Chapter 1170 You Deserved It

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Emily was feeling furious. Azalea was intimidated and dared not to hide anything from her, “I… I did not say anything earth-shattering in particular as it was purely just about the secret relationship between Abbie and Michael. I have lightly touched on this topic as Helen had asked me about it. I did not expect Helen to go physical on Abbie. I would never comment a single word should I know about it in advance.”
“You badmouthed Abbie first and caused her to be beaten up by her mother. She then came to seek revenge on you, right? Don’t you think that this is the consequences you have to bear?” Emily laughed sarcastically.
A pitiful person must have a detestable behavior within them. Emily finally knew that Azalea was the culprit behind this chaos. She was so angry until she was out of words.
Azalea knew that the plan for Emily to take her side was going down the drain judging by her facial expression.
She refused to call it quits and decided to point fingers at Angel, “Me badmouthing Abbie was not the sole reason why she had laid a finger on me. Angel should bear the core responsibility for this mess as I was beaten up because of her. Emily, I should let you know that Angel has feelings towards Richard and intends to marry him. She sought help from me to have a meetup session with Helen. I decided to lend her a helping hand given that Angel is your daughter. How could I possibly know that Abbie despises Angel so much?”
“Why would you meddle into the affairs of others when your life is equally a mess? Are you that free?” Emily did not soften up despite Azalea bringing Angel into the picture.
“My schedule is packed that is for sure. I was very attentive towards Angel as she is your daughter. Angel and I are nevertheless cousins, right?”
“What? You treat Angel like family. However, are you assuming that she has treated you the same? Do wake up to reality! Angel has surely deemed you as a useless piece of shit!”
“Emily! How could you criticize me in such a manner? I am aware of the fact that I was born poor whereas Angel had a silver spoon in her mouth since young. Can’t you see that I was being nice to her because of you? Why would you insult me like this?” Azalea was so angry that she started crying her lungs out again.
Emily looked at Azalea coldly and said, “I am just giving you a heads-up instead of offending you! Angel does not give a damn should you be friendly with her. She feels content as there are many of them in the Floyd family who would treat her well and you are not that important to her. Your priority is to humbly live your life and focus on yourself. It is useless for you to please her. Do not mention a word about her and Richard ever again! Do you hear me?”
“It was not my intention either as Angel was the one who had brought the topic up. How can I turn a blind eye towards her when she needed my assistance?”
“Are you very close with Richard? Are you that friendly with Helen? Or are you an important figure in the Clark family? As far as I am concerned, Richard is not a fan of you whereas Helen is just being polite to you. What bargain power do you have in persuading Helen to agree with Richard dating Angel judging by current circumstances? Besides, what is Angel able to offer in being a compatible partner with Richard? Are you sure that Richard would be attracted towards Angel judging by that bad temper of hers? Are you assuming that the Clark family is out of their minds?”
Azalea was stunned by Emily’s words. Was there a possibility that Azalea had misunderstood her?
Emily was not interested in the things that involved Angel. She did not adore Angel and had instead seemed to be disliking her. Why was that?
The following scene had occurred in the hospital. Lucian finally regained her consciousness after being in a coma for many hours.
She opened her eyes with a blank expression on her face. She vacantly stared at the ceiling for a long time as she was still not fully awake yet.
A doctor’s voice was soon being heard, “Miss Barnbook! Can you hear me?”
Lucian slowly turned to look at the doctor and replied, “What happened…”
“You were being met in a serious car accident. That was the reason that you have been in a coma for two days.”
“A car accident?” Lucian then recalled the car accident scene in her mind.
She was seated in the car and a heavy-duty vehicle madly charged towards her direction. She had then experienced a moment of blankness and the agony feeling before the coma struck. The despair of helplessness which all were the kind of pain that was too much to handle.
Lucian opened her mouth but she couldn’t say anything.
The doctor then said to Lucian, “You were severely injured because of the accident. However, you were lucky enough that William had arranged for the best specialist in handling your operation. Your daughter is one of the family members of the Howard family, isn’t she? By the way, she has been lingering around the hospital for the past two days just to get posted on your latest updates. She was very worried about you and kept asking me when you would regain your consciousness.”
“My daughter? Braelynn! Where is she?” Lucian asked.
“Do you want to meet with her? Don’t worry as I will notify her once I run a basic checkup on you. Ms. Saunders will be overjoyed upon knowing that you have woken up.”
The doctor examined Lucian and proceeded to contact her family members. They were finally allowed to make a trip to the ICU section to pay Lucian a visit.
Braelynn put on sterile clothing and went into the ICU ward. She was so excited that her eyes went watery upon seeing Lucian finally regaining her consciousness. “Mummy! You are finally awake! I was so worried about you!”
Lucian felt that time had passed by so quickly upon seeing Braelynn. She struggled to raise her hand as she wanted to hold Braelynn. Her arms had no strength as she had just woken up not long ago. She eventually brushed off that idea and placed her arm down after trying to lift it up for a little while.
Braelynn squatted at the bedside and reached out to grab Lucian’s hand. She then placed Lucian’s arm on her face and gave her a smile. Tears rolled down from the corner of Lucian’s eye as she felt the warmth on her face. She said in a fragile voice, “Braelynn, you have lost weight!”
Lucian was very genuine upon saying it. She did not truly adore Braelynn last time as she was merely taking advantage of her.
However, things were different at this moment. Lucian, who had experienced the moment between life and death, was extremely grateful that she had saved Braelynn last time.
It was no longer important regarding the reason why Lucian would end up raising Braelynn. Lucian, at the very least, never abuse Braelynn before ever since she was little. She was a rather satisfactory adoptive mother despite not treating Braelynn as kind as one biological mother would do so.
There was a saying that you reap what you sow. Braelynn had been so caring towards her. This was a rather pleasing reward for Lucian to save her in the past. William would not be so attentive towards Lucian when she was caught in a car accident compared to Braelynn. There would be no huge impact on William should Lucian be unable to make it, right?
The following scene had occurred in the clubhouse located at the city center. Hollis and his assistant, who was arranged by Gurmisran in negotiating for a financial agreement, were late for their appointment.
The assistant lowered his voice while making their way through the corridor. “Mr. Penham, do you think that the mutual agreement later would commence smoothly?”
“It most probably will! The reputation of Monroe is somewhat bad and Gurmit had told me lots of his dirty secrets. Monroe would not be daring enough to be cocky as we have the triumph cards with us.”
“That is a relief to hear!” The eyelids of the assistant had been twitching while making his way here. His gut feeling told him that things would not go so well for today. However, he felt that he had been overthinking stuff upon seeing the calm look on Hollis’s face.
The private room where they would be having their appointment was right in front of them. The assistant paced forward and pushed the door open.
They were able to notice the grey-haired Monroe who was already in the private room. He was lazily lying on the sofa with an old-fashioned tobacco pipe in his hand.
Monroe’s posture did not change at all despite noticing that Hollis had come into the private room alongside his assistant. He still continued to sit nonchalantly on the sofa.
Hollis adjusted his glasses and proceeded to enter the private room with his assistant. There was neither anyone who greeted them in the room nor any waiters to serve them beverages. The atmosphere seemed bizarre. The assistant took a peek at Hollis as he felt a little uneasy.
Hollis was rather calm as he had been in the business for so many years. He did not feel distressed even though there was no one who was being attentive towards them. He then brought his assistant in finding a place to have a seat. He had specifically chosen to sit opposite Monroe, who was still lazily seated on the sofa.
The assistant placed the briefcase that was in his hand on the tea table. Monroe, who was casually sitting on the sofa, finally asked in a hoarse voice, “I heard that your deal is priced at five hundred million?”
