Chapter six

Book:The Mafia's Hit Girl Published:2024-6-2

I watched her as she held on to her stomach as she coughed till she fell to the ground but not unconscious .
“What have you done?” I asked her angrily.
“You can’t kill him, he didn’t betray you… I did and if anyone is to be punished, I should be” she said and I couldn’t make out from what she was saying.
I turned only to see that the man for whom she had taken a bullet was taking for his heels. I scoffed, “coward”. He couldn’t go far before my guards caught up with him and I signaled for them to lock him up in a room before tapping Kathryn.
“Get the doctor now!” I yelled at them and they went to call the doctor before I carried her in my arms. What had I done? I knew she was strong and couldn’t be killed by a mere bullet but since it’d hit her in a sensitive spot, I doubted she was going to make it.
“Be strong Kathryn, I beg you. Be strong, don’t die” I told her as I saw that she was losing a lot of blood and at this point, I knew I sounded nothing like a mafia don but rather a desperate lover.
“You fool, I’m fine. Stop acting like a lover” she told me and I stared at her, how much more cold could she get? I rolled my eyes and ignored her before carrying her.
Till we got to the hospital, she still kept her eyes open and her hands on her stomach. Not on the spot where she’d been shocked but on some other place.
Not wanting to stress her, I kept mute but I was very suspicious, why was she so concerned about that spot? What was so special there?
We rushed into the hospital and the moment she was laid to rest on the stretcher, she passed out.
AUTHORS’s POV…
As Daniel waited outside the ward, he ran his hand through his head, he was so worried about her. While he was still waiting, he saw that he had received a call.
“Tell me, what is it?” He asked as he rolled his eyes. On hearing what the caller had to say, his brows stiffened and he clenched his fists,… he was so angry and he threw the bouquet of flowers he had with him to the ground as he rushed out of the hospital… he was going to deal with whoever had messed with him and this time, Kathryn wouldn’t be there to take the bullet for whoever it was.
He got into the car where his driver had been waiting for him, “Old damel building” he told the driver before diverting to the person at the other end of the call. “I’ll be there in thirty minutes ”
“But sir, the old damel building is very dangerous and rumours have it that it could collapse at any point in time so….”
“Will you move or will I have to move your head from your body?” He asked coldly and scared, the driver accelerated the car and drove off.
.
Kathryn slowly opened her eyes as she looked around. She got up before turning to the nurse who’d just injected her.
“Nurse, there was a man who’d brought me here, where is he?” She asked, she wanted to provide attournment for her sins. She’d realized that maybe she was too mean to him.
“The man? He left like five hours ago. I didn’t see him immediately you went into the operating theatre ” then nurse told her
“What do you mean by that nurse? He couldn’t have left so soon, he must be so worried and five hours…” she decided not to bore the nurse and the nurse left.
How could he have left? She wondered. When she had only but a headache, he made sure to stick around her like a bee around honey. She’s even been so mean to him yet he decided to stay with her and now, when she’d been shot, especially by his own bullets, by his own hands… he wasn’t here.
Was his work really so important? She rolled her eyes, why did she care?
“I do care” she told herself when a certain realization dawned on her.
As long as she’d signed that contract where she had to be his personal bodyguard, she had to protect him without caring about her own life. “Damn it ” she cursed as she got out of her bed.
She took off the IV drip that had been connected to her wrist fiercely before getting off the bed and staggering to the door. She was still weak and when she held on to her stomach this time, she held on to the spot that had been bandaged… the spot she had been shot in.
Luckily and unluckily for her, the nurse had seen her walk out and she called after her. “What are you doing madam? A bullet has just been removed from your body and you’ve not even finished receiving your treatment so how can you now want to leave? Please come back” the nurse said as she tried leading Kathryn back into her ward.
It didn’t take up to two seconds of Kathryn’s death glare before the nurse withdrew. She inhaled deeply and shook her head and without speaking a word, she pushed the nurse into the ward and locked it from the outside before rushing out of the hospital.
Where could he have gone? What kind of personal bodyguard was she if she didn’t even know his whereabouts? She held on to her stomach as she rushed to a pay phone. She hit it so hard that some coins came falling out of it and she dialed his number but he wasn’t taking the calls and especially when she knew that the calls were going through, she had to worry. She dialed the driver and just as he took the call, she heard glass being smashed and she gasped, did it mean they were in some sort of danger?
“Stanley? Stanley? Where are you?” She asked as she yelled over the phone
“Kathryn, we’re at the old…..” just as he was about to speak, the call got disconnected but before it eventually got disconnected, she heard a bullet go through and she gasped in shock.
She’d failed as the assassin that had been sent to murder Daniel…. She couldn’t fail as his guard now, his personal one at that.
She tried calling over and over again but the calls couldn’t go through, she’d exhausted all the coins.
She inhaled deeply, she couldn’t get his location but at least she knew he was at some old location and now…. All she needed was a phone, an android phone.
She snuck out of the pay phone and moved by a man at a local tea stand and since she was very sneaky, she managed to get his phone without his knowledge and she ran with it. With his phone, she managed to track Daniel’s location.
“The old Damel building?” She muttered to herself “what could he be doing there?… that building could collapse at anytime and who knows…. There could even be a fire outbreak there” she said in shock as she held on to her stomach in pain.
Part of her training rules stated: never put yourself first, always do whatever you’re paid for, you can die in the course.
….. this kept her going.
