Chapter 497 Before They Took Action

Book:That Stranger Lying Beside Me Published:2024-6-1

Unlike Hayden, who was furious, William was all smiles, “Dad, did you come all the way here just to scold and hit me?”
“Of course not! Tell me, are you the one who did those things to Paisley?”
William shook his head, “No!”
“Stop lying. I know it’s you, you brat. I can’t believe you actually did that just to make me give up on Paisley. Are you even aware of what you’re doing?” Hayden just wouldn’t believe William.
“I said it wasn’t me! I’ll admit it if I really did do it. And why do I need to lie to you anyway?” William said as he spread his arms.
“Really? Then who else could it be?” Hayden knew William well. If he had said so, then it must be someone else behind this.
William frowned, “Please stop talking about Paisley. I don’t really care about strangers. Did you come all the way here to stand up for her?”
“Of course not. I came here for something important! We need to talk.”
“You can leave now if it’s about breaking up with Valeria! It’s impossible,” William stopped Hayden before he could start talking.
“Are you sure you want to walk down this path even if it brings you nowhere?”
“What are you talking about? This is my way of finding true love, just like what you did with mom. Didn’t you two go through thick and thin just to be together? If you can give up everything for love, why are you stopping me from doing the same?”
“How dare you compare you two with your mother and I! We were each others’ true love!”
“True love?” William laughed. “Mom was a young, pretty, and talented lady. How are you, a fifty-year-old man with a dead wife and a bunch of useless kids, a good match for her?”
“That’s not true! I was still a young man when I married your mom, not anything lesser than you!”
William narrowed his eyes and asked rudely, “Oh, please, listen to yourself! Am I married? Do I have half a dozen children with me? Is my career any worse than yours?”
Hayden was at a loss for words at this. Marcus saw everything unfold and knew William was about to give Hayden hell, so he quickly left before he needed to suffer from William’s anger.
Since there were no more outsiders around, William didn’t bother to hold back. He scoffed, “My mom gave up her family and wealth for her so-called true love. To be with someone like you, her family never forgave her until the day she died. You knew clearly how people hated and looked down on you back then, so why are you doing the same right now, trying to break me and Valeria up? Why can’t you just give us your blessing?”
“It’s different! Natalie killed your mom, making Valeria your enemy’s daughter. You being together with her is disgusting! I don’t think even your mom would support your decision.”
“Dad, enough! Natalie didn’t kill mom!”
“Okay. Tell me who did, then,” Hayden asked.
“I’m still looking into it. I’ll find out the truth soon,” William said indifferently. “To be frank, you should worry about your eldest son and daughter more than Valeria and I.”
“What do you mean?”
“They have something to do with my mom’s death!”
Hayden’s eyes widened when he heard this, “William, this is not funny!”
“Do I look like I’m joking? Plus, this isn’t something that I would joke about! Just be careful of them, alright? They are not as innocent as you think.”
“Stop right there, William. Is it something the Saunders family told you? Yes, Savannah is unforgivable for what she had done just to get Archer, but why would she do anything to your mom? She was the happiest woman when I married your mom because that meant she would have a friend. Savannah was always with your mom, and because they were about the same age, they got along so well. They were as close as sisters!”
Hayden was sweating as he anxiously defended Savannah.
William was unmoved and was only looking at Hayden coldly from his chair, “Sometimes, the truth can be difficult to accept, that’s why people tend to ignore it easily. Don’t worry, I’ll make you see the truth one day.”
“But William, why Savannah? This doesn’t make sense! Why would she do that? Tell me, why would she kill your mom?”
“I want to know why too.”
“So it’s just baseless assumptions?” Hayden wiped his sweat away. “Did the Saunders family tell you to accuse Savannah just so you can be together with Valeria? They’re a bit too shameless, aren’t they? Making up all these lies just to take you away from me! They’re going to pay for it!”
“Dad, this has nothing to do with the Saunders family! I have always known exactly what I want, and no one is able to change that. I’ll find out the truth about mom’s death. I was going to tell you after I know the truth, but I’m worried for you right now. Savannah and Charles will do anything just to get what they want, so please be more careful in case they are using you.”
Hayden swallowed a bitter laugh. He came here to persuade William to break up with Valeria, but who knew he would hear news like this.
To be honest, he didn’t believe that Savannah killed his wife. One was the woman he loved the most, and the other was the daughter he treasured most.
He could still remember how close the two of them used to be. Savannah had even almost fainted from crying too hard when his wife passed away in the hospital!
Most importantly, Savannah had no reason to kill William’s mother. They had no conflict of interest!
But, judging by how far William had come all by himself, he wouldn’t need to lie to Hayden. In fact, William could have just taken care of Charles and Savannah secretly instead of telling Hayden everything. So, even if William wasn’t 100% sure, he must be confident enough that it was somehow true.
Not long after that, Hayden left Wolf Group desolately. He couldn’t only listen to one side of the story, no matter if it was William’s or Savannah’s. He needed some time to think it over and figure it out on his own.
After Hayden left, William walked over to the window. He lit a cigarette, thinking about the shock and loneliness on Hayden’s face when he left. His words must have hit Hayden hard.
William never intended to tell Hayden before Raelyn came to Juxemburg. After all, he didn’t have enough evidence and no one would take him seriously anyway.
But, after knowing that Savannah and Raelyn met at the hotel, he couldn’t wait anymore. He decided to let Hayden know as it might keep him out of danger somehow.
After all, Charles and Savannah were still Hayden’s children, and he would involuntarily put down his guard around them, and it would be dangerous for Hayden.
Charles and Savannah were already out of moves, but shameless and evil people like them would definitely do something out of everyone’s expectations when they were at the end of their rope. So, William could only do his best to stop them before they took action.
