EPISODE HUNDRED AND TWENTY
THEME: Her plans
JAYLEN’S APARTMENT, CHICAGO.
Adriel hit at the door consistently as she tried to get in. She had been bored and decided to call Jaylen to affirm if he would be interested in spending time out with her. However, his line kept ringing but no one picked it up.
Her worry peeked when she came through to his house and still didn’t get anyone to open the door for her. The first thing her mind went to was to contact Rosalyn who picked on the first ring.
‘Hi Adriel, sure you are good?’ Rosalyn’s voice seeped into the receiver.
‘Hi Rosalyn. I am sorry to bother you right now, but I could use your help right now. Please I have been trying to reach out to Jaylen, but he hasn’t been picking his call. I am in front of his apartment right now and no one is coming to open the door. Is he at yours or do you think he stepped out real quick?’
Rosalyn’s voice sounded on the edge as she responded. ‘Jaylen would never leave his phone unanswered. And knowing how his schedule works, he should still be in the apartment by now.’
Adriel held back a long breath. ‘Oh my God, do you think something is wrong with him?’
‘Just hold on for a minute, I will be with you in a jiffy.’ Rosalyn muttered. She disconnected the call.
Adriel tried the door again and Jaylen’s line but no response. Adriel paced around the hallway nonstop. Rosalyn almost jumped out of the elevator as she got on the floor. Her slip-on slamming the floor really hard as she made her way towards Adriel.
Rosalyn couldn’t get a hold of her breath. She knew Jaylen was going through some unexplainable moments and it scared her that he might be laying dead in the room.
“Thank God you are here, Rosalyn. Do you know his password?” Adriel inquired.
Rosalyn nodded her head, feeling too overwhelmed to respond and with shaky hands she typed in the passcode. The door opened bringing Jaylen’s lifeless body to view.
“Jaylen!” She screamed.
Adriel scrambled hurriedly next to her, gasping loudly when she saw Jaylen. “Oh my goodness, what happened to him?”
Rosalyn checked his pulse and she heaved a sigh of relief when she noticed him breathing slowly. “He is alive!” She announced.
Rosalyn dragged him closer to herself as she mumbled a silent prayer for his safety. She pulled at his hand and with Adriel’s help they were able to take him to the room and place him on the bed.
“Please Adriel, help me with a bowl of cold water and a towel please.”
Adriel went off immediately and returned with the errands. Putting the towel in the water, Rosalyn mopped Jaylen’s perspiring forehead and that jolted him back to life a bit as he kept mumbling to himself more like he was hallucinating.
“It’s okay Jaylen. You are fine now.” Rosalyn whispered to him. Almost like he heard her soothing voice, Jaylen nodded and fell into deep sleep almost immediately.
Adriel and Rosalyn let out a long sigh of relief. Rosalyn tucked him into the bed well before the both of them headed towards the kitchen to prepare a quick lunch. It was past noon already.
“You like your sandwich with peanut butter?” Rosalyn asked Adriel as she reached out for the jar.
“I am fine with whatever you do.” Adriel replied. “Is this a normal thing for Jaylen to pass out?” She asked after some seconds of silence.
Rosalyn pretended to not hear her. She had no idea what she was suppose to say to her. Jaylen and herself had never discussed his background with anyone before and it would appear like she was selling his preferred secret out.
“Might be dehydration. I guess.” She mused.
“Ok.” Adriel replied. But she could sense the hesitation in Rosalyn’s voice and didn’t want to push too much.
The both of them settled to eat their sandwiches over making small talks. Rosalyn had gone to check on Jaylen twice and he was still sleeping.
“You can leave when you are ready, Adriel. I would stay with him.” Rosa said.
“Oh no, I don’t mind staying till he is awake. It’s all good.” Adriel replied.
As much as Adriel liked Rosalyn, she didn’t trust her closeness with Jaylen. Meeting Jaylen after a long while had rekindled the secret affection she held for him back in college. Her ex had been the reason she didn’t take it up with Jaylen and expressed her feelings towards him. Adriel was thankful that fate had brought him back to her way and she wasn’t ready to let it go.
Moreover, Adriel was in a huge debt and hanging around someone as rich as Jaylen would put her finances back in check. Adriel’s intention is to get Jaylen to spend enough time with her and to enable them get intimate. She knows of his feelings for her and has decided to leech on it.
Rosalyn blinked lightly as she wondered what was going through Adriel’s head. Without saying a word, she headed towards Jaylen’s bar to pick out a bottle of Casamigos Blanco.
Adriel chuckled. “Rosa. Isn’t that too early?”
“It’s afternoon and drifting towards evening. Two shots of tequila won’t exactly hurt.” Rosalyn winked. “Want some?”
“Could indulge in your thoughts.” She shrugged.
Rosalyn laughed loudly as she filled up the mini glasses and passed one to Adriel. “Cheers.”
They clinked their glasses together and they downed the drink, squinting their eyes at the warmth of it.
“Damn! This is soothing!” Adriel blurted out.
“I told you. Let’s take more.” Rosalyn urged.
After about three shots each, the two of them rested into the kitchen stool and giggled at nothing in particular.
“So, tell me how does it feel working for Jaylen?” Adriel asked.
Rosalyn shrugged. “It is beautiful. Amazing. Jaylen is the most awesome boss I have ever met.”
“That’s so nice.” She chuckled.
“But he can be a handful.” Rosalyn added quickly as she placed her head on the kitchen island.
“Why?”
Rosalyn threw a free hand up. “He is a to be Alpha. The stress he is having to go through is really getting to him and I must say I feel so bad being unable to help him out.”
“An alpha?” Adriel arched her brows.
Rosalyn lifted her head up in amusement. “How did you not know Jaylen Damien is a werewolf?! Oh please…stop playing.” She mused dipping her head into her palms.
Adriel gazed into the blank space as she tried to wrap her head round the new information but the alcohol kept clouding her thoughts. She should have known something was different about Jaylen as regards his looks and the way he carried himself. Their society was a mixture of humans and werewolves, but she had never encountered a one on one with any of them before. To think Jaylen is to become the next leader of his clan was more surprising.
Adriel was definitely going to key in to him no matter what it would take for her to do so. She smiled to herself. Adriel poured herself another glass as she watched a sleepy Rosalyn through the rim of the glass.
