The news of Hayden holding a grand banquet to welcome his goddaughter into the family was well-known amongst the public.
The Floyd family also paid attention to it. Although Angel was happy that Azalea’s matter was suppressed, Braelynn was also someone she hated. Although Braelynn took Angel’s spotlight, it was just as heart-wrenching for Angel.
Angel was the kind of person who could not tolerate this. How could she bear it when someone she hated received so much fame?
She gnashed her teeth and created an anonymous account to scold Braelynn.
However, her hurtful words were drowned out by the public’s love for Braelynn. Braelynn was beautiful and she was also the top student in a renowned university. She could manage a listed company at such a young age and she was an independent woman.
Braelynn successfully gained the favour of everyone because of her beauty and capabilities. The slandering comments that Angel posted were not only useless, but she also received dozens of hateful comments instead.
Angel original plan had failed and she got into even more trouble instead, which made her even more unhappy.
Angel went to Deborah with anger, “Grandma, look at this news. That bitch, Braelynn, has risen to fame because she became uncle’s goddaughter. He will hold a grand wine party for her in Wolf Group.”
Deborah was unhappy when she heard the word ‘uncle’. “Don’t call him uncle, he’s not part of our family!”
Angel immediately changed her words. “It was a slip of the tongue! Grandma, why do you think he acknowledged Braelynn as his goddaughter at this point in time? Braelynn troubled Rammos last time and she caused our family to lose business. Did he do that to go against our family?”
“That’s for sure! Hayden isn’t a good person after all and he’s always done immoral things!” Deborah had been unhappy with Hayden, but she was even more displeased now that Braelynn was involved.
“Grandma, they are obviously challenging us. Aren’t they going too far? I think we should fight back. We can’t let them be better than us.”
“How do you plan to do that?” Deborah asked.
“I don’t know! Grandma, you’re so smart, you must have a way, right?” Angel flattered Deborah.
However, Deborah didn’t give in. “I like to do things in a straightforward manner and I would never beat around the bush. Although I hate Braelynn and Hayden, I won’t use underhanded means to deal with them. Besides, Braelynn is now a senior executive of Valeria’s company. Wouldn’t I break our relationship with Valeria if I choose to deal with Braelynn?”
Deborah gave up pursuing Braelynn because of Valeria. Since when had Valeria become someone that the Floyd family had to be care about?
Didn’t Deborah hate Valeria so much before this? Angel felt unhappy, but she couldn’t do anything about it.
Fandrey frowned as he looked at Callum in the study. “Why do you think Hayden would suddenly acknowledge his goddaughter in his cocktail party?”
Callum pondered for a moment. “Maybe he wants to embarrass us.”
“What do you mean?”
“Our country is Hayden’s territory, but we signed Azalea to hold a party to show our power. He’s planning to steal our spotlight and make a fool of us.”
Callum’s words made Fandrey frown. If it weren’t for William, he would have been furious. However, Fandrey suppressed his anger when he thought of the meeting with William yesterday.
“There’s no need to draw a conclusion so early. Let’s wait and see tomorrow!”
Callum took a strange look at Fandrey and felt that the latter was a little weird today. “Dad, I can already imagine the situation tomorrow night. Those big shots will definitely go to the Howard family, so our situation may not be very good.”
“Then, so be it! It’s just something embarrassing. Is she that prideful?” Fandrey said faintly.
Callum could only argue, “This isn’t about Azalea’s pride. That’s not important at all, but the key point is that we will be affected. I originally invited William to attend the banquet tomorrow, but he will definitely be absent. Since the Howard family is going to compete with us, I’m afraid that rumours about me going against William will spread again.”
Fandrey immediately understood when he heard Callum’s words and finally thought of William’s purpose. He said lightly, “They can say whatever they want! Just mind your own business.”
Callum saw that Fandrey was not angry at all, but he couldn’t do anything. “Dad, will you and mom attend the party tomorrow?”
“Didn’t I tell you about this before? I won’t!”
“It’s not good for you to stay here, isn’t it?”
“What’s wrong with that? You’re worried that there won’t be enough people for Angel, so you should let all the employees have fun. For me, the employees who work for the Floyd Group are more important than Azalea!”
Since Fandrey was so adamant, Callum had no way to persuade him and he stopped talking.
William did not return home until 11 pm and Valeria was already impatient from waiting. She heard the sound of the car and immediately came out of the room to check.
When William entered the house, he saw her standing on the second floor while she looked down at him. He didn’t have the time to talk to Hayden. “I’ll go up and take a look! Dad, you’d better rest now, we’ll talk about everything else tomorrow.”
William quickly went upstairs and took Valeria’s hand to the bedroom. When he closed the door, Valeria asked, “What happened to you tonight? Why don’t you reply to me after I sent you so many messages?”
“I’m back now. I told you that I’m busy and I’ll come back tonight to tell you the details.”
“Are you that busy? I don’t believe you. By the way, how did you prepare Braelynn’s dress?”
“You don’t have to worry about the dress.”
“Who prepared it? Is it Richard?” Valeria first thought of Richard.
“Of course!”
“What the hell are you doing? She hates Richard so much. If she knew that the gown was prepared by him, wouldn’t she be angry? I told her that I will prepare the gown, but what should I do if this matter is exposed in the future?”
“It won’t, and there’s nothing I can do as well!” William took Valeria’s hand and sat down. “I’ve been pestered by Richard all night, and he wouldn’t let me go home if I didn’t promise him. It’s not easy for me as well.”
“You’re making up a story again!” Valeria did not believe William’s words. “Tell me the truth. Why does Grandpa want Braelynn to be his goddaughter? Is there something behind this?”
“There are no secrets. I just want to help Barelynn get out of trouble.”
“I don’t believe it! You must be hiding something from me.”
“Well, honey, am I not worthy of your trust? I worked so hard every day. Can you let me rest? I’ll take a bath first, so you’d go to sleep quickly.”
“All right!” Valeria compromised, but she reminded William as he walked to the door of the bathroom, “You must tell me the reason tomorrow!”
