Lindsey’s church sermon became the number one trending news on social media, it has always been like this with everything that has to do with her and Keith since their marriage. She even got a call from Georgina who didn’t stop praising her and then from the chairman who requested to see her and Keith.
She parked at the parking slot and her eyelid glanced at a particularly familiar car. The smile plastered on her face as a result of the good call time she had with Georgina and the chairman disappeared and turned into anger. She alighted from her car and walked into the car and just like she expected, she meet her there with Keith having lunch together.
“What’s going on here?” She asked walking towards them. Audrey glanced at her and smirked without saying a word in response to her question, to turn to her food and continued eating. Lindsey shifted her stare from her to Keith as if telling him that the question was actually meant for him. “What does it look like?” Keith asked, not giving her a straight answer to her question.
“I’m not blind Mr. Keith Winslow, I can see very well and_” “Then why talk as if you lost your sight on your way back from church,” Audrey fired glancing at her. Lindsey couldn’t just hold the anger in her and before she could calm herself down, she landed a hot heavy slap on Lindsey’s face. “I was speaking to my husband not you, so shut the hell up,” Lindsey was fed up with their whole best-friend relationship, it didn’t look like one anymore and she was getting suspicious of it.
“Did you just slap her?” Keith asked furiously. “And I would do that, again and again, she has the guts to speak when two married adults are speaking, who made her a part of our marriage or the Winslow family,” Lindsey snapped angrily. “She is my best friend, you don’t see me slapping Leen or going against your friendship with her,” Keith said. His word made Lindsey angry even more and it took all the strength in her to prevent herself from landing yet another slap on the surprised-looking Audrey’s cheek.
“And how many times have you seen Leen in our home after our marriage, or did you see Leen at our honeymoon giving stupid excuses about a meeting, gosh Keith, you should set clear boundaries between your stupid best friend relationship with a married woman, I can’t have her walk into my home at any time of her choice and go into my kitchen to make lunch for my husband, I wouldn’t seat down and watch that happen, the very next time I witness this scene, I would hold a press conference and of course, you wouldn’t appreciate the outcome of my reaction,” Lindsey said her piece and turned to go but Keith’s words stopped her.
“Your house, and who said this is your house, I brought you into this house so it’s mine,” Keith snapped angrily. “I’m your wife, so your house is my house and you can’t bring low-life people who don’t know their boundaries into my home,” Lindsey rolled her eyes at Audrey as she said each word. Audrey let out a soft breath and smiled. “I’m sorry I overstepped my boundaries, Keith called me to come and make lunch for him since you weren’t returning from church anytime soon, I’m sorry, Mrs. Lindsey and I would want to assure you that nothing is going on between me and Keith, we are just childhood best friends and nothing attached, Sorry for the inconvenience, I would take my leave now,” Audrey said picking up her bag.
“Whatever, know your boundaries and stop giving me flimsy excuses,” Lindsey snapped behind her as she watched her leave the house. She turned to Keith immediately after the door slammed shut. “If you don’t want to answer to your mother, you better watch it, the contract says no extramarital affairs till the contract is over and that clause applies to you too,” Lindsey snapped.
Keith stared at her and Audrey’s warning kept echoing in his head, “You sure have some nerves now don’t you, maybe because you think you would grow to be as powerful as my mother because you have been made the vice president,” Keith said but all he got was a chuckle from Lindsey, if only he knows she never wanted any of those things then he would probably some making reference to it.
“Your grandfather called, he asked we come to the Winslow villa for lunch, you should get ready,” Lindsey said on her way up to her room. Keith wanted to say something but got interrupted by an incoming call from Audrey. “Hi, I’m so sorry about her attitude, look trust me I would take care of her,” Keith apologized immediately after the call connected.
“I warned you, didn’t I? But you wouldn’t listen, you shouldn’t have brought her into the family business talk more of making her the vice president now she now thinks she is mighty and powerful, the younger version of Georgina so I should be scared of her, Keith that low life girl slapped me and talked to me as if we were in the same class, or yes, we are, her class is even higher than mine, she is Mrs. Lindsey Winslow, the vice president of the Winslow conglomerates and the CEO in charge of three lead companies and perhaps the soon to be Chairwoman and what am I?, Mrs. Audrey Robert, soon to be divorcee, Keith’s secret lover who he can’t even show to the public and a medical doctor fortunate enough to come from a rich home, gosh my life must be a joke,” Audrey said those words with so much bitterness, her hatred for Lindsey just grew up to it’s max and nothing can ever make her like Lindsey ever again or bring her back to her good or perhaps her mercy book. All she wanted at that moment was to crush her and take her away from Keith’s life.
“I’m sorry, I’m really Sorry,” That was all Keith could say to her. They have already planned to destroy Lindsey but it would take at least two months if not more for them to accomplish that. “Stop apologizing Keith and get to the action, we are going to crush that bitch that thinks she has climbed the societal ladder and bring her to the position that she deserves,” Audrey said.
Keith wanted to talk but he heard footsteps of Lindsey coming downstairs, he quickly ended the call without saying a word to Audrey. Audrey stared at her phone stunned, “Did Keith just hang up the phone on me?” Audrey asked dialling his number again but he wasn’t answering. She gave up on calling his number after a countless number of times and drove home angrily.
An hour later,
Keith pulled up in front of the Winslow villa, they were the last to arrive as everyone was already seated with their wives engaged in one conversation or the other when they arrived. “And here comes, Pastor Mrs. Lindsey Winslow,” Thalia announced immediately after she saw them letting everyone know that the couple they have been waiting for already arrived. All eyes turned to them and Lindsey could see the unpleasant look Cynthia and Mr. Pete were giving her. Lindsey smiled, she cared less about them, they were axillary family members just like her and she had more powers than them so she had no reason whatsoever to be scared of them.
She adjusted her designer gown as she hugged the family member who seemed happy to see her, including Vanessa, even though she can’t tell if she was just pretending or was genuinely happy to see her but whichever it was, she already made up her mind to be careful and just finish up her four years already exhausted contract with Keith in peace and not in pieces
Georgina hugged them tightly before ushering them to their seat at the expense of Francis and Cynthia who had to give up their seat for them. “I was mesmerized at your church sermon Lindsey, my grandson sure has good eyes for a wife,” The chairman commented making Keith scoff. “Thank you, grandfather,” Lindsey said, unlike Mr. Pete who made it obvious that he didn’t like her, The chairman dotted on her and saw her as a member of the family just like Georgina so she was regarded as one but for Mr. Pete, she never addresses him as a family member.
“I hope you have a good time running the company, Vanessa, you should assist her well at Warris and you too, Cynthia, make sure you are not a pain in her ass at Ragusang Bio, do you both understand?” Chairman Winslow asked with a strict face looking from Cynthia to Vanessa, after he was done looking at them, he turned to Lindsey giving her a warm smile.
“Yes, Grandfather, I understand,” Vanessa was the only one that responded, Cynthia was too angry to say anything because of the special treatment they were giving to Lindsey leaving her and Vanessa as if they were slaves “I’m not forcing you to answer my question Cynthia but just so you know, a single complain about you from Lindsey would kick you out of the Winslow conglomerates, never to return again and not even your family could do anything about that,” Chairman Winslow warned giving her a stiff look. Cynthia managed to bow respectfully at her before shifting her gaze to look at Lindsey’s smiling face. “You,” she muttered wishing she could just destroy Lindsey but if wishes were horses beggars would ride.
“Food is served,” Chef Rosita announced
