Bobby called someone who had been keeping watch on Lucian. “Lucian was in a car accident today. What’s going on?”
“Bobby, I was just about to report this to you. It was a little strange. The truck came from the opposite side of the road and ran directly into Lucian’s car. The driver then cried in front of the police and said that he had stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes by accident. I observed what happened at the scene and felt that the collision was a little strange. When the driver hit Lucian’s car, he not only mistook the gas pedals with the brakes, but he also turned the steering wheel as if he was aiming Lucian’s car.”
“Is that so?”
“That’s right. With such a big truck, Lucian would have been crushed if she had a head-on collision! But she made it out alive because the point of impact was from behind. I thought that Lucian would definitely die, but I didn’t expect that she was so lucky and she got sent to the hospital as she had serious injuries.”
Bobby replied, “Go to the hospital and keep an eye on her. Contact me if there’s anything else.”
Bobby hung up the phone and told William exactly what he had heard. William chuckled and said, “Investigate the driver! Check if it’s really a mistake or if it’s something else.”
Braelynn waited outside the operating room for more than ten minutes before Lamont arrived. “Braelynn! How’s your mother?”
“She’s still in the operating room! Dad, I’m very worried…” Braelynn’s strong front had been brought down as soon as she saw he father and her eyes were teary.
Lamont stretched out his hand and patted her on the shoulder. “Don’t worry, nothing will happen. I’ll call President Saunders and ask him to arrange a few specialists to treat your mother.”
“No need. I just called William and he promised to arrange for a doctor to come over.”
“That’s good! I’m sure fate is on our side and your mother will be fine!” Although he despised Lucian’s behaviour, he still didn’t want her to lose her life. Lamont comforted Braelynn softly.
After talking for a while, several doctors in white coats hurried over.
They were all experts in their field. Lucian had a car accident and her leg was hurt. Five ribs on the lower left side of her chest were broken and her liver was damaged. A few specialists were in charge of her and they took eight hours to complete the operation.
Lucian was transferred to the ICU for observation after the operation. The ICU ward was taken care of by a specialist and Braelynn couldn’t be of much help even if she stayed in the hospital, so Lamont brought her home.
Natalie and Archer were waiting for news at home. When Lamont and Braelynn came back, they asked about the situation.
Natalie felt upset when she heard that Lucian was still in the ICU. Although Lucian had done some bad things, she was not evil and she had treated Natalie well. She comforted Braelynn. “Your mother will get better! You don’t have to worry too much.”
Braelynn was still worried. She had no appetite for dinner, so she just took a few bites before she went back to the room.
When Natalie saw Braelynn like this, she got worried and brought a fruit salad to Braelynn’s room.
“Braelynn, don’t worry. Things will get better. We will be with you and we’ll get over this together.”
“Thank you, auntie!” Ever since Hayden recognized Braelynn as his daughter, she changed the way she addressed Natalie and Archer. She no longer addressed her as President Garcia, but she called her Auntie instead.
“I made this myself. Try it.”
Braelynn had no appetite, but she took the salad and forced herself to eat it.
Natalie touched her head. “Don’t worry too much. Your mother will get better and I can accompany you to the hospital tomorrow.”
“Okay! Thank you, auntie!”
After Natalie closed the door and left, Richard also called to ask about the situation and comforted Braelynn.
Braelynn felt a little better after so many people showed concern and comforted her.
She hoped that Lucian would be alright and that her mother would make it.
After Gurmisran arranged for some people to send Lucian into the hospital, he hired a few vicious men to ambush Braelynn in the hospital.
Lucian was in ICU, so Braelynn didn’t have to sleep with her and Lamont brought her home. The men didn’t dare to do anything to her since Lamont was around, so they called Gurmisran and said, “We can’t do anything today. Someone is following us, so we have to wait until tomorrow.”
Gurmisran agreed and said, “Alright then. Remember to leave as soon as possible after you take action. I’ve already arranged the path of retreat.”
This was a matter of life and death, so they knew that they could not stay for long. “I know. We’ll leave right away, but I hope you’ll be quick about the money.”
“It’s not the first time I’m cooperating with you. Have I ever failed to pay you? Don’t worry! I’ll pay part of the deposit first and the rest will be immediately banked in after it’s done, but there’s one thing I must make clear to you. If you don’t settle everything cleanly, you have to bear the consequences yourself according to the rules. Can you do that?”
“We’ve been in this business for so many years and we’ll never frame our employer. Rest assured, Mr. Knight. This will have nothing to do with you and we’ll bear the responsibility for whatever happens.”
They had reached an agreement that everything was foolproof. However, they did not expect that they would make a mistake and one of the spies under William managed to identify one of the thugs.
The people around him immediately called Bobby to report the situation. “Bobby, I saw Mad Hatter on the street in the hospital parking lot.”
Bobby was surprised. “What? Isn’t Mad Hatter a vicious thug?”
“Yes, it’s him! I was in the parking lot and their car is not far from mine. I accidentally recognized them.” The man who tailed them took a breath. “I have been observing their movements. These people are on the lookout and they haven’t made any movements. They have been very quiet until Braelynn and Lamont came out. After that, the Mad Hatter stared at Braelynn and Lamont for a while before he left.”
“Alright! It’s been hard on you!” Bobby hung up the phone and reported everything to William. “The Mad Hatter could not have appeared in the parking lot for no reason and he must have had a target. The people who were watching him said that he had stared at Ms. Saunders and Lamont. Could he be targeting Ms. Saunders?”
William pondered for a moment. “There’s such a possibility! Is he a good fighter?”
“That’s right. His actions are savage and he rarely failed,” Bobby replied.
“Ask Silas to follow Braelynn! Arrange a few more skilled guards to look after her as well.”
“Okay, I’ll do it now!”
William stopped Bobby once again, “Is the driver of the accident at the police station now?”
Bobby nodded. “Yes, he’s being questioned now.”
William ordered, “Find a way to keep him there for a few more hours to see if we can get some useful information. Investigate him as well.”
Valeria opened the study door with a glass of juice in her hand when she heard William and Bobby’s conversation. “Who are you investigating again?”
