After William and Valeria had their dinner, it was still early. So, they took a walk in the garden.
As they were going to get their marriage certificate the next day, they couldn’t contain their excitement. They chatted happily as they strolled along. William had his hand on Valeria’s waist, and he peppered her with kisses along the way.
Romance and tenderness were in the air as they walked around the garden. After one round, Gavin called William. “William, are you up to anything now? If you’re free, come and have a drink with me.”
Gavin and William rarely contacted each other. So there was obviously something fishy going on if Gavin invited him for a drink. Sensing this, William immediately refused his offer. “I have something on right now. Why don’t I treat you to a drink tomorrow?”
“Are you rejecting my offer, William? I feel humiliated. I won’t take up much time anyway, so there’s no need for you to reject me like this. Come on, show me some respect. I’m a very petty person, and I’ll tell your father about this if you keep refusing!” Gavin threatened him in a half-serious manner.
William frowned. There must be something behind this, he couldn’t possibly be asking him over just for drinks. Did he find out about who Valeria really was and wanted to tell him something?
After all, Gavin was Valeria’s biological grandfather. Even though Valeria did not acknowledge him, he could not ignore his status. So he finally agreed to meet him. “Alright, I’ll go over now.”
After hanging up, William looked at Valeria and said, “Mr. Saunders invited me over for a drink. Why don’t we go together?”
“No, it’s okay. You can just go alone. Don’t drink too much and come back earlier!” Valeria reminded him.
“But you’ll be lonely at home. Let’s go together.”
“I won’t be! I can watch some movies and play games. Don’t worry about me and just go. I’ll be waiting for you!”
10 minutes after William had left, the sound of an engine roared outside. Valeria thought William had returned. But when she went to take a look, it was William’s father, Hayden.
Since he had already come knocking on her door, Valeria could only let him in courteously.
Once Hayden entered the living room, his eyes swept across the living room. He did not know that William bought such a big villa like this. It had a garden and even a swimming pool. Its location was great and had a large area too.
Although he had given William quite a sum of money, it was not enough for him to buy this villa.
So where did William get the money?
Hayden could not understand this, but it was not the most important thing at that point. He had to make things clear to Valeria.
Even though Valeria knew that Hayden wasn’t here with good intentions, he was still a guest. So she made him a cup of tea.
“Have some tea, Mr. Howard!”
Hayden took the cup from her and put it on the coffee table in front of him. “Sit down, I have something important to say to you.”
Valeria sat down sideways and looked at Hayden. Hayden sighed and said, “You are a good lady, but William is a loafer. He’s not good enough for you. So why are you clinging on to him like this?”
“Since you think that I am a good girl and William is a loafer, shouldn’t you be happy about this? Why are you objecting?”
Valeria continued, “To be honest, I wanted to break up with William before, but I could not do it. Without William, my life is meaningless. I can’t live without him, so I have to be with him. No one can tear us apart.”
Howard knew that Valeria was telling him that she would never break up with William. So he had no choice but to let her know the secret between their families.
He shook his head. “Well, you made me say this. If you had listened to my advice, I wouldn’t have to tell you what I’m about to. I’ll just be frank. The only reason I object to your relationship is because the both of you are enemies. Your mother, Natalie Garcia, pushed my wife down when she was still pregnant and about to give birth. She bled too much and passed away. You are the daughter of the woman who killed William’s mother. Do you think you have the right to be with him?”
Valeria widened her eyes, “You must be lying! This is impossible!”
“Why should I lie to you? Would I lie about something like this? For 20 years, I hoped and prayed for Natalie Garcia to die! I hated her to the core! But do you know why I let her go?”
Hayden sneered. “My daughter, Savannah, likes Archer Saunders. But Archer refused to marry her because he liked Natalie. To save her, Archer agreed to marry my daughter. Savannah knelt in front of me and begged me to let them be together. You know, since I only have one daughter, I gave up the chance to avenge my wife. But I will never let my son marry the daughter of his mother’s murderer!”
“I don’t believe it! It’s impossible! My mother is a kind woman, she would never do that! There must be some misunderstanding! Whatever the reason may be, she would never hurt a pregnant woman!”
“Miss Brown, stop deceiving yourself. I did not tell William that your mother was the one who killed his mother because I didn’t want to hurt him. That’s why I came to tell you this. If you really love him, you should let go of this relationship.”
“No! I can’t do that! I will never give up on our relationship!” Valeria murmured.
“You are really stubborn. Alright then, this is all I have to say. If you don’t give up on him, I shall tell him this myself. I’ll tell him about his mother’s death and that your mother was the murderer. By then, he will only hate you!”
“No! You can’t do this!” Valeria panicked. She was afraid of losing William, but she was even more scared that he would hate her after hearing this.
If William knew about it, he wouldn’t love her. He would even hate her to death! She couldn’t bear for that to happen. It would be too much for her to take.”
“Whatever I do depends on your attitude, Miss Brown. If you just give up, I’ll bring this to my grave. Miss Brown, this might sound harsh, but don’t you feel the least guilty after hearing this? How are you going to face William in the future after knowing this?”
Hayden was aggressive. “He was born without a mother, and he didn’t even get to feel his mother’s love! You have been pampered with love from your mother since birth up till now. But my son has never celebrated his birthday! This is because his birthday is also his mother’s death anniversary!”
“Huh… this…” Valeria was at a loss. Her tears fell as she took in what Mr. Howard said. William was too pitiful!
Seeing Valeria cry, Hayden softened his tone and said, “Miss Brown, since you know the truth, I won’t say anything else. If you really intend to marry William, there’s nothing I can do. I won’t tell him this secret, as it is going to hurt him too much. But I would like to remind you that if you marry him, he will bring you to see his mother one day. By then, do you think you can face her righteously as she watches you from above?”
