Chapter 814 What Happened?

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Arthur did not expect Gavin to ignore his advice in such a short period of time. He hesitated for a moment and said, “I’m not sure whether the bank is still operating at this hour.”
“What are you talking about? It’s three in the afternoon and it’s definitely still open for business. Hurry up and have this settled!” Gavin sternly instructed as he knew what Arthur was trying to do.
“Raelyn, don’t worry about Devon as I’ll help you out soon. He should not be kept under the watch when he is genuinely innocent. What the h*ll are the authorities doing?”
Raelyn was secretly pleased upon hearing Gavin’s offer to provide financial assistance as well as pulling some strings for her. She pretended to refuse, “Dad, you don’t have to do this! I’m well-off!”
“Why are your clothes so worn out then? You would not have become so dull if you really had the money,” Gavin was persistent in his decision.
Arthur told him that Raelyn was in for the money but it turned out to be the exact opposite. Raelyn did not mention a word about financial assistance but was instead very caring towards Gavin. She even felt guilty and kept apologizing for the things she had done in the past.
Raelyn was much better than Archer, who kept talking back with Gavin just now. Gavin was determined to help Raelyn out and said, “You are nevertheless a part of the family. You would be a laughing stock of others real soon. Don’t you know how embarrassing it is for the Saunders Family?”
Gavin insisted on providing financial backup to Raelyn. Arthur had no choice and eventually headed to the bank.
He received a call from Valeria as soon as he arrived at the parking lot. “What motive does Raelyn have for visiting grandpa?”
Arthur sighed and replied, “She put on an act to emphasize her current miserable state. Mr. Saunders is feeling distressed and wants to help her out. I am heading to the bank right now to wire some money to her.”
Valeria chuckled and said, “You don’t have to make such a hassle. Wait for me at the hospital and I shall be there real soon.”
“Raelyn has successfully convinced Mr. Howard to be on her team. I’m afraid that there is nothing you can do to change his decision,” Arthur reminded her.
“Don’t worry as I have a way to deal with her! This will be the end of her to have the guts to obtain funds from grandpa!” Valeria confidently replied. Arthur was not convinced that Valeria was able to turn things around. However, William would always back her up and he had the ability to deal with anything in a perfect manner.
Arthur eventually agreed and said, “Alright then. I shall wait for you in the parking lot!”
Valeria dressed up and made her way downstairs. She instructed Bobby, “Bobby, let’s go to the hospital right now!”
Valeria told Bobby to make a temporary stop and bought some fruits and pastries that were Gavin’s favorites. Arthur had an anxious look on his face when they arrived at the parking lot of the hospital.
Arthur jogged towards them and said, “Mr. Gavin had called me several times to enquire about my updates. I’ll be running out of excuses soon. Mrs. Howard, are you really sure about this?”
“Yes, trust me! Let’s make our way to grandpa’s ward right now!” Bobby was holding the fruits and desserts in his hand while following Valeria to the ward. They heard Gavin’s impatient tone upon arriving at the door of the ward.
“Where the h*ll is Arthur? What is taking him so long?”
“Could he be stuck in the traffic? However, that’s not quite possible as it is currently not the peak hours, right?” Raelyn was also subtly criticizing Arthur for being inefficient.
“Raelyn, don’t worry. Let me give him a call once again!” The door was being pushed open as soon as Gavin was about to dial Arthur’s number. Valeria and Bobby then entered the hospital ward.
Gavin was stunned upon seeing the sight of Valeria and asked, “Valeria? Why are you here?”
“Of course I’m here to pay you a visit!” Valeria signaled Bobby to put the fruits and desserts on the bedside table. She continued, “Grandpa, are you feeling better now?”
“Yes!” Gavin replied and tried to hint at Raelyn by giving her a look. Raelyn immediately understood him and greeted, “Valeria, hello there!”
“Erm… are you Ms. Anderson? What the h*ll has happened to you? What on earth are you wearing? What is with the weary face and the strands of grey hair on you? Oh My God! Why are you in such a haggard state? I thought you’re a cleaner working at the hospital. Wait, that’s not quite right. A cleaner would look much neat than you, don’t you think?”
Valeria pretended to be genuinely shocked at the appearance of Raelyn. Her words were somewhat mocking at Raelyn.
“I…” Raelyn had a displeased look on her face upon hearing Valeria’s words. Gavin frowned and said, “Valeria, how can you talk back to your aunt in such a manner?”
“Grandpa, I didn’t mean that as I am just too surprised! Ms. Anderson, what has exactly happened to you? I saw you making a visit to the beauty salon and you were extremely different compared to your current state. You were covered with posh clothing and holding a branded handbag at that time. Your hair was glossy with a glowing face. Why would you change so much in such a short period of time?”
Gavin was not convinced and felt that Valeria was trying to cause a scene. He frowned and said, “Valeria, stop messing around and be polite to your aunt!”
“I’m not kidding as I’m genuinely telling the truth. Grandpa, look, I have the picture to prove my point. This is what Ms. Anderson had looked like two hours ago.” Valeria switched on her phone and shown Gavin the look of Raelyn before undergoing a makeover.
Raelyn was radiant and full of life in the photo. There was no trace of misery on her.
Gavin looked at the picture before taking a closer look at Raelyn once again. He still did not believe it and said, “This picture must be taken long ago, right? This is just…”
“How is it possible? Grandpa, did you notice the time and date that was shown in the photo? It was taken at two this afternoon.” Valeria stared at Raelyn with ridicule and continued, “It’s fine if you think that this photo is fake. I have a video about what Ms. Anderson had said when she sought the makeup artist just now. I will open up the recorded file for you now.”
Valeria played the footage that showcased the conversation between Raelyn and the makeup artist. The video had shown the entire process of Raelyn’s makeover and her request to become extremely miserable. She even demanded a haggard look to make it as realistic as possible.
The makeup artist confidently replied, “Don’t worry, I am a professional in this industry. I have been doing this for decades and it’s rather impossible to not satisfy your request.”
The makeup artist then put on a wig on Raelyn’s head. Raelyn was soon filled with makeup to make her face as wrinkly as possible.
Gavin was fuming with anger and glared at Raelyn. “What on earth is going on? Why would you do this?”
Raelyn choked on her words and stuttered. Valeria grinned and said, “Grandpa, she undoubtedly wants you to take pity on her in hopes to obtain financial assistance from you. Ms. Anderson is aware of the despicable things that she had done. She then came up with this idea to deceive you. Ms. Anderson, am I right?”
“I am not here for the money!” Raelyn tried to defend herself despite feeling upset.
“Why would you make such a bombastic makeover then? Are you here to become a clown? Ms. Anderson, you are indeed an excellent actress! Kudos to you!”
Valeria had successfully lure Raelyn into her trap. Raelyn’s efforts had all gone down the drain since she was being exposed. She tried her best in hoping to win Gavin over.
“I’m not interested in dad’s funds. I came here to visit him upon hearing that he has fallen ill. I had no choice but to come up with this idea as he had been refusing to see me during this period of time.”
