Ace stared at her with an intense gaze, feeling irritated and annoyed beyond measure at Hope. He felt disgusted and annoyed that she would just try to shift him to her sister, after all the things they had gone through together, all the things they had gone.
“It’s like you really didn’t care about me at all, right?” he asked as he stared at her with frown and furrowed brows. “Why should I got to Penelope now? Huh? Doesn’t that disgust you in the slightest? After all the nights we spent together?” he asked with raised brows, getting her to look away with a bit of shame filling up her entire body. “I thought I was he cold one, but compared to you I’m far better off.”
“Hey, she was just trying to help.” Harley hissed as he stepped in front of Hope, blocking her from Ace’s icy stare. “There’s no need to attack her for trying to help you guys out.”
“That’s not the help Penelope and I both want.” Ace rolled his eyes as he took a step back from them, feeling annoyed. “We’re not desperately looking for a soulmate. Unlike you two. We just want to finally be in peace. She helped me, and I want to help her back, without pretending that we were soulmates that never found their way to each other and have finally found each other. That’s really stupid.” He rolled his eyes before turning, facing the door. “I’m going out. Just stop trying to convince her that I’m a better replacement for her dead boyfriend. I don’t love her and she doesn’t love be as well. Let’s leave it at that. Don’t try to meddle just because you feel like you have to. We don’t it.” He sneered before leaving them in the living room, both speechless and taken aback with a bit of shame filling up their body.
Hope only wanted the two together because she wanted Penelope to find someone else to love and for Ace to be in love as well and forget her. She didn’t think it would eventually make them both angry.
Penelope stepped out of the mansion and took in a sharp breath as she let her wavy hair loose, letting the blow into it and massage her sculp. It was a relaxing feeling, something to calm her down after Hope had irritated her. She didn’t want to sound off, she had told herself that she wouldn’t react the way she did. But unfortunately, she still did.
“Good morning Penelope.” A man, pushing a wheelbarrow filled with food bits waved at her as he passed by. She smiled back and waved back at him, before jogging towards him with a wide smile on her face.
“Good morning Nicolas.” She chuckled before pointing her eyes down to the mixture of food. “For the farm?”
“Yeah, this is the last wheelbarrow for this morning, the cows are demanding a lot more today.” He smiled as she nodded slowly.
“Let me help you out. I’ll carry this last one.” She said as she grabbed the handles from him when he stepped aside with a chuckle.
“I can carry it by myself. No need.” He protested, though he wasn’t taking it back from her as she began to push it, struggling a little.
“I need this.” Penelope smiled up at him as she pushed the wheelbarrow towards the gate, using a little more force than she thought she would be using. It was heavier than she assumed.
The man watched with a laugh as she struggled to push it forward. But even though it was heavy, she still resisted.
“Need some help?” the man asked as he walked to her.
“Oh no no no, I’m fine.” She nodded at him and pushed it forward. “I’ll get there.”
“As a corpse, that is.” A voice said behind her before she was pulled back by the collar of her shirt. Ace stepped forward and grabbed the handles of the wheelbarrow and began to push if forward with ease. “This isn’t even that heavy you Lazy pig.”
“Excuse me.” She rolled her eyes as she began to walk beside him as they walked towards the gates. “I didn’t shout out your name now did I?” she asked with a small smile as he nodded his head in agreement.
“I heard your inner voice call.” He chuckled as she sighed out and glanced around herself. “So, where is this farm?”
“Just outside the gates. Past the river we were at.” Penelope said as she clasped her hands together as they walked through the gates and were now outside, with the man taking the lead. “Did you just assume I would outside or was it mere coincidence?”
“Coincidence.” He nodded his head as he smiled down at her. “I was just about to go have breakfast.”
“You have your own house and you were going to have breakfast elsewhere?” she asked with a raised brow as he shrugged his shoulders.
“I’ve spent my whole life moving from one house to the other after my parents passed, any house would always have some for me so I never learned to cook.” He said as he turned his gaze towards the road, trying to keep the wheelbarrow steady with the tiny stones bulging out of the ground.
“You don’t know how to make an omelet?” she asked with a smirk as he rolled his eyes.
“No.” he said honestly as the Barn came into view from a distance. “Last time I tried I had an entire omelet highly salted, filled with eggshells, and burnt one side.”
“Wow, you’re really that horrible?” she chuckled as he laughed a little. “You eat breakfast at our place, but you disappear for dinner and supper, where do you go?”
“An old couple I came with cooks for me too.” He nodded slowly. “I just do the grocery shopping for them…. Well, actually I don’t. I just go eat.”
“Wow, it’s like you’re the son they failed to get rid of.” She laughed out as the man opened the wired barn gate and stepped aside, letting the through before stepping in as well and closing the gate, locking it as well.
“Well, I personally think they like the attention.” He shrugged, getting her to roll her eyes with a small smile.
“I’ll teach you how.” She nodded to herself as they stopped at the fence separating them from the cows. The man hurried over and thanked them for carrying it before taking the wheelbarrow over the fence and towards the waiting cows while Ace and Penelope leaned onto it, staring out at the cows walking towards he man. “Maybe you can stop leeching off the nice old couple.”
