Paisley laughed and said, “He’s so heartless! He can’t wait for the divorce, can he?”
Gurmisran’s voice was cold. “Ms. Anthony, you should know why Mr. Laban married you. Since you were the one who screwed things up, you should take the initiative to back out. Everyone will be happy then!”
“What if I don’t back out?” Paisley asked, “How is Mr. Laban planning to deal with me?”
“Ms. Anthony, you’re all mature people, and we should do things according to the rules. The losers are always in the wrong. You should be clear on the reason you married Mr. Laban back then. There is no relationship between you two, only benefits. Since there are no good prospects of gain anymore, why do you want to be entangled with Mr. Laban?”
“You’re right! Indeed, there’s no reason for me to be entangled with him, but I’m not contented! I am also an esteemed young lady of a prestigious household. I would surely feel discontented as I am thrown away like a rag by Mr. Laban as he pleased.”
“Tell me what conditions you have!” Gurmisran knew that Paisley knew some of Ornard’s secrets, so he did not intend to push her into a corner.
As long as Paisley’s requests were in moderation, Ornard would be willing to comply.
“My condition is actually pretty simple. Ask Mr. Laban to find a way to get my brother out! Can he do it?”
“That’s impossible! Your brother has offended William and is being watched closely. It’s not easy for him to get on medical parole or have his sentence reduced. Ms. Anthony, please make another request.”
“Is that so? There’s a saying that when there’s a will, there’s a way. Could it be Mr. Laban never wanted to help my brother in the first place?”
Gurmisran had no patience to argue with Paisley. He said impatiently, “Ms. Anthony, hurry up and make another request. I have something else to do, and I don’t have time to waste!”
“That’s fine! I won’t waste any more of your time then, Mr. Knight. I don’t have any other requests. I only need you to tell your superior to beware of the Floyd family. Since his scheme of twenty years must not come to waste.”
“What do you mean?” Gurmisran’s heart dropped. Was Paisley hinting that she knew something?
That would be impossible since he personally carried out the task. Paisley was only born then. How did she find out about it?
“It’s literary what I said. Your superior has the foresight and is pretty great. I admire him for setting up the plot even from twenty years ago. Honestly, I don’t have the capability like him. We can still be friends even if we can’t be a couple. Let us part ways with good cheer. I can afford to let him go. I hope he can succeed in obtaining the Floyd family’s fortune and be even more successful!”
Gurmisran immediately understood what Paisley meant. He did not say anything further and hung up the phone. Then he called Ornard, “Mr. Laban, Paisley knows of your plan!”
Ornard asked in disbelief, “Are you sure?”
“I’m sure!” Gurmisran told Ornard what Paisley had told him, and Ornard’s face was livid. “How is this possible? How did Paisley know about this? I can’t wait to get my hands on that treacherous thing…”
Ornard wanted to tear Paisley apart, but it was his wishful thinking. Gurmisran reminded him, “Mr. Laban, if Paisley knows about Ms. Floyd, we cannot treat her the same anymore. We have to change our plans.”
“I know we need to change the plan. What do you think we should do?”
Ornard asked Gurmisran for his opinion unexpectedly. So Gurmisran could only express his thoughts honestly, “There are two ways to this. It’s either we kill her to save us any future trouble, or we keep to the current status.”
Ornard was silent for a moment. “Since she dared to be straightforward about this, she surely has a backup plan. If I kill her and her backup plan is in motion, I would lose everything. So it’s impractical to kill her. We could only maintain the current status.”
“Mr. Laban, you have to think through this. If so, you will be control by Paisley in the future.”
“I know. What else can I do in this situation? I have to wait for the matter with the Floyd family to be settled first.” Ornard felt powerless. “Now there are so many issues happening and at the same time. Angel’s pregnancy is not going as planned, and Paisley has found out about Angel’s identity. It looks like it would take a long time before we could achieve our goal.”
“More than twenty years have passed. A little while more wouldn’t be a big deal. Please bear with it Mr. Laban!”
Ornard did not know what else he could do. “We will only have to endure it. Since Paisley has something on me, I’ll leave the city’s reconstruction to her.”
“Mr. Laban, how are you going to deal with the city’s reconstruction?”
“The city’s reconstruction is a mess I don’t want to keep. I can’t make any profits if I continue it, and the company’s development will be hindered if I spend too large a sum of money. So I plan to get Paisley to put up the project and find someone else to take over.”
“That’s a good idea! But in this situation, there won’t be too many people willing to take over. There are only a few who can take up such a large project. I’m worried that the price will be suppressed.”
“I have to put it up even if the price is low. With the situation the company is in now, we can’t afford to drag this any longer. The bank’s interest is not to be taken lightly. The longer this drags on, the more we will lose. We should salvage the loss in time.”
Since Ornard has decided, Gurmisran didn’t try to persuade him anymore. In fact, he was anxious as well because he still couldn’t put together the money he had embezzled from Ornard’s account. Although Ornard had not realized that there was something wrong, it didn’t mean he wouldn’t realize it soon. Gurmisran had to find a way to settle this matter.
Callum came to visit Azalea in the evening. When she saw Callum visiting with fruits, flowers, and snacks, Azalea called him dad excitedly.
Hearing this, Callum felt strange. He suppressed the strange feeling and nodded. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine!” Azalea replied and invited Callum to sit enthusiastically. “Dad, sit! Do you want some water?”
“No, thank you!”
Callum shook his head and then looked at Emily, who was sitting on the sofa. Emily didn’t look too good, so he asked her, “Emily, you don’t look too good. You must be pretty tired after staying here and taking care of Azalea for a few days? Why not you go home and rest, and I’ll send two people here to the hospital to take care of Azalea?”
“I’m not tired!” Emily shook her head. “The doctor said that Azalea is recovering well. She can be discharged from the hospital tomorrow!”
When Callum heard that Azalea would be discharged from the hospital tomorrow, his expression stiffened. Before he came, Deborah had pulled him aside and talked to him for quite a while. Her words meant that Azalea must not stay by herself anymore after being discharged from the hospital. She wanted Azalea to move into the Floyd family’s mansion and live together with the family.
Callum felt a little strange when he saw Azalea. He didn’t feel like a father wanting to reunite with his daughter at all. Instead, he felt awkward.
However, Deborah had already spoken, and Fandrey didn’t oppose it as well. Azalea would surely move back with the Floyd family after being discharged. This would make it easier for him to reunite with Emily too.
Thinking of this, Callum said, “Then be discharged from the hospital tomorrow! When I came out of the house, my mother told me to ask Azalea to move in with us after being discharged.”
