Epilogue
6 months later
“My birthday can wait Kian, I’ve been waiting for this confirmation email for ages and today could be the day I finally get it” I say pushing Kian’s arm away from pulling me away from my desk.
Kian was my assistant. My old assistant since Thomas left to start his own creative agency which was totally unexpected but I was full on board. He had a lot more skills that should have been used for more than following me around.
” not when my ass will be handed to me for not getting you there on time. Come on Selly I thought we were over making my life so hard” he grunted as he managed to get me up from my seat.
I sent him a harsh look. ” I don’t appreciate your tone Kian. Just go and sort my schedule or something” I spat at him pulling away from him and getting back to my desk.
Kian grunted but finally left my office and let me continue my work in peace.
Or that is what I thought as I watched Jackie parade into my office, clicking her fingers as she approached me.
” oh come on” I mumble already pulling away from my desk and catching Kian smug smirk from outside. When he first started to work for me I tried to be a strict boss however as the weeks passed Kian realised I was anything but that. The dynamic in the office was incredibly relaxed so now he takes pride in walking all over me.
Jackie was part of the companies security. Kate decided on enlisting her here to keep an eye on me at work when she couldn’t. Jackie was visibly bigger than Kate and has many times, dragged me out of this office with ease.
” Nick will have all our asses if you’re not there in time” She says pulling me out of the office.
I don’t why they are so scared of him, he’s just a big softy really. Ever since the award show me and Nick have been getting on so well. Work is busier and half the time we fail to find time for ourselves but when we do we make the most of it.
The award show was a great plus for the business. We were thrown into the light and eyes were on us more than ever.
I didn’t think that I would like the attention instead I welcomed it. Today is my birthday and I do know that Nick and James had planned a celebration for me.
When I say they I mean James’s girlfriend. After the award show James came out to tell us that he was seeing this girl.
In true style he decided to not warn us however he did bring her to the celebratory dinner that night.
Kirsty was a event manager for this big company and has been a true joy when planning these big events. She was also a true joy at managing James which was a relief to both me and Nick. James no longer showed up unannounced since he spent most of his time with her.
I walked out of the building and had to put my lips together as I stared at Ben who was clearly forced to wear this ridiculous hat.
” please just take the bag and get in the car Selly” Ben said clearly irritated. I pulled at my coat and grabbed the bag from his hand. ” thank you benny. For this and for that” I said motioning to his hat.
I leant up and kissed his cheek.
He grunted and simply opened the door for me to get inside. When he got into his seat he ripped off the hat and breathed a big sigh of relief.
” just no more talking about the hat” he said as he put the car into gear and signalled off.
I shook my head. ” my lips are sealed”
He hummed as he drove off. I leant back in my chair and let benny drive away in peace.
It’s crazy to think how much my life has changed but in reality its not changed that much. Its more of the people around me.
Benny arrived at the house in good time. One of the biggest changes was that me and Nick bought a house. It was nice to be able to come back to Nick and call somewhere home.
” How many people are here” I asked Ben as he parked the car and walked up next to me.
” like everyone” Hannah said coming over to me. She quickly wrapped her arms around me giving me the tightest squeeze ever.
“happy birthday bitch” she practically screamed in my ear before conner could even grab her from me.
She had a hand placed over her mouth as conner whispered something into her ear. Her eyes widened significantly.
“oh shit” she mumbled only for conner to place his hand over her mouth yet again.
I shook my head and turned to find my family and possibly my boyfriend.
” hey ma” I whispered as I leant my head on her shoulder. She was in the kitchen watching my father cook something for the party.
” happy birthday honey, you want a dumpling?” he offered me to which I didn’t even think twice about as I grabbed it from him.
” what its her birthday” he shrugged at the narrowed eyes of my mother who clearly wasn’t pleased with dad already offering me food.
” yeah but these are for her guests not her” she argued with him. I couldn’t stand around to hear them bicker back and forth any longer.
I turned on my heel and searched for him. It wasn’t really surprising that it didn’t take me long to find him. Towering over the many guests he was guiding people through the house.
Jake who had left the office was earlier than me, was stood next to Nick and when he saw me he tapped Nick on the shoulder.
It was like slow motion as he turned to me. Those gorgeous warm eyes searched mine and a giant grin came upon his face. In good time, Nick made it to me. Without a second to waste he pulled me to his waist with his large hands and buried his face into my neck.
“hey beautiful, what took you so long” he hummed against my skin.
Damn it, how can a man smell so good. I brought my fingers through his hair. His hair was different now. One day he came home with a darker shade of brown and it did surprise me but I actually loved it. If it was even possible, the man became more handsome.
” wait, don’t tell me I think I already know” he says leaning back but not pulling away.
I narrow my eyes. ” speaking of which, come with me I must show you something” I had no words as Nick pulled me with him. He ran up upstairs and made a right into one of the rooms.
The green and white wallpaper brought a friendly atmosphere to the house that was always full of business and sometimes pleasure.
Nick disappeared into the little room round the corner and I could hear his whispers.
” Nick, what’s going on” I stepped forward looking for him but stopped suddenly when two pairs of legs moved out from the little room.
Nick stood behind them with the most cheekiest grin I have ever seen him wear.
” I’m… what how did you even get these without me knowing” I said as I bent down.
As soon as I was down to their level their bright blue eyes looked up at me.
” forget I asked that” I mumbled knowing full well that most people at my office go behind my back and especially to my boyfriend.
” Mum, Joseph took the one I wanted” Lucas said with a grumpy tone.
I stared at them both seeing that Joseph was wearing the blue jacket which was Lucas’s favourite colour.
This is another big thing that has changed since that night.
5 months ago, Nick came home from the hospital with a request that I honestly thought was ridiculous. I had no idea how to react and honestly my first answer was no. no way.
To even think about taking in two boys who had just lost their mother in a horrible accident in the city. But when Nick tricked me into meeting them for the first time it was completely out of the question for me to say no.

” Dad gave me this jacket. Your not going to argue with him are you” Joseph said smugly.
Nick tried to hid his laugh behind his sleeve but failed miserably.
After watching the boys laugh as they tried to fit into the jackets I made I started to draft designs for a kids collection. Jack was open to the idea, he always was. I think that’s what made us so successful as a partnership. He was always open to my creative ideas and never ran away from any challenges.
He was my business partner but also my best friend.
But this was what I waiting for earlier. Now I know why I never got the email because Nick was behind it all. Just like he always was.
” Mummy’s got more of them Lucas don’t worry” I said as I sorted out his collar. I was proud with how they turned out. The boys looked great.
The adoption process was a crazy time in my life but I didn’t think I was doing something wrong or out of my element. I loved them like my own and would continue to until their either don’t want me anymore or I die.
” Boys are you forgetting something” Nick says suddenly grabbing the boys attention.
They both looked up at Nick before Lucas broke out in a scream and lunged himself at me.
” sorry mama happy birthday” he said into my ear as he grabbed onto me tight.
Joseph followed soon after. ” happy birthday mama”
I hugged both of them tightly. Never would I have through that in 6 months’ time after receiving that award. That I would have two boys calling me their mother.
” you boys look good. How do you feel about modelling these for me” I said looking at them both.
Their eyes lit up. ” you mean with that pretty girl who gives us doughnuts” Joseph asked to which Nick chuckled.
” yes, why do you have a crush” I said pinching at his cheeks.
He swatted my hand away. ” don’t patronise me mama” my eyes widened at his choice of a word.
” he heard me say it on the phone earlier.” Nick informed me as he came around and stood next to me.
His arm went around my waist. Lucas nudged his brother like he always did when he saw Nick do that to me.
Having boys that were already grown at 7 and 8 years old made everything easier. I feel like I’m doing a really big favour for one of my family members. But in reality I actually have two boys as my sons.
” daddy says that if I use big words that I’ll get any girl I want” Joseph says proudly. I glance up at Nick only for him to grin down at me.
“is that how you got me honey” I asked with an arched brow.
With my tone I heard the boys run out of the room giggling. They had heard this tone many time before.
” well I believe so. Your attraction did stem off from my speech that night where you happened to save my life” Nick said spinning me around and pulling me into his chest.
He walked back forcing my back to the boys playing area desk.
His hand went to the wall behind me.
” you know that it was so much more than that” I whispered. I glance down at his lips wondering how long I was going to have to wait until I could feel them against mine.
Not too long I hope.
” I know beautiful. Before I forget Happy birthday” I watched him search in the boys toy box and pull out a simple red box.
I bit my lip at how much he had planned.
” I thought about waiting till later but I realised that we might be a little busy with something else” he said grinning at me.
Surprisingly the boys didn’t remove that side of our relationship. We still found plenty of time for that and the boys had a small idea about their mum and dads own playtime.
I moved my eyes away from his and started to open the box.
When I opened it I was a little let down at how light and empty the box was but I took out the little card that was inside.
“what’s this” I asked him but he just kept his lips shut.
I turned the card over and read it.
” you shouldn’t be working from that office anymore Selene. You need a real creative space to do that and I want to give this to you as a thankyou for everything you have done for me and our family” Nick says as I stare at the card.
Under my name was a name of a studio here in the city.
” how much did you spend on this Nick” I said completely surprised at his act.
He shook his head. ” you know I don’t discuss expenses baby, it’s not refundable either so don’t even think about doing anything” he said triumphantly.
I have lawyers I’m sure I can find a loophole somewhere.
” this is crazy, I told you no big expensive gifts and yet you do this” I said to him.
He took the card from me and pulled me close again. ” just another way I’ll stop you from leaving me anytime soon” Nick says as he brings his lips to my forehead.
I close my eyes and enjoy the feeling. He brings his mouth down further and finally descends on my lips.
” I love you beautiful, I don’t think it’s possible for me to love you anymore” he whispers.
I tighten my hold on his arms. ” well keep trying” I whispered as I smoothed my ahnds around his back.
” oh I will Selene. Everyday you look even more beautiful and you become more intelligent and successful. I have to keep a tight reign on you” he said as he wrapped his hand around my throat.
I moaned out in pleasure.
” you dirty dirty man” I teased him as my hand moved to his obvious bulge he was hiding away. Although he wasn’t doing a good job of it now.
” only for you my darling” he whispered with a deep tone that had me feeling it right into my core.
I took him being so close to me as an advantage and pulled him in so that I could feel his lips against mine.
He took my lips with urgency as he parted them with mine. I felt the moans escaping my mouth at a record rate. God, I really did love this man with all of me.
My hand sneaked underneath his shirt and felt his rock hard abs against my fingers.
” Lucas don’t look, whatever you do don’t look”
I removed my hand quickly and pulled away from Nick. I felt like I had just been caught by teachers in school, this was crazy.
When we turned around we both saw James shake his head and the two of us as he covered the boy’s eyes.
” do you have no shame, you’re literally in their playroom at least attempt to be discreet and go to your bedroom, you exhibitionists”
I brought my fingers to my lips trying my best not to let out a laugh at James’s words.
” what were you doing to daddy, mummy” Lucas says pulling off James’s fingers that were covering his eyes.
Nick stood in front of me almost like he was protecting me.
” she was just checking daddy’s tummy for something” I catch James shaking his head once again as he gives us a disapproving look.
But thankfully Lucas believed Nick and left the room with James.
Nick came back to me and stood behind me, laying his head on my shoulder.
“that was a close one ” he mumbled into my shoulder to which I nodded in agreement.
” are you going to hide in here all day” Olly said randomly coming into the room. One of my dads sushi rolls in his hand and probably another one making its way down his throat.
Nick reluctantly pulled away from me but took hold of my hand. Not willing to let me go just yet. With how busy we were these days the simple touch of Nick’s hand on mine was enough to last me through the day.
Knowing that he would be there for me regardless of what he had planned for the day was something that made me feel extremely lucky.
I ended up following the brothers out to the hall as we made our way downstairs to our family and closest friends.
I never expected my life to be like this. I had thought I would just spend my 20’s working and making money, not having a real family.
As I walked into the room I spotted him before he saw me. I sneaked behind him and grabbed onto his shoulders.
” YOUR LATE” I shouted into his ear. Just like I had imagined he screamed as he placed his hand on his chest.
” very funny boss lady” Thomas said finally turning around.
My eyes widened at what he was wearing. ” well don’t you look expensive, you are just showing off now” I said to which he grinned. Clearly not embarrassed at my comment in front of everyone.
It’s crazy to see how much he’s grown, how he’s evolved since working for me. I keep him close though, he’s been lucky to have success in the first few months of his business but those months are probably the most important and me and Nick try our best to mentor him in any way we can.
” I got to show up for you don’t i. I also have a hot date tonight” he said wiggling his brows suggestively.
My eyes move to James. ” what, can’t blame the boy for having good taste in personality” James attempted to defend himself. Thomas used to be this sweet assistant of mine until James came into the picture. But I can’t deny, his personality is contagious.
” regardless I’m happy that you’re all here for my birthday. I’m blessed to have such amazing people surrounding me” I said as I leant into Nick’s shoulder.
He placed a small kiss on my head. The moment was rather sweet until one of the boys spoke out.
” oh god is mum going to cry” this was joseph.
Nick straightened up ” boys,” he said with his commanding tone that had them instantly sitting straighter and bowing their head.
I glanced at Nick just in time to see his grin.
” stop being mean to them, they’re just playing” I said to him to which he just leans in to kiss my lips. A subtle yet meaningful kiss.
” you love it” he whispered.
I breathed out a huge breath. He’s right, I do. I love everything about that man and I’m the luckiest girl in the world to have him love me back just as hard, maybe even more.
