Emily immediately snapped back, “Azalea is not that kind of a person. Miss Clark, could there be a misunderstanding between the two of you?”
“What? How could I misinterpret matters when I am speaking from personal experience?” Abbie laughed in a mocking manner.
“It is normal for you to be biased towards Azalea given that you are her relative. We are clearly not on the same team and hence, we shall call this meeting an end right now. I would like to remind you once again that Azalea’s matters have nothing to do with me. I am not the correct person you should be looking for in order to help her out!”
Emily was feeling displeased as Abbie was being too blunt and said, “Miss Clark, you can have everything in the world as you are the eldest daughter of the Clark family. On the other hand, Azalea is a poor child who has lost her father at a young age. Can’t you just be the bigger person and give way for her instead?”
“What? Miss Poland, I reckon that you might have got things mixed up. I am not interested in coming into her way at all. Hence, what more should I tolerate her?”
“Well, care to explain about your relationship with Michael then? He is the fiance of Azalea based on my understanding but they have broken up because of you. Isn’t that true?”
“Miss Poland, didn’t you have a read about the published statement?” Abbie scoffed and questioned.
Emily suppressed the dissatisfaction towards Abbie and replied patiently, “Yes, I did. However, official statements are just for public reassurance, and the truth always lies in the beholder. Azalea and Michael were a couple as per their parents’ approval and everyone is clearly aware of it. I don’t think that statement does great justice in explaining the true picture.”
“What are you trying to say? Miss Clark, you can always seek for Michael to mend his relationship with Azalea. I won’t stop you from doing it anyway,” Abbie spread out her hands as reinforcement of her idea.
Emily frowned and confirmed that Azalea was telling the truth. Abbie flirted with Micahel despite not being attracted to him. She just wanted to seek revenge on Azalea.
Abbie had crossed the line!
Emily replied with a sullen expression on her face, “Miss Clark, it’s obvious that you are not interested in Michael at all. Well then, why would you force him to break up with Azalea? Don’t you think that it’s highly inappropriate to do such a thing?”
Abbie’s patience had eventually run out and snapped back, “You can always sue me for my rash behavior then! Looks like you’re here just to criticize me but I don’t think I am in the mood to hear about it. Excuse me. Valeria, let’s go!”
Valeria stood up and followed Abbie to exit the private room. Valeria turned her head around as soon as she walked towards the door. She glanced at Emily and said, “I have assumed you to be different than Azalea but I have now changed my mind. Miss Poland, Abbie is a busy woman and does not have time to entertain petty matters. Hence, I do hope that this is the first and last time we would meet with each other. Stop pestering Abbie further, goodbye!”
Valeria and Abbie left Emily alone in the private room and left the coffee shop. Emily sat there with a moody feeling. She realized that the pair were very arrogant and showed no respect towards her. How dare they!
Abbie clearly had no feelings for Michael judging by the way she talked just now. She just wanted to get on Azalea’s nerve whereas Michael was not the innocent one either. He was seeing two women at the same time but eventually gave up on Azalea. He did that as Abbie was the eldest daughter of the Clark family. Emily felt depressed as Azalea was being poorly treated because of her.
She was the cause of Azalea’s unhappiness! It was all because of her!
She rubbed her forehead while feeling troubled. She could not bear to watch Azalea being bullied by Abbie any longer. She needed to find a way to turn things around for Azalea.
Emily was lost in her thoughts and the door of the private room was suddenly pushed open. She glanced towards the entrance as she had assumed that it was a waiter who had come in.
She thought she had gone bonkers upon seeing Callum standing at the door. She tried to take a good look at the person once again.
Callum glanced at the shocked-looking Emily with a pair of tender gaze. He greeted her, “Emily!”
Emily confirmed that she was on her sound mind upon listening to his soothing voice. She was taken aback and asked, “But… why are you here?”
Callum closed the door and sat opposite her. He queried, “I came over as I have received news that you were here. Emily, what are you doing here? Is there anything that I can help with?”
“Do I need a reason for coming here?” Emily questioned back.
“No, I just… well…” Callum had finally met the person that he had been longing for. He felt heartbroken and asked, “Uhm, how have you been?”
“Things have been very good!” Emily answered. She composed herself before continuing, “Mr. Floyd, it’s better for us to not meet with each other again. After all, we would never know if there are eyes on us. It would not do me any good should this matter got spread out!”
“Emily, why are you being so cold towards me?”
“Well, how should I speak with you then? I’m aware to what extend your family would do things towards their enemy. You wouldn’t want to put me in a tight spot, would you?”
“Emily, you must have been disappointed in me! I have let you down! It’s all my fault…”
Emily interrupted him in a stern tone, “That’s enough! I’m not one who likes to reminisce the past and we shall let bygones be bygones. I don’t see the point in continuing the conversation with you. Goodbye!”
Callum reached out to halt her when she was about to leave the private room. “Emily, arent you curious about what she looks like? Angel followed me here and is currently upstairs. It has been more than twenty years but you have yet to see her before. I shall call her to meet with you right now!”
Emily outright refused him, “I don’t see the point in that. I’m not in the mood to meet with anyone from the Floyd family!”
“But she is your child…”
“Cut it out! Your daughter has nothing to do with me! She does not have any connection with me ever since you insisted on taking her away. She is part of the Floyd family whereas I am just an ordinary person. It’s better to remain this way as we are not fated to have any relationship with each other.”
“Emily, I’m genuinely sorry about what had happened last time! It was not my idea to take her away from you and…”
“You don’t have to explain further. I am aware that it was your parents’ decision and you were left with no choice. That child and I are practically strangers since that incident had happened so many years ago. What difference would it make for reuniting with her?”
Emily smiled sarcastically and questioned, “Do you have the guts to tell her that I am her mother? Are you sure that she would be happy about it?”
“I will chose to tell her the truth if that is what you wish for!”
“There’s no need for that! I gave birth to her but did not raise her up. I’m just a stranger who had abandoned her since she was just a child. Stop making things much more complicated as it has been more than twenty years. Goodbye!”
Callum no longer persuaded Emily further upon seeing her cold behavior towards him. He assumed that she was here to see Angel, the child that they had together. However, he was taken aback by the unexpected reaction of Emily.
She got up upon seeing that he remained silent. She picked up her purse and walked out of the private room before marching towards the elevator.
A hint of mockery flashed across her face as soon as the elevator door was shut. Daughter? Haha! Who the heck was she? Angel was not her daughter at all!
