Chapter 66

Jason clenched the handle of his suitcase tightly as he stared up at the mansion in front of him with extra suitcases behind him. Since Melanie had made it dead clear that the house had to be evacuated the same day, he had no choice but to move out and give the couple some space to move in freely.
The couple Melanie had promised the house to thanked Jason so much despite him meeting them so he could cut the deal. The guilty feeling of denying them refrained him from even attempting to say no and politely told then to wait until he packed up his things.
He wasn’t nervous because of the fact that he was staying in the alpha’s mansion, in fact, the beta had an option to stay in the mansion if he wanted, since it was well large enough to keep two families. But Emily was still young when he married Melanie and they wanted a little privacy to themselves to enjoy their marriage life.
So moving out was a good enough option.
But now, he was going back to it.
“Oh Jason!” Valentine’s voice beamed from somewhere in the dimming environment, only to appear at Jason’s side as he smacked his shoulder slightly with a chuckle. “Welcome. I heard from Melanie that you are planning to rent out the old house.”
“Yeah.” Jason chuckled, reaching a hand through his hair as he smiled sheepishly. “Since we sold out her parent’s house I can’t be stingy with mine, after all, I’m the one that even wanted the divorce so I could at least give her something to breath off of.” Valentine nodded with a small smile as he patted Jason’s shoulder and sighed out.
“This will make things a little more interesting for me. I haven’t had much to talk to anyone these days. I used to talk to Emily all night long but she seems so distance these past few weeks and I can’t really tell what’s wrong with her.” Valentine sighed out exasperatedly getting Jason to clench onto his jaw as he gazed towards the ground. Wondering if he should tell Emily’s father or not.
Valentine and Jason despite being nearly fifteen years apart had grown fond of each other to the point they were very good friends. Making Jason his beta was the best thing Valentine had ever thought of because Jason was already so determined and cautious. He always had good relationships with people and was a great adviser and a trustworthy man.
So Valentine didn’t really protest.
“Could you find out what’s wrong with her?” Valentine asked as he glanced down towards Jason to tensed up. “I need my daughter to feel free again, to talk like she used to and laugh st my jokes during dinner. Now she barely even listens to anyone and it’s getting me worried. Since you two are very close, you could get her to talk.” Valentine smiled as he patted Jason’s shoulder a bit. Getting him to bit onto his lower lip as he looked away from nervousness.
Noticing Jason’s sudden tense post, Valentine sighed out and ran a nervous hand through his hair as he withdrew his hand from Jason’s shoulder and brought it to his own waist, trying to figure out what he should even say.
“I know that you two… Shared a moment-”
“I really did not mean to go that far with your daughter and I swear, it was a mere…. Misunderstanding… I mean I was…. She…” He stammered as he glanced around awkwardly, failing to figure out a reason behind it.
“It’s fine, Jason.” Valentine frowned at how panicked Jason seemed to be. “Things happened and all we need to do is accept them. Neglecting them now will not change anything at all.” Jason frowned and glanced down towards the ground in guilt.
“Still, as a beta and a married man I overstepped my boundaries and ruined her first time… I know she deserved someone better.” Jason clenched his fists and sighed out shakily as he glanced up st Valentine who was still looking at him but with a muted expression.
“Someone better for her…” Valentine sighed out as he nodded and stroked his chin slightly. “Who do you think is good enough for her?”
“A man who… Someone her age, someone she would openly love and feel protected from. Someone who wouldn’t be afraid to show how much he loved her-”
“That’s based off of what you think is a good man for her.” Valentine interrupted him as Jason was explaining. “Emily doesn’t need someone else to tell her who the best man is for her. We’ll list all the good things but she’ll list the good and the bad so that when someone like that ever comes through, she knows how to handle the situation. If she failed with all other men her entire life and you happened to be the one she decided to open up to, then you were the better man for her.” Valentine explained, only getting Jason more uncomfortable. “As much as I hate to admit it, but my baby is all grown up and she can make her own decisions, especially if it comes to who she gets trapped in her web. She’s going to have to choose one way or the other. We can’t force her to be with someone we like. She might not feel the same way. That’s why I didn’t get upset or angry after I heard about you two. I knew she loved you and I was happy for her.”
Valentine explained but could only get Jason very nervous.
“As a married man I would never let you marry my daughter with another woman by your side. If you had children with Melanie, I would strictly disapprove of it because I would fear you would do the same to her. But you have neither of those things now.” Valentine sighed out as he pinched his forehead, getting a curious glance from Jason. “I feel the reason she has distanced herself from me and her mother is because something heavy is weighting her down. If it has to do with you, please fix it. Whether she still loves you and you don’t, please help her get over it. I need my angel back.” Valentine begged with his eyes and Jason nodded slowly. He smiled as Jason bit onto his lower lip and looked away. “Come on, get settled down. Well be having dinner soon.”
