Devon did also realize that his reaction was relatively bizarre. He smiled apologetically and tried to ease the tension, “Sweetheart, you must be tired from traveling all the way here. Let me turn the hot water on for you to have a lovely bath!”
“Wait a minute!” Raelyn looked at him and asked, “Can I have a kiss from you?”
“What?” Devon was stunned and immediately refused, “We have been together for so long. What is with your spontaneous request?”
“Is there anything wrong with trying to keep the sparks alive? Can’t you just give me a peck on the cheek? I now demand a kiss from you to light up my mood!”
Raelyn must have suspected something based on the strange look on her face. It was not the time to have an argument with her. Devon suppressed the disgusted feelings and lowered his head to kiss her forehead.
However, she was not satisfied by it and instantly wrap her arms around his neck. She attempted to kiss his lips but unfortunately got pushed away by him.
Devon covered his mouth and started coughing. He felt utterly disgusted by her physical contact!
He immediately explained his peculiar reaction, “Well… Honey, I’m feeling slightly under the weather. I may have caught a cold.”
Raelyn lost her balance and her legs knocked against the sofa. She was in pain and almost fell to the ground. However, the soreness was nothing compared to her heartbroken feelings.
What else was there to say? Devon felt nauseous when she tried to kiss him. She knew that he was not physically interested in her at all despite being a married couple. How ridiculous was that?
The ache in her heart was eventually replaced by a trace of sadness. Raelyn rested against the sofa as support while staring at him for a while.
She felt as if a knife had slit through her heart and it seemed that Raymond was telling the truth. She murmured to herself, “Why?”
Devon was taken aback by his exaggerated reactions and knew that he needed to explain himself well. He forced a smile and said, “Sweetheart, I’m sorry! I was not feeling well just now…”
Raelyn interrupted him, “Cut it out! Devon, do come clean to me. Are you not interested in me at all?”
“That is absolutely not true! How can I not love my wife?”
“You’re lying! Why didn’t you initiate being intimate with me for the past twenty years then? I have always turned a blind eye to it as I thought you were a conservative man. I even tried to justify your actions that you may be sick. How foolish of I to take things the wrong way!” Raelyn grinned weakly.
“Devon! I have always been loyal and would put you first. How can you be so treacherous by plotting against me like this? You can always tell me truthfully that you are not in love with me. Why would you do things so cruelly? Do you not feel any sense of guilt at all?”
“Sweetheart, what on earth has happened to you?” Devon raised his voice as he realized that Raelyn may have known about the secret after all.
“Excuse me? Are you assuming that no one would know about the things that you have done? Don’t you know that the truth will eventually come to light? I am aware of the filthy things that you have done to me! You had been lying and taking advantage of me. You even allowed your brother… allowed Declan to treat me like that… How brazen of you!”
Tears had flowed down from her cheeks upon thinking about the things that she had done for him. Devon initially wanted to ease the tension by comforting her.
His cell phone was in his pocket and it suddenly rang. Devon took it out and had a glance at the incoming text message on his phone screen. His face was full of terror upon reading about it.
It was a short sentence which stated, “Mr. Anderson, it is game over now as there is no chance for you to turn things around! The police will be looking for you soon. Do leave quietly if you can!”
The message was sent by his secretary. He had been very loyal towards Devon judging by how he had been addressing him politely even out of work.
The smile on Devon’s face eventually disappeared upon receiving the message. He had a blank expression on his face and there was a voice in his head.
“It’s game over! Everything is ruined! You no longer stand any chance to turn the tables!”
How could this happen? Why was he so unlucky to lose in such a battle? It should not have been like this, shouldn’t it?
Leave? Where could he go then?
It was useless for him to flee without money and the absence of a helping hand. He would eventually be caught and brought back. What was the point in running away if that was the case?
Devon stared at the screen for a long time and finally came to terms with the reality. He glanced at Raelyn, who was still crying with a sad look on her face.
He sneered upon looking at Raelyn being in a messy situation. He initially wanted to continue the battle but had a change of mind after reading the text.
Devon suddenly felt a sense of relief when realizing that he was approaching the end of his fate. He knew long ago that things would eventually turn out this way. However, it came sooner than expected.
It was a blessing a disguise! He no longer needed to deal with this hypocritical and vicious woman anymore. He could finally drop his act and rest up.
He felt relaxed upon thinking about it. He walked towards the sofa and took a seat. He crossed his legs while looking at the sobbing Raelyn with a calm look on his face.
She was such a sickening person! Devon would not even consider her as his partner if she was not the daughter of the Saunders family!
He did not push her away and had chosen to sacrifice himself for fame. However, life was such a f*cking joke when he still ended up like this. He swore to not have married this monstrous person if he knew about his fate!
Raelyn was crying but still hoped that he would deny it and tried to comfort her. He just stood there while looking at her with an indifferent look on his face. He then reached out to take the teacup on the coffee table and took a few sips of it. He placed the cup down and calmly asked, “Who told you about this?”
Raelyn was furious by his ignorant attitude and questioned, “Are you saying that my speculation is true? Why would you do this to me? Why?”
“Excuse me? You should be the one asking yourself to get ahold of the answer.” Devon sneered and decided to stop pretending since things had gone out of hand.
“You were the one who shamelessly pestered me back then. Take a look at yourself! You have such uninteresting features with an ugly heart. Besides, I struggled to find any good qualities in you. I am at least a decent-looking man who excels in my studies. Why would I fall in love with such a ridiculous person like you?”
“You… How dare you criticize me like this? You’ve gone too far!” Raelyn pointed at him after being insulted by him. Her patience had finally run out and decided to go rough on him.
Devon was not foolish enough to back down and immediately lifted his leg. His kick was powerful and Raelyn did not see it coming at all. He struck hard and she howled upon falling to the ground.
