William looked at Marcus coldly and said, “Come in and tell me about it!”
Valeria naturally couldn’t continue to beg for mercy when Marcus came, so she returned to her room in anger.
William walked to the chair and sat down. “What is it?”
Marcus smiled awkwardly. “I just came over and they called to inform me that Michael smashed everything in the lounge. What happened?”
“Yes, he’s pissed off.” William did not want to mention the matter again. Michael was furious, and so was he.
When Marcus saw that William didn’t want to mention it, he didn’t dare to bring it up again. “Mr. Howard, I’m here to talk about Emily. I’ve sent someone to investigate Emily’s birth hospital and found the doctor who performed Emily’s surgery. She told me that Emily’s child was still alive during labour.”
“Then?” William asked with a pen in his hand.
Marcus carefully looked at William’s face and said, “The baby spent a night in the insulation chamber and died in it.”
William chuckled. “Is the hospital so irresponsible?”
“Yes, Emily did not make a big deal out of it at that time. The hospital gave a sum of money to Emily to settle the matter. I don’t know what she’s thinking at all.”
William narrowed his eyes after he heard that and said, “How can such a serious matter be dismissed so easily? That doesn’t make any sense!”
“Yes, it’s too strange! Maybe Emily didn’t want everyone to know about it. After all, being pregnant before marriage is somewhat scandalous. By the way, the doctor told me that she didn’t just give birth to one child.”
“What do you mean? Was she pregnant with twins?”
“No. The doctor said that when she gave Emily a medical check-up, she found that Emily had a child before and there was a caesarean section wound on her belly.”
“This…” William was stunned and he did not know what to say.
Marcus continued, “During the medical examination, the doctor specifically reminded her that she should get pregnant at least two years after the cesarean section has been done. This way, the wound would be healed and the risk of complications during labour will be reduced. Three years had passed since Emily’s last pregnancy, so she told the doctor that it was all right!”
“What? So she gave birth to a child three years ago? Based on the date, she must’ve been overseas at that time?” William looked at Marcus in shock.
“And at that time, she was so in love with my uncle that they couldn’t even be apart, right? And that child of hers must be older than me…”
Marcus nodded. “Yes. If she really did give birth to a child, that child would be at least one year older than you.”
“But my uncle has no other children except Angel, right? If Emily really gave birth to his child, my grandparents would not abandon the baby. Does this mean that the child is dead?”
William asked a few questions before he stopped. It was too strange that Emily would have such a big secret.
Since Emily was pregnant in a different country, he could only investigate this matter abroad. Could he find any news overseas?
How could the Floyd family not know that Emily and Callum were together? Why would they be clueless about her pregnancy?
How long could a weak woman like her hide in a foreign country? If Veronica did not fall off a horse on accident, Emily would have been married to Callum by now.
Callum must have known that she was pregnant! It was impossible for the Floyd family to not know, so this matter should be thoroughly investigated.
Then, Thomas left Wolf Group and drove to Misurton. On the way, Emily called and Thomas immediately answered, “Aunty!”
“Thomas, have you seen Miss Clark?” Emily’s voice was as gentle as ever.
“Yes, I have!”
“How do you feel?”
“I knew her when I was abroad. Abbie is very lively and she’s not as prim as the daughters from other rich families. She is very open-minded and I liked her very much since I was abroad.”
“Really? Then what does she think of you? What does that mean?”
“She has always treated me like an ordinary friend.”
“If you like her, just chase her. It’s not easy to meet someone you like, so you’d better not let her go. Otherwise, you will regret it.” Emily warned.
“I will. Oh, I did not only meet Abbie today, but I also met her good friend Valeria.”
“Her?” Emily paused for a moment. “How is Valeria’s personality? Is she easy to get along with? Did she make things difficult for you?”
“Valeria is very kind, simple, and easy to get along with. I like her very much!”
Emily smiled when she heard Thomas’ words. “She’s married and her husband is William Howard. You’d better not say things like that because you’ll be misunderstood.”
Thomas explained, “I don’t mean that kind of attraction, but I just feel very close to her and I see her as my sister. Since I don’t have a sister, it would be good if I had a sibling like Valeria.”
After listening to Thomas’ words, Emily was silent for a moment. “In fact, is Azalea a good person? If you like, you can take her as your sister.”
“Azalea? Forget it!” Thomas laughed. “She’s vain, pretentious, and she has low morale. A woman like her will disgust me to death.”
Emily didn’t expect Thomas to hate Azalea so much, so she was stunned for a moment. “Is Azalea that bad? She just… followed Madelyn’s footsteps so she’s a bit stuck-up. She’s a good person, so you can try to get to know her better slowly. I think she’s still a good girl.”
Thomas was very respectful to Emily and he did not refute her. Instead, he asked Emily, “Aunty, are you feeling better? Are you sick again? I asked someone to bring you some medicine from abroad and I’ll send it to you later.”
“Thank you, Thomas!” Emily’s voice was a little choked. “You are now a CEO, so don’t do these things again. We should keep a low profile like before because it won’t be good if the Floyd family finds out.”
“It’s okay. The Floyd family didn’t bar me from contacting anyone and they’re not bad people. My boss is very good to me, and the old chairman and his wife are also very good to me. Your worries will not come true.”
“It’s always wise to play safe, so you’d better be careful. You know that the Floyd family and I don’t get along well with each other. They will harm you if they know that you’ve been contacting me.”
“I am not afraid. I need to repay the gratitude that you’ve given to me. You’re so kind to me and you even paid for my education. You are just like my mother to me, so I won’t abandon you just because the Floyd family doesn’t like you. I can just find another job, but I can’t forgo my principles!”
“I know you’re not afraid, but I am. Thomas, if you really regard me as your mother, you should listen to me. I don’t want to see anything bad happen to you. Just treat this as fulfilling my wishes and listen to me! Please!”
After Emily hung up Thomas’ call, she sat down on the sofa and covered her face with her hands as tears slid down her fingers.
