“Are you desperate to know about it?” William glanced at Richard with a faint smile on his face. Richard nodded and waited for him to spill the beans. However, William had leaned back instead and queried, “Why should I tell you?”
“Does this mean that you have no idea about it?” Richard tried to provoke him by saying, “Let’s end this topic if you are unaware of this matter. We shall assume that I did not ask you about it.”
“Who says that I was not kept in the loop? I am well aware of it but I am currently not in the mood to fill you in.”
Richard was interested upon hearing about it and replied, “You are just talking big, arent you? I will allow you to slap me in the face should you really know about it.”
“I’m not interested in going rough on you and I would prefer you to offer something valuable to me instead. I am a boring person as I am only interested in material possessions.”
Richard was utterly agitated upon hearing his reply and said, “What do you want from me again? William, I shall remind you to not take advantage of me in such a shameless manner! Aren’t you aware that you have schemed countless items from me? Do you even treat me as your friend? You should clear off the shopping list yourself since you are so wealthy!”
William burst into laughter and said, “Why are you in such a rush? Since when did I demand stuff from you?”
“I have familiarised myself with that expression of yours. I know that you are up to no good with that judging by your cunning look. I should remind you that Braelynn has already put her guard up towards you. Are you still planning to deceive me? Well, in your dreams!”
William let out a forceful cough and filled up Richard’s wine glass. “Alright, don’t lose your cool. I’ll spill the beans without asking for anything in return, okay?”
Richard did not buy into William’s sudden kindness and continued to observe him with a doubtful look. William brushed his chin and smiled before voicing his opinion, “I guess Madelyn had chosen in meeting up with my uncle to talk about Angel.”
“What? You are just messing with me, aren’t you?”
“I would never goof around when it comes to serious matters. Aren’t you aware that my grandfather had given instruction for his men to purchase a villa in the country? I speculate that Madelyn is hoping to get closer with Angel.”
“Don’t you think that you are being absolutely ridiculous? What bargaining power does Madelyn currently have? How could she have the guts to request such a thing to your uncle?” Richard outright denied his hypothesis.
William chuckled and reminded him, “Have you forgotten about the incident involving Braelynn? She is the daughter of my uncle and Emily. My grandparents had arranged for someone to take her away but she did not end up residing in the Floyd family. She was brought up elsewhere instead. Don’t you think that…”
“Are you saying that Madelyn had swapped her daughter with Braelynn? What about Azalea then?”
“It’s a long story. My point is that Madelyn chose to meet up with my uncle for the sake of Angel. She has deemed Angel as her daughter and she is indeed a wicked person. Based on my opinion, Madelyn must have ulterior motives in mind upon having an appointment with my uncle. She must be trying to deceive him by using Emily as an excuse.”
The following scene had occurred in the private room of the tea house. Callum glanced at Madelyn sternly and asked, “What is it that you would like to discuss with me?”
“Well, Mr. Floyd, I was hoping that you could do me a favor.” Madelyn went back home and was lost in her thoughts for a while. She was eventually being convinced by Meadow’s feasible idea. The only way out for her was to seek Callum’s help. Hence, she came all the way from Misurton to meet with him in hopes to achieve her objective.
“Mr. Floyd, I came to know that you are interested in hiring a servant since you would be residing in B CIty for the long term. I am keen on this job by serving the Floyd family well.”
“What? Why would you be interested in this position?” Callum’s expression remained indifferent and his voice was still as cold as ice.
“I would like to take good care of Angel,” Madelyn replied.
“Are you sure about that?” Callum queried with an unfriendly expression on his face.
“Yes, of course. Mr. Floyd, I hope that you can calm down and let me finish my words.” Madelyn swiftly elaborated, “I decided to work as a servant for the Floyd family to ensure the needs and wants of Angel would be satisfied. This is all for the sake of my sister.”
Callum remained silent. He did not believe a single word from Madelyn as he despised her very much.
Madelyn knew what was he thinking but continued to persuade him, “My sister has been separated from Angel, her daughter, for so many years. She is genuinely very heartbroken about it. She hides her emotion well as she is a strong and independent woman. I can feel that she misses Angel dearly but chooses to keep things to herself.”
Callum glanced at Madelyn with a doubtful look on his face and queried, “Are you sure that she has been hoping to bond with Angel all this while?”
Callum had squeezed out his time to bring Angel in meeting with Emily last time. He was hoping for them to reunite with each other.
Emily was very distant towards Angel and there was not a trace of reconnecting with her daughter during that time. However, he was currently being told that Emily had been thinking about Angel deep down in her heart. Wasn’t this rather peculiar?
“Of course! My sister had been missing Angel all these years. There is no doubt that a mother would adore her child very much, right?” Madelyn was aware that Emily did not pay much attention to Angel. However, she had to convince Callum that Emily was desperately hoping to have a glimpse of Angel’s life. It was the only chance that Madelyn had to be a part of the Floyd family.
“Mr. Floyd, I’m sure you do know that my sister and I are not biological sisters. However, Emily has always been a very kind person. She took care of me and Azalea, my daughter. It is always a good habit of stepping into one’s shoes. I am incapable of repaying my sister’s effort but I do not wish in seeing her suffering in silence. I eventually made up my mind in being hired as the servant of the Floyd family in taking care of Angel. The reason is that I would like to know more about Angel’s daily life for the sake of my sister. I can then tell my sister about her daughter’s wellbeing every single day.”
“Is this the exact reason why you are so keen on being hired as our servant? Isn’t this too absurd?” Callum was still feeling skeptical and continued speaking, “I don’t see any problem for your sister in meeting with Angel. I will never get in her way and have no objection to letting them reunite with each other. There is no need to make such a huge fuss about it!”
“Mr. Floyd, my sister is an old-fashioned person. She wants to do it but the current situation does not allow her to act rashly as you have a family. Besides, both your wife and your parents do not treat my sister in a friendly manner. Emily chooses to hide her emotion as she does not want to be criticized by others. Hence, I came to get ahold of you without her knowledge. Do you understand what I am trying to say?”
Madelyn lied through her teeth like a professional. Callum knew the character of Emily and it corresponded with Madelyn’s words. Emy was a compassionate person and would always lend a helping hand even towards strangers. How could she not miss her daughter dearly?
Emily must have adored Angel deep down in her heart. However, she had no choice but to conceal her emotion well.
Madelyn seized the opportunity to strike while the iron was hot upon seeing the calmer expression on his face. “Mr. Floyd, you can rest assured as my sister and I do not share the same family name. I will not tell a single soul about me being hired as a servant in your household. I will also never reveal the relationship between me and my sister. I swear to God! Azalea would die a horrible death should I let my lip loose!”
Callum did not have a good impression of Madelyn. However, he was taken aback upon seeing her making a promise with her daughter on the line.
One who would repent from the past mistake was worth being praised. Madelyn used to be very cunning but she might have changed for the better since twenty years had passed by. After all, a decent human being should show compassion towards others. It was logical for her to repay the favor of Emily after taking such great care of Madelyn and her daughter.
“Alright, I shall believe in you then! I will come up with something in letting you take care of Angel.”
Madelyn heaved a sigh of relief upon receiving the green light from him. She was feeling excited as she was finally able in getting closer to her daughter. God was kind enough to not let her previous effort get washed down the drain.
