“I was pregnant with Michael’s child,” Josephine repeated.
Abbie felt as if her heart was breaking into pieces and she had difficulty breathing.
She had once decided to break up with Michael, but she couldn’t bear the heartbreak because she missed him too much. She gave up on that thought in the end because she couldn’t let him go.
She liked Michael so much. She knew that Richard and her parents were against it, but she still ignored all of them and stayed with him.
Abbie loved Michael so much and he should’ve fallen in love with her as well. But the woman in front of her said that she had a relationship with Michael and she was even pregnant with his child.
It was ridiculous! Abbie couldn’t accept it even if Michael slept with another woman, let alone if the woman was pregnant with his child.
“It can’t be true! This is impossible!” Abbie lost her sense of control.
“It’s true! Miss Clark, I don’t have any reason to lie to you anymore. Michael is not the kind of person you think he is and he is very despicable. He is very greedy in terms of relationships.”
Josephine would not give up at this point because she was still waiting for Azalea’s final payment.
“I know you can’t accept that Michael isn’t loyal. No woman would be upset if they loved someone so despicable and I understand your feelings. Of course, I am not a good person and I am also the cause of your amnesia. When Michael proposed to me and gave me the ring before this, I still didn’t dare to believe he was being genuine. I became bolder when I confirmed that I was pregnant and I thought that he liked me as well. At least he would give me a chance for the sake of my pregnancy.”
When Abbie heard Josephine’s nonsense, her heart ached so much that she couldn’t breathe. Naturally, she wasn’t in the right mind to carefully consider the authenticity of Josephine’s words.
Josephine looked at Abbie’s pale face and continued to talk nonsense. “He was very close to you at that time. I knew that he liked you and he was unwilling to let you go, but you never knew my existence. I wanted to expose the truth and tell you about my relationship with him. I know that someone as distinguished as you would break up with him if you found out, so I sent you a message to let you catch us in the act. I didn’t expect that you would choose to leave without saying a word when you saw us together and I didn’t expect that you would get into an accident. Miss Clark, I’m sorry!”
Josephine knelt down in front of Abbie as she spoke, but Abbie didn’t have much reaction. She let Josephine kneel on the ground and asked in a hoarse voice, “You said you were pregnant with his child, so where is your child now?”
“He changed after he found out that I was pregnant, especially after you had an accident. He was afraid that Richard would find out about my pregnancy, so he asked me to get an abortion.”
“So the child is gone?”
“No! The child is still alive!”
“What?” Abbie’s face was full of shock.
“Yes, my child is still alive. I sneaked away when he was about to send me to the hospital to get an abortion. I was afraid that Michael would find out, so I hid in the countryside and secretly gave birth in my friend’s apartment.” Josephine took out the photos that Azalea had prepared for her and handed them to Abbie. “Miss Clark, this is my child. Do you think he looks like Michael?”
Abbie couldn’t think straight after the matter took so many drastic turns. She looked at the child in the photo. The child’s facial features were like Michael’s, so was this really Michael’s child? Abbie was in so much pain that her body trembled.
Josephine continued to talk nonsense when she saw that Abbie was on the verge of collapse. “Miss Clark, I didn’t mean to disrupt your and Michael’s lives but I had no choice. My child is ill and he needs treatment, but I don’t have enough money. I just want to ask Michael for a sum of money to cure my child.”
Abbie took a few breaths and asked dryly, “Does Michael know about the child?”
“Yes, so he used the child to threaten me. He asked me to meet up with Richard to clear his name and deny my relationship with him. I wanted to save my child, so I promised him.”
Josephine had not told her any of this before, so Abbie immediately asked, “You promised him? In that case, why did you come to me to expose everything?”
Josephine wiped her tears. “Because… I overheard his conversation with his bodyguard. Michael wasn’t planning on saving my child at all. He said that he would kill me after I clarify this matter since Richard and you would believe that he was innocent. I don’t want to die and my child is still waiting for me to save him. I hate him for being so merciless to me! I want to get back at Michael since he’s so vicious to me, so I came to you!”
Her story was reasonable. Josephine was forced to do this because she had no choice.
However, Abbie couldn’t imagine that the man she liked would do something like this. He was heartless, vicious, and shameless!
In Abbie’s eyes, Michael was not such a person. He often accepted pro bono cases to help locals in the area for free. He even donated money to disaster victims, orphanages, and old folks’ homes.
If Michael was really so selfish and evil, he would never do so many kind favours. After all, no one asked him to do so many good deeds.
Abbie didn’t believe that her taste in men would be so bad and she really didn’t believe that Michael was such a person.
Abbie picked up her phone and said after taking a few deep breaths, “I want to ask him about this personally!”
“Miss Clark, you can’t!” Josephine immediately stopped her.
“Why not?”
“If you ask him, he will definitely know that I told you all this. Would I still have a way out?”
“Don’t worry. If Michael is as despicable as you said, I will protect you. I swear!”
Abbie’s eyes were completely red and she was stopping herself from crying. “I’ll pay for your child’s medical expenses as long as you’re not lying to me. I’ll make sure your child is safe and sound, and I’ll make sure you can live a proper life.”
Abbie was about to call Michael, which made Josephine panic. How could she let Abbie confirm Michael’s innocence?
How could she carry on her act if Mochael exposed her lies?
Moreover, she would die if Michael found out where she and Abbie were.
Josephine immediately went forward to grab Abbie’s mobile phone. Abbie was shocked by her sudden movement and subconsciously stepped back. Then, she slipped on the rocks and fell down.
