After Aimee finished the surgery, it was already afternoon.
Having pulled an all-nighter, Aimee’s complexion was pale as she exited the operating room.
Her mentor, Colby Bauer, placed a comforting hand on her shoulder and said, “You did exceptionally well today. Take your time and perform more surgeries. You’ll excel in the future.”
Aimee nodded, expressing her gratitude, “Thank you.”
“You’re the most diligent student I’ve ever had. I believe you’ll make an excellent doctor. However, Aimee, you must consider your long-term prospects,” Colby earnestly advised.
Aimee had never been a naturally gifted doctor. In the vast Innisrial General Hospital, her qualifications were average at best. It was through sheer hard work that she managed to steadily progress in her medical career, one step at a time.
But as a mentor, Colby not only taught her the necessary skills but also felt responsible for guiding her towards a promising future.
Colby continued, “The higher your qualifications, the more challenging and diverse cases you’ll encounter, and the more surgical procedures you’ll be able to perform. Aimee, I truly hope you don’t solely focus on short-term gains.”
Understanding his point, Aimee replied, “I understand. I’ll do my best to write more research papers and earn professional titles.”
Colby nodded, acknowledging that this was indeed the best course of action for her at the moment.
As she bid farewell to Colby, Aimee let out a slight sigh.
Although she didn’t particularly care about these things, she knew she had to take certain steps.
Aimee found it bothersome and began to recall the papers she had written. Was there anything comprehensible that she could use to impress Colby?
Just as she was lost in thought, her cell phone rang.
It was a call from Matilda.
Aimee frowned, sensing trouble.
Sure enough, upon answering the call, Aimee heard Matilda’s worried voice, “Aimee, the Hank family has gone insane. They’ve already bid 1. 3 billion, and the price is still increasing.”
Aimee’s expression darkened. The initial bid for that item was a mere 9 million, yet it had skyrocketed to 1. 3 billion. The Hank family was truly willing to exhaust all their resources to obtain it.
“Continue raising the bid. I’ll look into some matters first,” Aimee instructed.
She didn’t hang up the phone but retrieved another mobile device and swiftly accessed a system.
After reviewing all the recent events involving the Hank family for the past two years, she finally uncovered the root of the problem.
It turned out that the elderly Mr. Hank was terminally ill. However, due to property-related issues, the Hank family couldn’t afford to let him pass away. They had been employing every means available to extend his life over the past two years.
This time, they caught wind that the item in question contained medicinal properties that could sustain Mr. Hank’s life.
Therefore, even if it meant bankrupting themselves, they were determined to acquire it.
Because compared to the Hank family’s assets, Mr. Hank’s private wealth was several hundred times greater.
As long as Mr. Hank remained alive, they would continue to receive a steady stream of income from him, enabling them to quickly recoup the 1. 3 billion.
But if Mr. Hank were to pass away, his entire private fortune would be confiscated, and they wouldn’t receive a single penny.
As Aimee perused the information, her expression darkened even further.
Several years ago, she had the opportunity to meet Mr. Hank himself. He was a benevolent old man with a genuinely kind heart. He had dedicated his life to serving the country, and it could be said that the nation’s thriving economy was inseparably linked to his contributions.
However, in his later years, he became the subject of public criticism, with people accusing him of extravagance, corruption, and squandering national funds.
It was during that time that Mr. Hank’s health began to decline.
Back then, Aimee had visited him with her teacher, hoping to provide him with a peaceful retirement.
However, his own descendants proved to be despicable. They were engaged in a vicious struggle for wealth and had resorted to all sorts of unscrupulous deeds.
Aimee had clashed with them on multiple occasions due to their greed and attempts to claim assets that didn’t rightfully belong to them.
In truth, if it weren’t for Aimee’s consideration of her teacher’s past relationship with Mr. Hank, she would have dealt with the Hank family decisively when they initially offended her. How could they have survived until now?
After ending the call, Aimee turned to Matilda, who had been waiting for her instructions, and stated, “Once they raise the bid to 1. 6 billion, let them have it.”
Matilda was taken aback for a moment before realizing the significance of Aimee’s decision. She asked, “Are you really going to let them have it?”
Aimee nodded and replied, “Yes, make sure they acquire it. I don’t want to be personally involved.”
Matilda understood the gravity of the situation and assured Aimee, “Don’t worry, it will be taken care of.”
Upon hanging up the phone, Aimee opened the Growlers’ application on her device.
“Is anyone available? Help me find out the name of the doctor treating Mr. Hank.”
Although Aimee had already eliminated several possibilities, she hadn’t paid much attention to the doctors on the list. She was well aware that the person who possessed the knowledge of her teacher’s prescription was unlikely to be among them.
So, who could possibly know about her teacher’s prescription?
She was determined to find that person.
Soon, Adam Sutton, the leader of the Growlers, responded, “I’ll look into it for you. Alan is probably approaching Innisrial by now. Let him focus on dealing with Patrick Hayden.”
Aimee acknowledged his response and said, “Okay, thanks, Adam.”
Adam inquired further, “Hasn’t Alan contacted you yet? What’s he up to? Is he still planning to confront Patrick Hayden head-on?”
Aimee also found it peculiar. The person who should have reached out to her early on had yet to make an appearance, leaving her feeling uneasy.
She replied, “I’ll contact him as soon as possible. Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to him.”
Adam wasn’t concerned about that; his worry lay more in how they would deliver the information worth 1. 6 billion to Patrick.
“Aimee, how long do you plan to stay with Patrick Hayden? We’ve clashed with him so many times, yet we haven’t gained any advantage. Don’t entangle yourself too deeply,” Adam advised.
Aimee wanted to say that it wouldn’t be for long, as Patrick was already contemplating a divorce. After pondering for a moment, she responded, “Once I cure him, I’ll explain everything to Camdyn and express my gratitude for his kindness.”
Adam didn’t push the matter further. Among the four of them, Aimee possessed the best ideas and was undoubtedly the most capable. If it weren’t for his seniority, he would be willing to let Aimee take charge.
With that, Adam simply said, “Aimee, take care of yourself.”
