I locked my gaze on Lance for a moment, noticing how the corners of his mouth drew up as if he was amused by something. While I waited for him to elaborate on his recent statement that I should stay in my room whenever he came home, one of my eyebrows arched.
“When you say you don’t go out, what exactly do you mean? “I asked him a question.
“It’s self-explanatory, Alexa,” he said sternly, his gaze remaining fixed on the papers he was reading.
I moved closer to him and snatched the newspaper from his grip, just like a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum. He scowled at me, but his glum expression didn’t bother me in the least. “You’re still in love with me,” I guessed, and he shrugged half-heartedly. While I waited for his response, I kept my hands on my hips.
He stood up and walked upstairs after saying, “You’re delusional.”
I stood there watching him walk away, waiting for him to disappear into his bedroom before proceeding to the kitchen. I rummaged through his refrigerator to see what he had because I was hungry.
If he wanted me to stay in my room, that’s fine with me!
I was well aware that he was enraged by what I had done, but I had already expressed regret and would go to any length to win his heart back. I didn’t have to worry about an intruder because the door was double-locked, and I kept myself occupied by watching movies.
I stayed in my room the entire day, but Lance didn’t bother to check on me once. His lack of interest nearly killed my will to fight, but I couldn’t back out now. I imagined something delicious as I stared at the sandwiches on the side table: rice and a bowl of hot beef soup with lots of cabbages and chilli. I could survive on bread and water alone, but it would be not easy to eat them for dinner after having them for snacks and lunch.
I believed to myself that I was capable of accomplishing my goal.
So I went back to watching a movie on my phone while keeping a silent eye on the door, hoping Lance would knock and invite me to eat with him.
I was supposed to wait until midnight, but by ten o’clock in the evening, my stomach was grumbling for food. I crept up to the door and peered outside quietly. Because the lights downstairs were already turned off, I used my phone’s flashlight and walked down on tiptoes.
The kitchen was at the far end of his penthouse, but as I approached the area where delicious food was prepared, the aroma of a beef assaulted my senses, and I assumed it was a spicy soup or a beefsteak. It wouldn’t matter to me as long as I could have some rice with it.
When I first walked into paradise, I turned on the light and went straight to the casserole containing the food. I grabbed a white and porcelain bowl from the cupboard and filled it with the beef soup as soon as I found it. The rice cooker and the refrigerator were my next stops, where I could get a cup of rice and something cold to drink.
I knew I shouldn’t drink a cold cola with beef, but my throat was itching for something sweet. I turned off the kitchen lights before I started eating, hoping Lance wouldn’t notice.
When the lights were turned on, I ate my food with gusto in the dark, and when I saw Lance standing at the doorway, my eyes widened in terror. Before finishing the last of the canned cola, I gave him a peace sign. “I’m sorry,” I said as I stood up to leave, apologizing for stealing some of his food. I took one final look at the beef and vegetable-filled porcelain bowl.
He said, “Sit down and eat,” and I heeded his stern warning.
I waited for him to take a seat, but he never did. While his back was against the wall, he just stood in the doorway, staring at me with his cold gazes. “How do you think I’m going to swallow my food while you’re there?” I inquired because, to be honest, I couldn’t look him in the eyes when he was only dressed in a robe, and I knew he was naked beneath it.
He said, “Ah, okay,” but he misunderstood what I was asking. When he went to get a bowl from the cupboard and filled it with beef and vegetables, my eyes followed him. He went to the refrigerator to get his drinks after scooping up a cup of rice.
After he sat in a chair across from mine, I told him, “I didn’t ask you to join me.” I tried to look away because his well-developed chest was distracting me from my hunger.
“I haven’t had my dinner yet,” he replied, his jaw clenched, and I raised an eyebrow in response to his statement.
I was suddenly intrigued and inquired, “Why?” ”
He replied, “I waited for you, and you haven’t come out since morning,” and I dropped my spoon and fork on the table, causing a distinct sound of metal to reverberate throughout the room.
“Are you kidding me?” I exclaimed. You said I couldn’t come out when you were at home! ” Our morning conversation served as a reminder to him.
He laughed and said, “I was joking, Alexa.”
“Fuck you! You could have told me it was a joke and that I shouldn’t have been eating bread and Nutella all day!” I cursed him, but he only laughed at me. “How dare you, Lance?” I asked. ”
Without taking his gaze away from me, he reasoned, “I had no idea you could be stubborn at times. Anyway, finish your meal and leave in the morning.”
