Kelvin sighed out as he crossed his arms over his chest, watching Emily who stood in front of the reception desk and began to fill out her own form with shaky hands.
The sweat on her temple was clearly visible, clearly exposing his nervous she was at the moment. The same nervousness kind of rubbed off on the reception who couldn’t help but feel very uneasy around them as she watched the alpha’s daughter filling out a pregnant application test form.
The receptionist’s eyes darted towards Kelvin whose eyes were strictly glued towards the paper Emily was writing, though he wasn’t reading anything she was writing.
As a matter of fact, he was lost in his thoughts, wondering what to do with the situation.
He could lie about it and claim he was the father, but he would still know it doesn’t belong to him. He wouldn’t look at the child as his, since he knows fully it isn’t his. He would be living a lie.
Would he be happy with her?
Kelvin rose his eyes from the paper and towards Emily’s face, furrowing his brows as he asked the same question all over again.
It wasn’t as though he had strong feelings for her. As a matter of fact, he didn’t really like her enough to just suddenly become a father for a child that doesn’t belong to him.
He would have to marry her by force if he lied about it, and much sooner than he would want to.
The two so far had just been used to being around each other, just as friends since they hardly knew each other. Kelvin hadn’t attempted anything on her because he just didn’t feel like it.
Being rejected once, to him, was enough to force his interest on her to die down. It was clear she wasn’t interested, and like his father’s business genes, a bad business is a bad business and needs to be shut down. Just as a rejection is a rejection and needs to be accepted.
Just like his father, he believed once something goes bad, you need to leave it alone and turn to another possibility.
It was bad and good judgment to be frankly honest, but Kelvin was raised to think in that matter.
If nothing worked out, find another thing.
He pressed his lips together as he glanced towards the door large doors leading to the outside, still wondering how he should take the situation. He really didn’t want to marry someone who wouldn’t love him back. As greedy and arrogant as he may be, he also desired to have a mate of his own that loved him like he was her last drop of water under the blazing sun in a dessert.
“Are you okay?” Emily asked as she noticed Kelvin’s distant yet hesitating expression, getting her to frown a little as she though he’d be more encouraging in the situations.
“I’m fine.” He said, turning his eyes back to her as he watched her hand over the file to the receptionist. She received the file and stood up, leaving almost immediately as she walked into the double doors and disappeared from their sight. “How do you feel?”
“Scared…” She chuckled nervously, shoving the loose strands of hair to her ear. “Does this mean we’ll be forced to get married pretty soon…?” She asked, more of a whisper as she glanced down to her fingers with a deep frown.
Kelvin glanced around for a moment before sighing out, reaching his hand into his hair as she cleared his throat uncomfortably.
“Well, to be honest…” He trailed off for a moment, trying to pick the words right. “It’s possible…” He trailed off again, though this time he didn’t intend to continue, knowing they were both reluctant.
“Two weeks ago you were so determined to marry me.” She chuckled as she walked towards the waiting room and sat down on the leather seats, having Kelvin follow behind. “Lately it’s like you’ve just because a distant relative.” She chuckled out and he nodded with a small smile.
“I’m a person who doesn’t believe in ‘friends before lovers’.” He chuckled, folding his arms to his chest as he leaned back into the seat. “If I like someone, I want them to treat me as someone special, even at the first time we meet. Not just like everyone else, makes me instantly see them as just another addition to my friend collection.” He chuckled out once more, glancing at her. “I’m too used to being just someone you know now. This… This sudden news that you could be pregnant is a bit scary to me. I mean… If I have to lie that I’m responsible, it would make a lot of people happy but… As greedy as I am… I don’t want to live the rest of my life pretending to be in love with someone who likes someone else.”
She frowned as she glanced down at her palms. She couldn’t help but agree with him. She wouldn’t want that either. But he just had to accept it and the rest might follow naturally.
So she thought.
Her greatest fear was of everyone finding out that it belongs to Jason, ringing his life in that way would just be painful, even to her.
“But you’ll have to….” She trailed off, clenching her fingers into her fists as she tried to explain it properly. “I mean… You’ll have to… For the sake of Jason.”
He frowned at that and glanced away, knowing there was no way he wanted his wife to always remind him of another man.
“Emily, the doctor will see you now.” The receptionist smiled and Emily nodded as she stood up and glanced down to Kelvin who clenched his jaw uncomfortably, hardly glancing towards her.
“I’ll be back…” She whispered out but he didn’t respond. She pressed her lips together and walked towards the hall with the uncomfortable receptionist.
It wasn’t long until Emily came back, sitting back on the spot next to him as they waited for the results. Still, Kelvin failed to look at her even after the time passage. She couldn’t blame him, she could tell he was feeling annoyed and pressured.
“I’m sorry.” Emily sighed out, glancing towards Kelvin who looked at the other direction. Away from her. “At least your father will be happy… Right?”
“Don’t you care about me?” Kelvin asked as he glared towards her. “You think I don’t have feelings at all, do you?” He hissed, standing up forcedly before walking out of the lounge and out of the building.
Emily simply sighed out.
