person who Eduardo had claimed to send had already walked in.
“Are you from Eduardo?” He asked the woman as he stared at her from head to toe, trying to make sure he remebered her. He couldn’t bring himself to trust any random person with Kathryn so he had to do this. He took his phone, told Eduardo he was on his way before placing it in the table without the knowledge of the woman. He had successfully turned it to an audio camera so he could see whatever it was that the woman was planning.
“He is here…” Daniel heard someone say as different reporters rushed to him, flashing their cameras at him as they took pictures of him and tried to get answers from him.
“What the heck is this ?” He asked as he tried to move away from the crowd.
“Is this true Mr Lopez? Have you really done this? Isn’t that way too heartless of you?” A reporter asked and he rolled his eyes.
“What the heck are you talking about? Be clear or I’ll leave here right now” he told the reporter as he made to walk out on them while Eduardo did his best to make them stay away from Daniel.
“Your girlfriend, we have gotten news that you assaulted your girlfriend. You were in a fight with her and when things weren’t going in your favor, you’d taken a knife and stabbed her in the same spot where you’d shot her some time back” the reporter said and Daniel moved back in shock.
“Girlfriend? Who’s my girlfriend?” He asked and Eduardo whispered into his ears which caused his eyes to widen. “Kathryn!”
“Now you recall. Please tell us what she did that made you take such a drastic step sir” a reporter asked and Daniel pushed him away
“I don’t have to explain to anyone ” he said and made to leave when one of the other reporters suddenly spoke.
“Of course you don’t have to reply us. That is why you went and had a girlfriend without telling the world about it” the reporter said and Daniel immediately knew where the conversation was headed. He had to be fast because he knew that if he wasn’t fast enough, someoje would use it to their advantage, especially if that person happened to be one of his business rivals.
On walking into the ward, he saw that Kathryn had regained consciousness and he smiled before walking closer to her.
“How are you doing now Kathryn?” He asked her as he slowly patted her hair.
“I’m fine now. You don’t look well, what is wrong?” She asked him.
“May I ask for a fabor?” He asked her and she nodded
“Of course, tell me what it is ” she told him.
“Will you be my girlfriend?” He asked her and her eyes widened in shock… where did that question suddenly come from?
