EPISODE HUNDRED AND SIX
THEME: His decision
MOON STONE FORTRESS
Everyone stared in disbelief, wondering what Jaylen meant by what he had said. Jaylen looked around glad that he could finally blurt out his exact intentions. His whole night had been turbulent with thoughts of him being confined to the Fortress and leaving everything he had worked for, for years behind all in a bid to become someone he never intends to.
Being an Alpha was a bit too much for him and it didn’t seem like anyone would accept him, despite their obvious reaction at the auditorium, the bowing of heads and hailing of the Alpha, it still didn’t have him convinced.
“What?!” Jayden spat, after getting out of his dumfounded state.
“What are you saying, Jaylen?” Lorelei inquired with a confused look on her face.
Turning away from his brother, Jaylen walked towards her and he grabbed her arms lightly. “Listen to me baby, we don’t really need all of this. I have a great life in Chicago. So come with me to Chicago, we would be fine. You can work in the biggest hospitals in that place. We would start a new life and leave all of this behind.” He rushed out his words but still trying to sound convincing enough.
Lorelei stared in dismay. She was shocked. Everything Jaylen just said sounded like an echo. “What do you mean?”
Jaylen held on to her face lovingly and stared straight into her eyes. “All I am saying is, I don’t want all of this baby. And I am sure you don’t want it too. So let us get out of here from all of this chaos. Please.” He pleaded.
Lorelei jerked free from him. “Are you listening to yourself at all? Why would you run from your duties?!” She gritted.
“What?!” Jaylen exclaimed. “How is it my duty? Jayden has prepped up for this all his life and I have mine too in Chicago too. I don’t care whatever it is the Moon Goddess has in mind. But I have made up my mind that I am heading back to where my soul connects to and where I belong.”
Lorelei held onto her chest as tears clouded her vision. “Are you saying your soul doesn’t connect here? Not even with me?” She demanded.
Everyone stared at them as both lovers bickered between themselves.
“Lorelei, you and I can return to Chicago together baby. We can get married and settle right in.” He insisted, trying to hold her gaze so she could see his sincerity.
“Just as you feel connected to Chicago, the Moon Stone Fortress is my home, Jaylen. I can’t leave my job, my family and come with you.” Lorelei’s voice shook as she spoke to him. Deep down in her mind, she hoped Jaylen would rethink his decision.
Jaylen looked like his world was crumbling right in front of him. He would have never thought Lorelei would reject moving out with him. It had been a sort of reassuring words that he had whispered to himself. He was assured that Lorelei would be by his side no matter what. He had wanted to believe that, she loves him enough to take the leap with him and even help him stay sane.
“Does that mean you wouldn’t come with me?” Jaylen asked cautiously with a hope that he had heard wrong
Lorelei sniffed as tears rolled down her eyes. “I mean every word, Jaylen. If you leave this minute then it is over between us.”
Jaylen scoffed. “That’s a joke right?”
“This isn’t a joke, Jaylen. If you can’t stay back and protect the dignity of this Fortress and everything your father has worked for, then I won’t be a coward like you. I am not coming with you, Jaylen. I love you and all but this isn’t right.” She grimaced.
Jaylen blinked his eyes as if he just woke from a trance. He stared in disbelief at her words and his eyes caught sight of Jayden chuckling at his misery. “Did you just call me a coward?”
Lorelei looked away as she tried to hold back her tears but failed at it. She would have never thought the both of them would have this argument. Things had been going quite well, her thought was Jaylen would have a bit of hard time adjusting to being an Alpha for about a month or two but she trusted that he would be back on track. What she didn’t expect was him, dropping everything to Jayden and running with his tail in between his legs.
Jaylen balled his fist hard as he stared straight at her in the face. “You know what? Think whatever it is you want. I am leaving and don’t expect to ever see me again. Coming here was a very wrong decision in the first place!” He stated in a pained tone before storming off.
“You can’t do this Jaylen! Please Jaylen.” Meagan called after him as she almost lost a footing.
Trying to get his arm off his mother’s grip, Jaylen looked sideways trying to avoid her eyes and everyone else.
“Jaylen…please don’t leave.” Meagan begged.
Jaylen took in a deep breath before he finally held her gaze. “You know what mom? This wasn’t ever going to work in the first place. You knew this from the start and it is why you and dad kept it away from me up until now. It is so obvious that I have nothing to do here anymore. Thanks for the good time.”
Meagan still held onto him. “Jaylen…” She cried profusely as he attempted to leave. Jayden clapped his hands together, nodding his head pitifully at the mother and son duo.
“You should be grateful he had a change of mind mom. And I must say brother, this is the best decision you would ever make.” He said before walking away.
“Don’t be this way, Jaylen. We need you to keep the Fortress together please.” Sebastian said.
“Please Jaylen. Don’t do this. You cannot leave now. The Fortress needs you.” Julius added as he looked towards his wife.
“This is not right. I am sorry to disappoint you all, but I am leaving.” Jaylen insisted.
“Run! Run! Just run like you always do!” Claire who had appeared quiet all through the scene blurted out in anger. “The first time you had run off all because you were too much of a coward to fight back. We had thought it was you wanting peace and probably because you were too weak to go against Jayden’s strong wolf. But now what excuse do you have running away from your place, from your responsibility?! You know what, I hate you both! I regret having you both as brothers! All you have ever done is cause us so much pain and act like it is all about you! Go fuck yourself. You should go and never come back, seems like the best option.” She moved closer to her mom’s as she uttered those words. “Let’s go in mom. None of them deserves your concern.” Claire wailed as she held onto her mother’s arm to pull her along.
Tears trailed down Jaylen’s face as he watched his mother and sister’s receding back. Lorelei cried into her mother’s arms as he turned away to leave.
