Lindsey walked into the company looking around, it was her first time going to the Winslow conglomerate and it looked bigger than what they showed in pictures and videos online. She walked behind Joyce who was leading her to Georgina’s office and every staff they came across bowed their head in respect to her.
Lindsey saw a lady walking towards them, she looked familiar and she was sure she must have seen him somewhere I couple of times but she wasn’t sure where exactly she had met her.
“I guess you couldn’t wait for tomorrow, you had to come to the company today,” Cynthia said with an insincere smile plastered on her face. Lindsey stared at her trying so hard to remember her. From the way she was talking it looked as if she knew her quite well. Fortunately for her, Joyce was able to get a glimpse of what was happening and quickly whispered to her who Cynthia was.
“Don’t tell me you don’t remember me?” Cynthia asked noticing what had just happened. “We met two times already, during your engagement and your wedding and you still didn’t_”
“I’m sorry Cynthia, there was a lot of crowd at my wedding and you don’t expect me to remember everyone, I’m not a robot,” Lindsey said cutting Cynthia’s words. Cynthia frowned taking offence at the fact that Lindsey was addressing her by her name. She was older than her and was married into the Winslow family first so she should accord her some respect besides she was a senior director in the company. “You should accord me some respect, Lindsey, I’m older than you and also a senior director,” Cynthia said.
Lindsey stared at her and noticed something off about her, she was obviously trying to bully her and make her feel less of herself “Gosh, her life must be a joke for her to meet bullies wherever she goes” Lindsey thought. She grew up being bullied in school and after Angela left her for her lover, she joined her day and was bullied even more by her step-siblings and stepmother in fact all her life, she was a victim of bully and she had zero self-esteem until she met Leen who stood up for her and helped her build herself esteem shaping her into s better person, that was how their friendship began and grew strong.
“Good for you,” Lindsey began. She didn’t know why Cynthia was trying to bully her but she wasn’t going to let it happen. “I don’t work here but I’m sure you get as much respect as you deserve to fill up your stomach,” Lindsey said making Joyce snicker. Cynthia stared at her stunned by her aura. Never has someone talked so low of her, not even Vanessa Harry’s wife. And here was Lindsey insulting her in front of people. “What did you say?” Cynthia hoped she had heard her wrong. “I’m actually exhausted and I need to see mother real quick so if you don’t mind, excuse me,” Lindsey said and began to walk away even before Cynthia could say anything.
The staff that witnessed the drama turned their eyes sharply when Cynthia shoot them dangerous stares, they knew better than to get on any of the two woman’s bad lists.
Lindsey yanked the door open and meet Georgina busy with a file “I wasn’t expecting to see you here” Georgina asked staring at her. She offered her s seat before ordering Joyce to get her water. “Such great news, you have there my dear, too bad I heard to hear it from the reporters” Georgina smiled at her. Lindsey knew what she was talking about but that was s topic she didn’t want to talk about “In the future do inform me first, there are more diplomatic ways to send the news out to the press” Georgina said not willing to drop the topic and listen to Lindsey who has been trying to say something. “How is the baby?” Georgina asked. Lindsey smiles finding the time to speak “Nothing has been confirmed, I just felt nauseous and went to throw up, I don’t know how words began to spread” Lindsey said. She looked from Joyce who dropped a glass of cold water in front of her, to Georgina and noticed how her eyes were fixed on her belly. “I will contact the family doctor, he would get you a private gynaecologist, I don’t want you to share with Cynthia and Vanessa,” Georgina said picking up her phone to dial the number but Lindsey stopped her even before she reached for her phone. “I can take care of myself, I came because of something else,” Lindsey said.
“About the board meeting, Joyce told me about it,” Lindsey said. “Oh right, what about it?” Georgina asked. Lindsey inhaled deeply and turned to Joyce who was standing at a reasonable distance. “Can you excuse us for a moment?” Lindsey asked. Even though Lindsey said it as a request but Joyce didn’t have the power to turn it down. All she did when Lindsey made the request was to bow slightly at her before leaving the room.
“What’s the board meeting about, I really don’t want to be part of the Winslow business,” Lindsey said but Georgina scoffed. “You must Lindsey, you don’t have much say” she stated. “But this is just a mere contract and it wasn’t stated anywhere in the contract that I would join the family business,” Lindsey said.
“But it did say you would oblige with everything that is connected to being Keith’s wife and also there is a session that says there is room for more adjustment” Georgina paused to look at her. “But_” “Everything that has to do with being Keith’s wife includes stepping in as the new Vice president of the conglomerate,” Georgina said maintaining eye contact with Lindsey. She could see how surprised she was. “Vice president? Ma’am I can’t do that, I can’t manage a whole conglomerate, please_”.
“You are just assisting your husband, my dear, all you need to do is own shares, take up the_”
“I can’t do it” Lindsey snapped forcefully, Georgina had cut her words short so she couldn’t complete her previous sentence but now she doesn’t care. She just has to get herself off the hook. “I know you are scared but you have me and Joyce, she’s the best and trust me she would be the best secretary you have ever had, just follow my lead and you would be fine,” Georgina said but that wasn’t enough to convince Lindsey.
“Attend the board meeting tomorrow, you need to meet the rest of the board members and get to know whom you would be working with. I get this is all fake but your years is a long time and if we don’t put you in, the public will raise their suspicious eyes and that wouldn’t be good for us” Georgina said. What was Lindsey expecting? the Winslow family were one of the many elites that lived for the public and every slightest thing they do goes up to the internet. “I hate this life” Lindsey muttered getting up, her visit was fruitless. She didn’t achieve her main deal. “Get yourself checked and get back to me also get ready for tomorrow, you need to have a pretty entrance,” Georgina said.
“Hmm, I will work on that” Lindsey said before she left the office. Entering her car, she got an incoming call from Keith. “What was that all about?” Keith who had been waiting for Lindsey to return home asked impatiently. He was having a good time with Audrey at their picnic when she suddenly came across the video about Lindsey being pregnant. She confronted Keith in tears and he tried explaining to her but Audrey was too angry to listen to anything. She walked out on him angrily ruining their picnic. “What, why are you yelling at me?” Lindsey asked.
“Are you really pregnant, we never made love so how is that even possible, I didn’t get you pregnant so you should better look for who did, hope you understand what I’m talking about?” Keith said. He didn’t bother to reduce his voice. He was so pissed at her and never imagined she would come up with such a lie just to bring the both of them to the limelight again.
“Oh, about that, don’t worry it’s just a rumour but why are you so angry huh?” Lindsey asked finding their sudden attitude very funny. Miguel hissed before dropping the last words. “You better be careful Lindsey, I wouldn’t want to see such crab online again, get used to your new temporary title and avoid the paparazzi” Keith fired and ended the call before Lindsey could speak and called Audrey immediately.
Lindsey stared at her phone and scoffed “he called just to say this nonsense” Lindsey thought surprised. She inhaled deeply hoping that when she visit the hospital the next day to check herself, the result would come out negative and save her from a lot of shame. Keith wouldn’t fail to expose her to other members of the family as a cheat and perhaps the public would learn about it and perhaps tag her ‘a cheating pregnant wife’ that would eventually be the end of her because she can’t bear the public shame again.
