Chapter 1703 Made A Mark

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Francis was shocked. “Are you sure? Is there a mistake?”
“I’m not mistaken, I deliberately left a mark on the bottle when I gave it to Michael. I saw the exact same mark just now when I looked at it.”
“Why did the wine that was given to Michael end up with Casper? It must be a mistake!” Francis was very clear about the consequences, so he would rather believe that Frederick had made a mistake.
“Why don’t you ask Casper’s men where this wine came from?” Frederick had a very bad feeling in his heart. He wished that he was just mistaken, but he knew that he had seen it clearly.
Francis called Frederick’s personal bodyguard and asked, “Where did Casper buy this bottle of wine?”
The bodyguard was very clear about Casper’s every move and immediately replied, “He didn’t buy this wine, it was a gift from Michael.”
Francis’s eyes were wide in shock and his voice wavered. “Are… are you sure?”
“I’m sure. Michael invited Mr. Casper to dinner that day. Mr. Casper wanted to find ways to postpone the handover of the company, so Michael cleverly gifted a few bottles of expensive wine to him. Mr. Casper was very happy and told me that it was not easy to buy this wine because it was antique. Since Michael had gotten his hint, he didn’t continue to make things difficult for Michael anymore.”
Francis gasped heavily. “When did this happen exactly?!”
“It’s been a long time, let me try and recall it.” The bodyguard thought for a moment and said, “It should be on the 18th.”
The wine was prepared and given to Michael on the 15th, but he gifted it to Casper on the 18th. Since it was so coincidental, could Michael have known that the wine had been poisoned?
However, it was all done by Frederick himself. Michael was just an ordinary man, so how could he know about it?
Francis looked at Frederick with a furious gaze, which made Frederick explain frantically, “Sir, I didn’t collude with Michael. I have always been loyal to you!”
“What mistake did we make?” Francis roared in a low voice.
He also felt that Frederick would not betray him, but Michael’s behaviour was a clear sign that the latter had known about his schemes all along. Francis had only discussed the plot against Michael with Frederick and he did not reveal anything. If Frederick wasn’t the one who revealed it, who would it be?
Frederick also knew that he was the most suspicious culprit now. “Sir, could it be that Michael had been wary of us from the very beginning because he doesn’t trust us?”
“Even so, he shouldn’t have guessed that the wine had been drugged.” After Francis finished speaking, he suddenly remembered what Azalea had just told him.
Michael had targeted his grandson and his investment had also suffered a serious loss. What happened with Azalea was definitely not a coincidence as well, so was it all planned by Michael from the beginning? Michael had no intentions to cooperate with him at all, so he had been on guard against him.
Francis’ heart skipped a beat when he thought of Michael’s indifference to Azalea and his ruthlessness to her son. Could it be that Michael wasn’t the father of Azalea’s child?
If this guess was true, then the money he invested in…
Francis didn’t dare to think of the consequences because it would be unimaginable!
Francis felt so dizzy that his body swayed and he reached out to hold the wall for support.
Frederick immediately reached out to support Francis when he saw his pallid complexion. “Sir! What’s wrong with you?”
“I… I…”
Francis took a few deep breaths and said, “Call Michael immediately!”
Meanwhile, Michael was leaning back on the sofa with his legs crossed in Climax Space with a glass of red wine in his hand. He looked at William opposite him lazily and said, “Francis called me nearly a hundred times today, I’m so f*cking annoyed.”
William smiled and said, “What’s there to be annoyed about? Why don’t you put it on silent mode?”
“Yes, not only did he call me, but he sent me so many messages. He’s clearly panicking right now.”
“He’ll be even more anxious tomorrow. Hmm… but I’m sure he’ll already hit the roof tonight.” William glanced at his phone and smiled. “We’ve done so many good things for the Gurney family.”
Michael burst into laughter. “You’re so mean, how can this be considered a good thing? That old b*stard probably feels as though his world is crumbling now, right?”
“More or less, but I think he’ll probably want to go against you first. His daughter gave birth to another b*stard’s child and his grandson is completely infertile. The investment fund that he transferred to you is already at a 50 per cent loss. If I were in his shoes, you’ll probably be the first person I’ll kill!”
“Isn’t that why I’m hiding here? I’m terrified of him!” Although Michael said this, he didn’t look scared at all. Instead, he took a sip of wine and asked, “What time are you going to make your move tomorrow?”
“Let’s spread even more bad news about the Gurney family tomorrow morning and let all the investors know that they’re already in a mess. I’ll take action then,” William replied.
“What? I thought you were going to make a move tomorrow, but why are you still waiting?”
“I have a lot of money, so I’ll wait until his stocks crash before I buy the shares.”
“You’re so heartless! Aren’t those investors going to destroy the Gurney family?”
Michael’s phone rang again after he finished speaking, which made him sigh, “Francis’ housekeeper called.”
“It’s so late already, so why are they still so stubborn?” William stood up with a smile and said, “Go ahead. It’s getting late, I need to go back to spend time with my wife and children.”
He got up and took a few steps, but Michael stopped him. “Wait a minute! Something interesting just happened.”
“Hmm?” William turned to look at Michael.
“That b*stard sent a message to question me about Casper. F*ck, where did he get the nerve to question me? Didn’t he give me that wine himself? He’s probably gone mad!” Michael scolded angrily.
“He found out that he had fallen into your trap so soon? I thought it would take a few days.” William chuckled and said, “He should take responsibility for what he did, but he’s still conscious even after such a big thing happened. Well, his willpower is quite strong after all!”
Michael sneered. “I wanted to continue to ignore him. Since he knows about Casper, I have nothing to hide anymore so I might as well talk to him.”
“Okay, it’s up to you. I’ll go first!”
Bobby walked out as soon as William exited the room and entered the elevator with him.
Michael’s assistant entered the private room when he saw that William had left. Michael then motioned him to sit down and said, “That old b*stard already knows about Casper and he sent me a message to question me. If I don’t reply to him, he will definitely come to you. You can have a chat with him later.”
“Okay!” The assistant nodded with a smile. Michael said a few things to his assistant, but the latter’s phone rang before he could finish speaking. He glanced at it and said, “He’s calling me!”
