Chapter 12

Before approaching Keith’s door and knocking, I took a big breath outside his room for strength and courage. “Hello,” I murmured, smiling at the most attractive man I’d ever seen, and when he smiled back, oh my my, how do I express how I felt both excited and giddy at the same time? Then, finally, I felt a million butterflies in my stomach, and I knew I’d slobber on him if I didn’t shut my lips right away.
“Marian, please come in.” Keith flung open the door wide to welcome me in.
I complimented his space and said it from the bottom of my heart, “Your apartment is nice.” Or my mouth would start complimenting him on everything in a matter of seconds. What if Keith was the one who aided me at the time?
Even as a housemaid, the prospect of living with him piqued my interest. The man was gentler than Dominic, and he didn’t treat me like a second-class citizen because of my current occupation.
“How are you doing, Marian?” “You appear to be upset,” he observed.
“I shouldn’t have come here, but Dominic is driving me crazy! “He’s been so tough to live with lately,” I moaned about Dominic’s behavior, and Keith gave me an unusual look. Oh, I failed to mention that he is devoted to his pal.
“Please be patient with him,” he asked.
“Why should I?” you might wonder.
Keith said, “Because he has a lot to cope with.”
“As an example?”
“For starters, he wasn’t allowed to get personally involved in their business. His face couldn’t be photographed, after all. After he was taken, his parents became paranoid, and no matter how much Dominic despised the rules, he adored his parents. Second, he was engaged to be married to someone unattractive, according to what I’ve heard.”
I shook my head in astonishment because his parents would never accept an unattractive daughter-in-law unless she were exceedingly wealthy! “She must be wealthy,” I remarked.
Keith said, “Super.”
“Oh well, it’s just a matter of getting used to it.” The least he could do was go ahead with the marriage if he didn’t want to disappoint his parents.”
“Yes, that’s correct. Something happened, though, and the woman declined to meet his future husband. He stated, “Her father claimed she was sick.”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” I said.
He agreed, “Right.” Keith said, presuming that it’s only Dominic and me in the house, “At least you’re here to keep him company.” He had no notion that multiple women were constantly accessible to warm Dominic’s bed. Keith grinned and pulled one of the chairs for me, saying, “Oh, well, it’s much nicer now that you paid me a visit.”
Keith wasn’t just good-looking; he was also a gentleman, in contrast to my boss, who is typically quiet and moody as if he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. “Thank you,” I responded as I took a seat. “Thank you, by the way, for assisting me in the kitchen earlier.”
“Don’t be concerned,” he responded with a smile on his face and dimples showing, attempting to captivate my naïve heart.
I admired him even more, and my obsession with him paralyzed me to the point that I couldn’t think of anything else. Then, finally, my mind went numb, and all I could do was stare at him. The man knew how to cook, bake, and captivate me with a simple smile.
I inquired, “Are you single?”
“I am,” he answered. Then, Keith tried to be respectful of my position as an unchaperoned woman in a men’s room by saying, “Hmmm, we can simply open the door if you like,” and my heart melted at his nice gesture.
“Would it be okay if I left it open?” I inquired about him.
“Why not?” He replied and walked over to the door to open it. Keith’s room was similar to Dominic’s, but it felt more pleasant and comfortable to live in. Everything was well-coordinated, and the furniture was a fantastic complement to his floor plan.
“Are you hungry? Earlier, I took some food from the kitchen,” he explained.
“Are you serious?”
“Yeah, and a cup of coffee as well. Come on,” he said, inviting me to share his mid-morning nibbles.
I used to be self-conscious about my weight, but Keith had invited me so that I couldn’t say no. Keith bombarded me with questions as we ate, most of which were personal. However, I kept some facts from him because I thought that telling him white falsehoods would go unnoticed.
“I can’t believe you’re still unmarried; you’re gorgeous and generous.”
“Actually, I dated someone before, but she’s gone now,” he explained.
I didn’t dwell on the subject because remembering a prior relationship is difficult. “Ah, I see. You don’t have to tell me about it.”
I excused myself from Keith after we finished our nibbles due to my chores. I didn’t want Dominic to see me in Keith’s room, either. “I suppose I’ll have to leave now,” I said.
“Of course. “I’ll see you later,” he said. Before leaving Keith’s room, I hastily replied, “OK,” but my smile faded as Dominic’s staring gaze awaited me outside.
“How did you end up in a man’s room?” He gave me a sneer. Because Keith was only a few meters away from us, Dominic was attempting to keep his cool, but the way he scowled at me was something I shouldn’t take lightly.
I said, “We simply had some nibbles.”
“At this hour?” He questioned, his brows furrowed at me as he checked the time on his watch. “Liar,” he accused me.
