Chapter 955 Heartbreak

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Gavin was so furious that David didn’t dare to dodge or fight back. He knelt on the ground and begged, “Sir, please forgive me! I beg you!”
Arthur stepped forward and stopped Gavin when he saw that David’s face was covered with blood. “Sir, please calm down! You should take care of yourself. It’s not worth it to dirty your hands for scum like him. You can ask the bodyguards to help you vent your anger!”
Gavin sat down and panted while he felt a deep ache in his heart.
He remembered very clearly that it was winter when his daughter was born. David said that he couldn’t bear to kill her. If an infant was left at the gate of the temple in such cold weather, how could it withstand the cold? His daughter might have passed away long ago!
How ridiculous! He loved the daughter of such a despicable couple and treated her as his own for so many years. He gave Raelyn everything she asked for. He felt guilty for his own son and grandchildren because of this!
The more Gavin thought about it, the angrier he became. He could not bear to forgive himself.
Arthur had been with Gavin for many years, so he naturally knew Gavin’s current mood. He asked David while he calmed Gavin down, “Does Raelyn know her identity?”
“Yes! Laila told her!” said David.
“What’s her problem? Does she want Raelyn to go back to her roots?” Arthur asked with a sneer.
“No. She’s vicious and her daughter is as bad as her. Raelyn would never want to recognize her real family and Laila made a mistake.” David knelt on the ground with a bloody face and continued to tell the story.
“Laila was filled with joy after she replaced Raelyn, who was her own daughter. When she took good care of Raelyn, Madam was very moved and thought that she was loyal. She regarded Laila as a confidant, and you even looked up to me. After Madam passed away, Laila began to scheme again.”
“She discussed with me to tell Raelyn the truth and they worked together to get rid of Archer. She said that Raelyn was smart and clever and you liked her more than Archer. You would probably give Raelyn the properties of the Saunders family, but I advised her not to think so much. Anyway, I lived a good life with her, so there was no need to expose everything. But she did not listen to me and she was very ambitious. She wanted to get the shares of the Saunders family and I quarrelled with her every day over this matter.”
Gavin shouted angrily, “Get to the point. Don’t talk nonsense!”
“Alright! She has been planning to find an opportunity to tell Raelyn the truth. I thought that she was too ambitious, and I knew that Raelyn was vicious as well. I advised her not to act rashly because it may cause bloodshed. However, Laila didn’t listen to me and she talked to Raelyn about it privately.”
“You were there when she looked for Raelyn?” Arthur asked.
“No, I just sent her to see Raelyn. I was naturally afraid of Raelyn, so I did not dare to see her.”
“Why are you afraid of your daughter? Are you kidding me?” Arthur sneered.
“I’m telling the truth! Raelyn was very vicious and she could do anything to achieve her goals. Do you remember the maid who was drowned in the water in Saunders family’s garden? That was not an accident. Raelyn pushed her into the water and I saw it myself. At that time, Raelyn was only 15 years old. How could a teenager be so cruel and merciless? It’s too scary!”
“Did such a thing happen?” Gavin had no impression of the servants in the backyard, but Arthur was very clear about each servant. He naturally remembered Anna. “Anna was killed by Raelyn? This… this is too…”
“Raelyn caused her death and Laila eventually learned about it. She was not afraid at all, and she was proud of it instead. She said that Raelyn was a person who would do great things. After I sent her to see Raelyn that day, they had a secret chat for several hours. Laila looked happy when she came home and she said that it was successful, but I was quite upset. I secretly observed Raelyn and found that her eyes were full of resentment. I felt that it wasn’t a good thing.”
“I told her about my worries, but Laila didn’t care. At that time, she became agitated and shouted at me. I was oppressed by her every day, so I got angry and broke up with her. She thought that I was not a big deal. After that, she gave me a sum of money and told others that I had an affair after she divorced me. After I got the money, I left and hid away. She died soon after that.”
“Do you have evidence that Laila was killed by Raelyn?” Arthur asked.
“No, but Laila was in good health and she did not suffer from any illnesses. She passed away suddenly, so who else could it be other than Raelyn? Although Laila was cunning and cautious, she did not guard herself against Raelyn. She had been dreaming about having the shares of the Saunders family in her hand with Raelyn. I knew that she was not involved in an accident, and it must have been Raelyn’s doing. After knowing that Laila was dead, I did not dare to show up again. However, I could not escape from Raelyn in the end.”
“She went to meet you again?”
“Otherwise, why do you think I was in jail? It was because of Raelyn. I knelt down to beg for her mercy. She might’ve let me live because I didn’t have any ill intentions, but she did not let me go completely. I was in prison because she asked me to pay back the debt. She thought that there was nothing to worry about as long as I was in prison, so I promised her. She was so vicious that she let me rot in prison for 20 years!”
Gavin had never thought that Raelyn would be such a vicious and shameless person.
Laila deserved to be killed, and David was not a good guy. But what had his daughter done wrong?
How could his daughter suffer so much at such a young age? Gavin’s heart was in excruciating pain when he thought of his daughter and his only hope now was that his daughter was still alive. Perhaps fate was on his side and someone saved his daughter and he still had the opportunity to reunite with her. Could his wish come true?
William and Valeria accompanied the elders of the Floyd family to barbecue in the villa for half a day before they went back home happily.
On the way back, Marcus reported the meeting between David and Gavin to William. “The truth has been exposed and Gavin was very sad. He took action against David on the spot and hit him so hard that his head was bleeding.”
“Is he finally convinced?” William asked calmly.
“Arthur said that Gavin didn’t believe it at the beginning, and he even suspected that you were fooling him. He wanted to call you to question you, but we had already sent David there. He broke down after he heard what David had said.”
William’s expression was cold and he couldn’t feel any sympathy for Gavin. If Gavin wasn’t Valeria’s grandfather, and if it weren’t for the sake of Valeria and Archer, he wouldn’t have bothered about this matter at all.
He could deal with Raelyn without thinking about Gavin’s feelings because she was completely insignificant to him.
