Chapter 43 Then it would trouble you

In the afternoon, Aimee returned to Hayden’s Mansion. As soon as she stepped inside, she spotted Camdyn sitting on the sofa, wearing a worried expression as he gazed at her.
“Aimee, something happened last night, didn’t it? Why weren’t you home?” Camdyn inquired, his concern evident.
Aimee was momentarily taken aback. She had expected Camdyn to discover her absence this morning, planning to explain that she hadn’t encountered him because she had left early.
Unexpectedly, he had found out about it last night.
Maintaining her composure, Aimee replied to Camdyn, “Grandpa, there was an emergency with a patient last night. I rushed to the hospital. I’m truly sorry for causing you worry.”
Relieved, Camdyn responded, “Is that so? Aimee, if something like this occurs again, remember to inform me. I worry about you.”
“I’m sorry, Grandpa. I won’t hesitate to inform you from now on,” Aimee assured him.
Camdyn felt a pang of distress at seeing her in this state.
He said, “Aimee, we are family. Never hesitate to interrupt or trouble me. If you confide in me, it would make me happy. If you keep things to yourself, I’ll be worried.”
“Grandpa, I promise to always inform you in advance,” Aimee promised.
Finally, Camdyn felt a sense of relief.
He stood up and said to Aimee, “Come, Aimee, let’s go see Pat together. He wasn’t feeling well last night. He wanted you to check on him. Unfortunately, you weren’t home.”
Aimee was momentarily stunned upon hearing his words, then she understood why Camdyn had discovered her absence last night.
It was all because of Patrick.
Patrick wasn’t feeling well last night?
This struck Aimee as odd.
In her view, it was simply impossible.
Except when she administered medication to Patrick, which could cause temporary discomfort due to nerve stimulation.
At other times, Patrick never experienced any discomfort.
Unless the person who tampered with his equipment did something else, there was no reason for Patrick to be unwell.
With these thoughts in mind, Aimee asked, “Grandpa, did anyone come to see Mr. Hayden last night?”
“No, there was no one apart from us,” Camdyn replied.
“Then how did you know that Mr. Hayden wasn’t well?” Aimee inquired again.
Camdyn had been diligently taken care by her these past few days and would sleep soundly at night, making it even more unlikely for him to be aware of Patrick’s condition.
Camdyn pondered for a moment before saying, “Ah, the people around Pat contacted me. It was Trace. You haven’t met him, right? He’s been by Pat’s side since he was very young, serving as his right-hand man.”
Aimee unconsciously furrowed her brow, harboring doubts about this Trace.
She asked, “Grandpa, has Trace been at home this whole time?”
“Yes, if Pat needs anything, Trace is assigned to handle it,” Camdyn explained.
“Then why haven’t I seen him?” Aimee pressed further.
Camdyn responded, “Perhaps you haven’t crossed paths. He usually only appears when Pat summons him and remains unseen otherwise.”
Aimee refrained from further questioning, but suspicions began to arise within her regarding this man.
Upon entering Patrick’s room, she was immediately met with his eyes, brimming with an intense curiosity.
Aimee couldn’t help but gasp, feeling an inexplicable sense of danger emanating from Patrick’s gaze.
She approached, putting on a facade of calmness, and inquired, “Mr. Hayden, I heard from Grandpa that you felt unwell last night. Can you tell me the reason behind it?”
Patrick responded, “Perhaps it was just a nightmare. I had a restless sleep. It’s nothing serious.”
Upon hearing this, Aimee found it even more perplexing.
Her medicine was designed to promote sleep and induce a sense of calm, making nightmares highly unlikely.
However, Aimee chose not to reveal her suspicions. Instead, she pretended to ponder the matter and, after a moment of silence, stated, “It would be better if I examine you, so that Grandpa can be reassured.”
A faint smile curved Patrick’s lips. How could he not understand the underlying message in her words?
She was reminding him that if he didn’t want to worry Grandpa, he shouldn’t engage in such nonsense.
Patrick replied, “Then I would appreciate your assistance, madam.”
Aimee’s legs felt weak, and she nearly stumbled despite wearing flat shoes.
Frowning, she gazed at Patrick, as if questioning: Are you alright? Are you sick? Are you not planning to divorce me? Why are you addressing me as ‘madam’?
However, Patrick seemed to be deliberately provoking her. He chuckled and said, “What’s the matter, madam? Don’t you want to examine me? Don’t you want to do your job, madam?”
Aimee truly wanted to reach out and cover Patrick’s mouth.
What had gotten into Patrick today?
Why was there this inexplicable anger?
Aimee wasn’t certain about anything else, but she was 100% certain about one thing.
Patrick, that bastard, hadn’t felt unwell at all last night.
Gritting her teeth, Aimee approached the bed and began examining Patrick’s body.
Whether intentional or not, she ended up placing her hand on Patrick’s face and gently caressing his cheek, causing a tingling sensation.
Aimee’s fingers then moved to the base of Patrick’s neck, seemingly checking his cervical spine, but secretly toying with the skin on his neck.
Suppressing her voice, she asked, “Mr. Hayden, if I apply pressure here, can you feel it?”
Patrick was taken aback to find that he did indeed feel it.
However, this sensation only made him feel even more uncomfortable.
He sensed his heart racing rapidly.
Observing this, Aimee continued pressing her fingers against his neck and said, “Mr. Hayden, I am a doctor. You must truthfully report any bodily reactions to help me make an accurate assessment.”
Patrick’s eyes darkened as he stared at Aimee’s face.
How could he not know that she was doing this intentionally?
She understood the intricacies of his body better than anyone else, yet she didn’t examine other areas but focused on his neck. What was the meaning behind this? Was she subtly indicating that she had a way to fix him?
Contemplating this, Patrick’s eyes grew more mischievous.
In a low voice, he whispered into Aimee’s ear, “I don’t feel anything, but, madam, being this close to me may provoke certain responses that shouldn’t be there.”
