Chapter 1270 Marriage Gift

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Upon reaching the Floyd family’s mansion, Deborah went back to her room angrily. No one paid attention to Azalea, so she could only return to her room.
Azalea had not expected such a thing to happen today. She did not dare call Meadow to discuss something as embarrassing as this. If Meadow knew how she had fooled around with other men before, she would not possibly let her marry Michael.
As she couldn’t tell Meadow, nor could she tell Emily, Azalea was anxious as she couldn’t come up with a solution.
If she had known that such a thing would happen tonight, she would not have gone out.
Of course, she didn’t know that all of this was planned by William. Her heart was full of hatred towards the old man, Oscar Sloane, who embarrassed her, and she wished to tear him apart.
Azalea was in a bad mood, and so was Deborah. She went back to her bedroom and sat for a while before calling Fandrey. Fandrey answered the phone after some time, “What’s the matter?”
“Fandrey, I’m so angry I could die! I feel so embarrassed.” Deborah told Fandrey what had happened earlier on. Fandrey could tell that William was behind all this, but since Azalea wasn’t a child of the Floyd family, Fandrey wasn’t angry no matter what she did. “Alright, what’s there to be angry about?”
“How can I not be angry? I had high hopes for her, yet this is such a letdown. If I had known this would happen, I wouldn’t have let her move in.”
“Are you regretting it? Didn’t you feel pity for her? You even intended to give her a gift and forced Callum to me to do the same. Do you still want us to give her something?” Fandrey asked as he chuckled.
“You annoying old man. Are you mocking me?” Deborah asked in annoyance.
“I’m not mocking you. I’m just reminding you that at our age, we should think before we act. Don’t act impulsively like a young person.”
“I wasn’t being impulsive. I only felt sorry for her and didn’t expect she would have no self-respect. How shameful would it be if anyone finds out the daughter of the Floyd family is such a wretch? I can’t even imagine the consequences.”
“Don’t worry. Nobody would find out about this. William will handle it. Let me remind you, please don’t have any sympathy anymore. The strong don’t need pity! The children of the Floyd family should rely on their own strength to achieve their goals. They should not be relying on their elders’ protection and not work for it.”
Deborah didn’t know what else to say. “I understand. I’ll be careful in the future. Hey, when will you be back?”
“I have something to attend to. I’ll come home quite late at night. You don’t have to worry about me.”
The car stopped as Fandrey was talking. Sammuel got out of the car and opened the door. Fandrey hung up the phone and got out with a smile. “I wonder if my granddaughter is here already.”
“I saw Ms. Saunders’ car.” Sammuel pointed to a car not far away.
“Then let’s hurry up and go in. Don’t let her wait too long!”
Sammuel accompanied Fandrey into a private room. When Fandrey saw Braelynn, he looked apologetic. “Did you wait for long?”
“No, I’ve only arrived not too long ago.” Braelynn was still aloof.
“Grandpa bought tickets for a famous opera show today. After dinner, let’s watch the show.”
Braelynn looked at Fandrey in surprise. She didn’t expect Fandrey to find out that she enjoyed watching opera shows. That’s something.
Fandrey continued smiling. “Your grandma and I like watching opera shows as well. So does your dad. Now that you also like it, the whole family would be opera enthusiasts.”
Braelynn gave a slight smile and changed the topic. “I’ve already ordered the dishes. You treated me to dinner last time. Let me treat you this time!”
“Okay!” Fandrey nodded in agreement. “I’ll treat you to dinner next time.”
“It’s fine. I don’t like eating out. I’m used to cooking at home.” Braelynn refused straight up.
“Then could I go to your house and cook for you in the future?”
Braelynn paused for a moment and looked at Fandrey suspiciously. “You can cook?”
“Of course. When I was young, I learned how to cook to pursue your grandma. Your grandma married me willingly because of my cooking.”
Braelynn didn’t expect Fandrey to tell her about his past. She didn’t want to be involved, nor was she interested. But she couldn’t bring herself to refuse him after seeing the affection in her eyes. So Braelynn picked up her cup and took a sip of tea. “Let’s talk about it later!”
“Okay, let’s talk about me cooking for you later. Let’s eat first, and then we’ll go to watch the opera!”
After dinner, Fandrey and Braelynn walked out of the private room and bumped into Paisley in the corridor.
Seeing Fandrey and Braelynn together, Paisley was astonished.
Fandrey and Braelynn saw Paisley too. Braelynn glanced at Paisley, and her expressionless face turned into a smile as she said in a polite tone, “Mr. Floyd, then that’s settled. I’ll visit you at the company tomorrow.”
Fandrey knew that Braelynn said that because of Paisley. So he immediately nodded and said, “Alright. I’ll be waiting for your visit!”
Paisley heard the conversation between Braelynn and Fandrey. Were they talking about a collaboration?
She stepped aside and watched as Braelynn and Fandrey left one after the other.
Paisley thought for a moment before entering a private room. Gurmisran had been waiting for Paisley for a while. As Paisley walked in, he immediately greeted her. “Ms. Anthony, you’re here!”
“Ms. Anthony?” Paisley looked at Gurmisran coldly. “Mr. Knight, I’m married. My legal husband is Ornard!”
Gurmisran had to rephrase his words. “Hello, Mrs. Laban! Please have a seat!”
Paisley sat down with a straight face. “What’s your intention of inviting me here?”
It was obvious that Paisley didn’t want to meet Gurmisran, so he coughed awkwardly. “Regarding what happened last time, Mr. Laban asked me to give you an explanation.”
Paisley’s expression did not change. “Is that so? What’s the explanation?”
“Mr. Laban knew that he had done you wrong, so he specially asked me to bring this to you.” Gurmisran knew it was not easy to fool Paisley, so he opened his briefcase and took out a stock share contract. “Mrs. Laban, take a look at this.”
Paisley picked up the contract and read it through carefully. The corners of her mouth lifted slightly. “He is giving me one percent of his company’s shares?”
After discussing with Ornard, they decided to give Paisley some shares to keep her mouth shut. Both of them thought that Paisley would be satisfied with this. “Yes. Mr. Laban said that this is his marriage gift to you.”
“Marriage gift?” Paisley threw the contract on the coffee table, and leaned back with her eyes filled with contempt. “Is Angel’s identity worth this little to Mr. Laban?”
