Goodbye kiss

Book:His Winter Heart Published:2024-5-31

“Thank me after we got an A, stupid.” Was Eion’s reply the first thing in the morning when I managed to have the courage and thank him. He was sitting at his usual seat and I switched seats with the person beside him earlier to talk to Eion since the teacher is still not there.
I scoffed. What’s really with him? From the start, it was always like this. Him being rude, Him doing something good, then me thanking him, then him acting back to rude again. On and off.
He flashed me a glare before looking at his math notes. He cleared his throat, looking at me.
“We’ll have a long test in maths after the two-week break.” He informed me.
Maths? Oh, I missed that subject yesterday since I got home soon.
“Okay.” I nodded my head, “Thanks for the information. I can just go and borrow notes from Hannah at the break.”
“Hannah’s going to a family gathering.” He replied.
“Really? She didn’t mention that to me.”
“Then to Emma… but I can’t borrow it from here cause we’re not in the same class… different teacher so the topic may be different..”
“Then..” I trailed off. “Can I borrow yours then?” I asked slyly, adding a large grin for him to agree.
Instantly, he reached his hand out and handed it to me. I gawked. Well.. that was fast. I thought I had to persuade him more than that… Then if I need something in the future I can just ask him properly…
He propped his hands on his desk chair and leaned his head. He looked at me, then smiled.
With me still gawking, I could literally feel my jaw now dropping to the ground. I thought it would annoy him to even look at me, let alone smile at me.
“Quit staring like that, you look stupid.”
I wanted to hit him for calling me stupid but first, let me check if everything is still intact.
“Are you okay? Or are you sick?” I reached out to feel his forehead, then to his neck. He brushed my hand off. I continued, “What’s gotten to you? First glaring at me then smiling at me?”
“No, I’m fine, stop that.”
“It’s just too good to be true, a miracle!” I looked up to add effect as though praising the heavens. “I thought I have to fight you first before giving me those notes. Who knew you could be reasonable sometimes?”
“Class will start. Go back to your seat.” He said and did as he was told.
“Snow! Hey Snow!” Luke snapped his fingers in front of me and I was pulled back from my trance.
“What’s wrong? I’ve been talking non-stop here and you have this ‘currently in another world’ look.” He said, putting his hands on his hips as though scolding a child.
I looked around. We are now in the parking lot of the school. Has the class ended already? I guess I have not paid attention to everything today, I didn’t even remember if we had a quiz or anything.
“Have you got any plans for this break?” Asked Luke.
I looked at him in confusion. Huh?
“This two-week break. Tomorrow is the start, so glad!”
Oh right. I completely forgot about that. We have this two-week break here in school.
“Uhm, None… I think. Why?”
He pouted. “Well…. I’ll miss you then… I have to go to some family gathering the whole break! I mean I’d rather be with you that time…”
Oh right they are siblings, of course, Luke will also go as Hannah will. I chuckled. “You’re so cute.”
“Really?” He blushed.
“But you have to go there right?”
“Yeah… I mean if you want I can just skip that and be with you…”
“No, I don’t want that… It will make me feel bad like I’m a bad influence on you. I’ll just wait for you then.”
“Really? You’ll wait for me?” As a kid, he’s looking at me with big puppy eyes, hoping.
“Of course.”
“Yes!” He jumped in joy. “Fine then, if that’s what you want, I’ll do it.”
“Good boy.” I ruffled his blonde curly hair.
“Text me okay?” I nodded my head yes at his request.
“Kiss me now okay?” He smiled slyly.
I shook my head, “No.”
“Why?” He pouted. “I’ll be leaving for two weeks, can you imagine that? Two weeks!”
“Oh Luke, it’s not like you’ll leave for a year or so…”
“If I did? Will you kiss me?” He said seriously.
“Still no.”
“A goodbye kiss?” He suggested.
“No.”
“A charm?” He asked again, still not giving up.
I sighed, “No.”
He pouted, “A ‘take care’ kiss?”
“No.”
“Then I’ll steal it!” He announced. Reaching for me, he made way to my lips but I stopped him. “Not so fast,” I smirked.
He huffed. “Fine!” Scowling at me, he said, “I’ll just leave now. You won’t ever see me again!” He stuck his tongue out childishly to add effect. I just shook my head.
He was about to leave but I stopped him. In a flash, I planted a kiss on his right cheek.
“I kissed you on the left last time. Now to the right to make it even. Be sure to come back in two weeks for the kiss… here.” I trailed my hands to his lips.
He just stood there for a moment, dumbfounded. Staring at me as he held his cheek. “You…. ugh! I wasn’t expecting that! Please give me one more!”
“Bleh!” It was my turn to stick my tongue out childishly. “Now, remember what I said…” I winked.
He just nodded his head in disappointment. “Fine.” Then as if finding a new source of inspiration, he said, “I can’t wait to come back!”
With that, he dashed off hurriedly.
