Veronica knew how disappointed Aurora would be if Ornard left now. She must be feeling so down now, wasn’t she?
She thought Ornard would do anything for the baby after knowing that he was going to die, but Veronica was wrong.
Ornard didn’t love anyone. The only person he loved was himself.
She pitied Aurora, as well as herself. He was such a cruel man, yet she was so foolish and willingly worked for him for so many years!
How dumb was she!
Ornard and Veronica went to a restaurant near the hospital. Ornard was really hungry. He wolfed down his food, so Veronica handed him a tissue with concern and said, “Eat slowly! How hungry are you?”
Ornard took a sip of water and complained, “I haven’t eaten anything except for drinking water since this morning. Of course I am hungry!”
“Why didn’t you eat then?”
“I was busy, okay? There’s many things going on in the company.”
A surprised expression appeared on Veronica’s face. “What’s wrong?”
When it came to the company, Ornard immediately fell into a bad mood. “The company is in a very bad situation now. The Floyd family has targeted us!”
“They are that cruel? Then what now?”
“I don’t know either! The Floyd family are not backing down and with the help of William, our company is quite doomed.”
Ornard said that on purpose after consideration. If there was no way out, he could only save his properties and wealth. Veronica would not easily let him go unless he made her think that he was not reliable anymore, and that he would go bankrupt anytime. Veronica would try to leave if she knew, and that would be a good thing for Ornard.
Veronica already knew what kind of person Ornard was and she didn’t believe a word of his. Since Ornard was acting like a fool, of course she had to play along. “Why don’t I talk to the Floyd family and ask them for help? Tell them that I don’t want anything from the divorce and ask them to let us off the hook.”
Hearing this, Ornard was stunned. Did she always gave him a spot in her heart, just like last time?
Ornard was touched, which was rare for him. “The Floyd family will not take you seriously!”
Veronica wished for that, but she had to keep up the act. “No matter what, we’ve gotta try at all cost.”
“Okay, then call the Floyd family.” Ornard did not want to give up. Although he knew that the Floyd family would not agree, he was still hopeful.
“Then I’ll make the call now.” Veronica called Callum in front of Ornard but the call did not go through. Then, she called Fandrey and Deborah but to no avail. It was clear that the Floyd family had already blocked her.
Ornard watched as Veronica made the calls. She then sighed and said, “The Floyd family isn’t answering my call, so it seems like we should talk to the lawyer. Should I call the lawyer then?”
Veronica spoke as she called the lawyer, who answered the call in a cold tone. “Miss, are you agreeing to sign the divorce papers?”
“I need you to help me send a message to Callum. I will agree to divorce, but he has to stop investigating the Laban family. As long as he agrees, I will sign the papers.”
The lawyer sneered and said, “Miss Veronica, I have no way to convey your request. To tell you the truth, you are no longer qualified to raise any conditions at this point. Take care of yourself!”
“Stupid Callum! He’s really that heartless!” Veronica hung up the call angrily. Although it was already clear that Callum would not agree to that, Ornard still felt uncomfortable with the facts.
A trace of disappointment flashed across his face. He stood up and said, “Veronica, you can go back first! I’ll go to the hospital again.”
“Why?”
“The child’s situation isn’t stable now, so I have to go and have a look. This is the least I could do for Gurmisran, right?”
“Okay then! Go ahead!” Veronica did not stop him.
Ornard heaved a sigh of relief and hurried back to the hospital. Aurora was sitting on a chair outside the ICU. Her eyes were empty as she stared at the door in a daze. Ornard then walked up to her without any reaction.
Ornard looked at Aurora and sighed. “Aurora!”
Hearing Ornard’s voice, she turned her head and stood up excitedly. “You didn’t leave with her? Why are you back here?”
“How could I leave? I was just hungry so I went to eat. Plus, I have to distract her away, right?”
Aurora believed Ornard and threw herself into his arms while crying.
Ornard let her cry for a while before he said, “Can you tell me how Santhos ended up like this?”
“I took him out today until night, and then we had dinner outside. He became this way only after a few minutes at home?”
Ornard frowned. “Nothing else happened?”
Aurora shook her head. “No, he had a good time in the amusement park during the day, and he ate a lot of dinner. When we went home, he was in a good mood all the way as well. When we got home, he played in his room as usual. I went out to get some water and came back to him this way.”
“That’s strange! It’s impossible for this to happen so suddenly! Something must have happened!”
“I think so too. I think something must have something to do with Veronica!” Aurora sat there and thought about everything. Except for Veronica, she really couldn’t find anyone else who would hurt the baby anymore.
“It must be that vicious and shameless woman who harmed the baby! She knew that he is our child, so she tried to harm him!”
Ornard’s expression turned serious. “Did Veronica come into contact with baby before this happened?”
Aurora shook her head and said, “Nope, but she’s the only one who would do that to baby!”
“Aurora, Veronica doesn’t know that baby is our son, so she has no reason to do so. Unless she came into contact with baby prior to this, or else she wouldn’t be the one.”
Aurora insisted on her thoughts. “That’s what you think. I don’t think she is oblivious to everything, and she must have found out from someone else! We can’t really keep a secret from the world, can we?”
“That’s true, but you have to have evidence, don’t you? You can’t draw such a conclusion just based on your imagination. Think about what happened to Santhos after he got home.”
“When I got home with him, Veronica was having dinner in the dining room. I greeted her and took him upstairs. Santhos wanted to solve the puzzle, so I asked him to sit on the ground and play. Then I gave him a piece of vitamin gummies. Later, I was thirsty, so I went downstairs to get some water. After a few words with her, I went back up and saw baby this way.”
“Vitamin gummies? Could that be the problem?”
Ornard stood up and said, “I’ll go back and have a look!”
