“Um…” Emily cleared her throat as she glanced up Kelvin who smiled slightly and looked elsewhere, clearly not wanting to be in the conversation. “Did he tell you that?”
“Like I said. He did.” Melanie sighed out deeply with a slight roll of her eyes. “So how was he?”
“He was okay.” Emily blushed at the thought of last night, looking away as she recalled the feelings she had felt, the feeling of complete and pleasure mixed in with some happiness.
“You seem to blush a lot about him,” Melanie smirked out before turning her eyes towards Kelvin who frowned under her intense stare, a stare that was clearly mocking him internally and externally. “Kelvin, you failed didn’t you?” She chuckled out getting Kelvin to look away in boredom, knowing she was just going to mock him even more. “She was a virgin, don’t you know how to treat virgins Kelvin? You don’t force yourself on her like you did-”
“It wasn’t his fault…” Emily sighed out, running a hand through her hair as she glanced towards Kelvin who pinned he lips together, trying to contain his anger.
“It clearly is. A man failing to pursue a woman on her mating ceremony is extremely embarrassing if you ask me. You two were by far the youngest and oldest enough to mate together and because he’s a city boy he didn’t get it right.” She laughed out, as Kelvin clenched his jaw and tightened his fists as the overwhelming anger took a toll on him. She clearly wanted him to feel angry, to feel ashamed.
“I said it wasn’t his fault!” Emily yelled out this time, clenching her fists as she glared towards Melanie who immediately stopped laughing and raised her brows at her in shock. This was clearly the first time she had seen Emily get upset over anything in fact.
Emily was always the quiet type and always nodded her head to everything she was told, even if it was a lie, she would still smile and agree to your thoughts and decisions. She was very obedient and very angelic to say the least. Something Melanie wasn’t for sure. That’s what made her different from Emily. Emily was just too good and pure that being in the same room with her made her look purely evil. As though she was the nastiest person alive. But that was the problem, because Emily was too nice, Melanie was easily picked out as rude and inconsiderate. Emily was a white dot on a black canvas, whilst Melanie was a black dot on a white canvas, easily seen from all the whiteness, all the goodness. All her bad behaviors were easily highlighted when Emily was next to her.
Which infuriated her.
“If it’s not his, then who else?” Melanie asked with frown as she stared at Emily’s defensive eyes.
“It’s my fault.” Emily frowned as well and glanced down at her fingers. “Kelvin wasn’t too forceful at first, so I think I might have stressed him out when I told him I couldn’t do it.”
“Then why do it with Jason?” Kelvin asked as he clenched his jaw towards Emily, clearly still affected by her rejection. “I didn’t do anything scary, I didn’t say anything bad to you. We barely know each other so there was no way I made a mistake.”
“That’s the problem. We barely know each other.” Emily sighed out softly as she reconnected their eyes.
“You don’t need to know someone on your mating ceremony.” Kelvin said out breathlessly as he furrowed his brows at her. “I’m from the city. But at least I know that fact.”
“The thing is…” She trailed off as she felt her throat close up a little before she sighed out, shaking her head slightly. “I have trouble trusting people.”
“How can you trust someone without giving them a chance?” He asked as he fully turned to face her now. “You didn’t even give me a chance at all.”
“I thought you were okay with it?” Emily asked, wondering why he suddenly seemed too affected when he seemed just fine some minutes ago before the came here. It was as though a switch flicked inside of him.
“It’s because I got yelled at by my father last night for failing, then got insulted and teased by the other men I don’t even know. Every man kept laughing at how I failed just because I was from the city. They think I’m so foreign that I failed to be a true werewolf. I failed to find a mate, that’s why.” He explained with a deep frown on his lips, getting Emily to ease her shoulders at the pain on his face. He was clearly hurt by the words of his father and the other men, she could see it clearly. He was deeply hurt.
“I’m sorry, Kelvin.” She glanced down to her palm and sighed out, shutting her eyes for a moment before opening them once more. “I didn’t know you went through a lot.”
“At least give me a reason why Jason, a married man, was better than me.” He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned into the seat. “Even though you say it’s because he treats you nicely, there has to be a better reason why you rejected me right? And all the men you rejected before. Where you just waiting for Jason all this time?” He asked as he stared down at her uncomfortable gaze.
“I wasn’t waiting for Jason.” She sighed out as Melanie watched quietly from where she was sitting, surprised that these two had a lot going on that she had expected. “It’s a…. It’s just something from my past that keeps coming back at me. Whenever I’m about to mate with some stranger, it’s like I get reminded of what happened back then… The fear of being around someone I don’t trust scares me so much that I back away almost immediately. That’s why I couldn’t bring myself to sleep with you. It’s because of back then…” She frowned as she clenched her fists, trying to resist the tears.
