Jane
Time flies and pain turns into memories. With each passing day, the pain strengthened me more than before. Memories that once hurt me now make me smile. Smile at the moments that we spend together with each other.
I remember when, as a child, my pet dog died, how broken I was, crying the whole time, not being able to sleep or eat anything. Then my mother said to me, ‘Time heals everything, but it can’t bring back what you’ve lost.’ Who would have thought that the words my mother once told me for my dog, the same word, would remind me of her, strengthening me every time I’m lost, or lonely?
Life’s unfair, but at times like this, when your heart is concealed by the dark cloud of pain and sorrow and when all hope seems to fade, a ray of sunshine comes to you, giving you hope, a desire to live for yourself and someone dear to you, same as mine.
If someone told me a few months before that, I would lose everyone dear to me in an accident. I would have laughed and maybe kicked the hell out of that person pretty badly. But now it’s the reality of my life.
But with everything wrong comes something good, something that provides us with happiness and faith to move forward.
I put my hand over my tummy, feeling the life growing inside it. The growth provided me with the hope of moving forward. “Mama will take care of you, my love.”
It’s hard to imagine that, with everything being so sad and disheartening, there is a life growing inside me.
“All your reports are great, and the baby is healthy as a horse,” Brandon said, cutting me from my thoughts after doing my monthly routine checkup.
“Thank you,” I replied, trying to get up from the chair.
“Let me help you.” Brandon leaned, placing his hand on me, supporting me to get up.
Everything is so hard when you’re so big. I’m eight months pregnant, and even the simplest thing in life feels hard when you’re so big.
“I’m almost finished with my work. Let me drop you.”
“I don’t want to bother you, and I brought my car. Don’t worry. I drive myself.”
“Great, you dropped me then.”
“Sure, but dinner’s on you today, then.”
“Promise,” Brandon grinned, making me sit in his private cabin.
“I have one more patient to see and then we can leave,” Brandon said, leaving me alone.
I know he did it on purpose. Every time I come here for a checkup, he doesn’t bring his car so he can drive me home. The first time I met Brandon, he was a stranger, yet he helped me. He was the person who gave me the happiest news during my hard times. He recently moved places and maybe it’s a coincidence or something else, but he moved to my neighborhood, both as my neighbor and my doctor. I saw him very often, and that resulted in our friendship.
And it’s because of friendship and my baby that I could move forward having faith in life.
I can never forget the day Brandon presented me with the news of my pregnancy. That day, the news became my hope, guiding me through the darkest passage of my life. And the moment I reached home from the hospital, there was still the pain of the past of losing my loved ones. But in all this darkness there was also hope of a new life breathing inside me, guiding me to the path of happiness with a new hope of life.
It wasn’t until the next week or so that a knock on my door amazed me was the person standing at my door?
Brandon
“What are you doing here?” Both I and Brandon said at the same time, amazed at finding each other on either side of the door.
“That’s what I want to know,” we both said together again.
“Go ahead,” Brandon said, allowing me to speak first.
“What are you doing on my doorstep?”
“You live here,” he said with a smile. “Guess what? We are neighbors.”
I looked at him uncertainly, not trusting his words, but before I could say something, a sweet little voice distracted me.
“Daddy,” I lowered my gaze and noticed a tiny girl around five tugging Brandon’s pants.
“Oh, yeah… How can I forget?” Brandon murmured, brushing his hair with his fingers. “Sorry, can we use your bathroom?”
“What!”
