Archer was shocked, “Who let him leave? Where did he go?”
“They’re being very discreet over there. I can’t get more information,” Lamont plopped down on a seat. “I’m guessing that it has something to do with Sir William because Ronald disappeared a few hours after Sir William visited him. Otherwise, there aren’t any other explanations.”
“Why would he want to do that?” Archer frowned. He couldn’t figure out why William would help Ronald get out of the detention. “Does Valeria know about this?”
“She definitely doesn’t know. She hates Ronald’s guts and has been waiting for him to be punished. If she knew that Sir William had helped Ronald to escape his sentence, he’d definitely face her wrath.” Lamont replied. He, too, couldn’t comprehend why William would do such a thing.
“President Saunders, do you think Sir William did this on purpose because he was bitter about his breakup with Valeria?”
Archer pondered for a moment before answering, “William’s behavior is very weird indeed. Are you certain that he broke up with Valeria?”
“Well, Miss Brown had warned me not to pry into her personal affairs, so I didn’t dare to ask her. I’m guessing that they did break up, judging by how they hadn’t come in touch with each other for the past few days. After all, they used to be inseparable. Besides, Miss Brown seems very moody at the company lately, and I heard that Sir William made a mess of their house too. They should have broken up, right?” Lamont wasn’t too sure about it himself.
“Where does Valeria sleep during these nights? Home?” Archer asked again.
“No. Miss Brown sleeps at Miss Clark’s place. She and Miss Clark have always been close, so I think she might have gone to Miss Clark for comfort.”
“But what if they didn’t break up at all?” Archer retorted. “Didn’t you say that Valeria is very stubborn? If she loved William so much, she wouldn’t have let him go so easily, would she?”
“But they used to be so public about their relationship. Now, not only that they’ve suddenly stopped talking to each other, Sir William had a fall out with Sir Hayden because of it too. I think they’ve really gone their separate ways.”
“It’s hard to say. If William really is the president of the Wolf Group, then we can’t rule out that he’s only acting. Surely Sir Hayden couldn’t keep someone that runs such a large corporation like the Wolf Group in rein.”
Upon listening to Archer’s analysis, Lamont fell silent.
Archer frowned, “None of William speaks ill-will to me, especially his eyes that speak a thousand words. I can see his love for Valeria in his eyes. I’d rather believe that they aren’t separated. But just what does he want to do with Ronald?”
“What if you’re wrong?”
Archer replied with confidence, “I won’t. I’ve been there, so trust me when I say William really loves Valeria. I knew it at a glance when I saw the clip of them together. His eyes can’t lie.”
Lamont sighed, “Yes, Sir William treats Miss Brown very well. I’ll have to give him that. But don’t you think he’s too unpredictable and difficult to read? I’m afraid that we won’t be able to step in and help Miss Brown if he was set on doing her harm.”
Archer’s brows furrowed, “I believe in my judgment. Think about it. If William was the president of the Wolf Group, why would he resort to using dirty tricks to seek revenge? After all, the Brownard Group has nothing on him.”
Lamont couldn’t help but acknowledge that Archer did have a point. Given his status, William didn’t need to seek revenge on Valeria to take down the Brownard Group. Even if he had fought Archer as equals, Archer would have lost miserably.
However, Lamont had more worries besides his concerns about how William was going to treat Valeria after their breakup. The fact that William was Savannah’s younger brother, as well as the tangled relationship between Savannah, Archer, and Raymond, put Valeria in a very worrying position.
At the thought of Raymond, Lamont suddenly remembered the task Gavin had entrusted him with. So, he started, “Sir, what are you going to do about Sir Raymond? Are you really going to heed Miss Barnbook’s advice about ignoring him and leaving nothing to him?”
“Yes, I fully intend to, but that’s not because of Lucian. She doesn’t hold power over me,” Archer scowled upon the mention of Lucian. “Lamont, what do you think about Lucian?”
“President Saunders, I’m neither Miss Barnbook’s lover nor friends, so I can’t comment about her,” Lamont replied honestly.
Archer said steadfastly, “I’ve always thought that Lucian isn’t as simple as she seemed. And I still do. So you’d better be careful, Lamont.”
“What do you mean by that, President Saunders?” Lamont was shocked. Although he wasn’t familiar with Lucian, she had never come off as a malicious person to him. So, naturally, he was surprised to hear Archer painted her as one.
“You will find out soon enough. I’m just speculating for now, but I’ll let you know when I find out more about it.”
Lamont knew that Archer would never simply speak ill of someone. So he must have been serious about his warning.
If that was the case, what was Lucian’s problem? Lamont wondered as he left.
Meanwhile, Archer lit up a cigarette and let out a few puffs of smoke when he was left alone. Then, picking up his phone, he dialed for his hired gun, “Any updates on my dad?”
The man replied in a low voice, “I have my eyes on him, President Saunders. Sir Gavin is acting so strangely today. He left the hotel in a different set of clothes with a wig on, and he took the public bus. Even his bodyguards are disguised as ordinary folks and are following him discreetly. He’s circling the Central South Building at the moment, but I don’t know what he wants to do.”
Archer chuckled softly. “I see… Report back to me immediately when you have anything new.”
He took a few more puffs after ending the call. Archer knew there was something fishy about Gavin’s appearance in B City from the start, but he just couldn’t figure out what was up Gavin’s sleeves.
And he was even more confused when he heard that Gavin was walking around the Central South Building in disguise. Just what on earth was going on in Gavin’s mind?
Besides, the Central South Building was where the Brownard Group’s company was located. Archer wondered if there was anything worthy of Gavin’s attention there.
Archer’s hired gun returned his call just as he finished smoking his cigarette. The man reported, “President Saunders, Sir Gavin went to a nearby restaurant with a good-looking woman.”
“A good-looking woman?” Archer repeated in disbelief. He knew Gavin must have gone to the Central South Building to meet up with someone important, but he would never expect the person would turn out to be a woman.
“Yes. And when that stunning woman came out from the Central South Building, Sir Gavin walked up to her with glee and said something to her. Then, they crossed the road and headed to a nearby Chinese restaurant. I mean, they seem quite intimate. At one point, Sir Gavin even pretended to slip so that the woman could support him.”
“Did you take any photos?” Archer asked.
“Yes, I’m sending to you right away.”
Within seconds, Archer received all the photos the man had taken with his mobile phone. He almost thought he was hallucinating when he saw the woman who was holding Gavin’s hand.
He rubbed his eyes and looked again. It was indeed Valeria holding Gavin’s hand. And Gavin’s happiness and gentleness were evident on his face.
“What the hell?” Archer murmured.
