Chapter Hundred and Sixty-One – His Change.
Chris’s POV
Logan had a dirty game up. And he wants everyone to play it with him.
He had already signed up Jaden to play by holding his Beta.
He signed up Red Moon by kidnapped three of their pack members who sold charms.
I wonder who he was targeting next.
Perhaps my sister should be at my pack to prevent me from overthinking.
Ray rushed into the stable, looking pissed.
“What now?” I jumped down from my horse.
“I just heard that Rihanna took a pleasure trip to Sun Burn Kingdom.” He grunted. “What if Logan attacks her pack?”
I blinked furiously before sighing. She could be reckless but I doubted it was a fun trip.
Sun Burn Kingdom were our international allies and she knew, so she might have gone looking for a favor against Logan.
Though it’d be better if her Alpha King had a little clue. Or her mate at least.
Jaden had informed all the pack to be very careful and protect their borders jealously. Logan could hit from anywhere.
“I’m glad I didn’t send the letter to Jaden telling him Logan was still unconscious.” My Beta said.
I turned to him and nodded. That Lycan once again had been shady but thankfully, he didn’t let us spread it.
He was really growing powerful if he could sense us from far away then prepare that prank.
“I also wonder and fear what charm he wants those poor sellers to make for him.” I said my thoughts out loud.
Ray climbed his horse and led it out of the stable. “Maybe something that’d weaken Alpha wolves. Or worse.”
“Where are you off to?” I queried seeing him ride out hurriedly.
“To stay with our warriors! Logan shouldn’t have anything on us! You should go and get Vanessa back too!” He replied, leaving.
He must have read my mind. I climbed my horse again and followed him. “Raymond, wait up!”
Together, we ran past the border, despite the unapproving glares from Cara.
Soon Ray swerved to the warriors, I kept going ahead. I rubbed my horse on the neck as I noticed him slowing down.
There was no reason to slow down except for the shrill cries of birds. What was that even about?
“C’mon!” I urged him and he picked up again. We were getting closer to Black Rose’s forest.
But at the entrance, my horse stopped almost throwing me down. I leapt to the ground and held him by the reins. “What’s wrong with you?”
He was unsettling and wanted to leave the place. But for some reasons, I couldn’t sense the danger he sensed.
I took out my whip and flashed in front of him, making him away that if he didn’t behave, I’d be using it. He calmed down eventually.
I didn’t bother ride him so walked into the forest.
The air around was eerie, like there was a presence within the forest. Not a dark one so it wouldn’t be Liam.
It didn’t also feel like Logan’s, except I wasn’t sure. A small animal ran under my legs.
It made my horse neigh loudly and I crouched down. I glared at him. “Could you stop being dramatic?”
He was Vanessa’s horse and since I wanted to pick her, I came with him but he seemed to have the drama energy of his owner.
We got around Black Rose border.
I knew their warriors were rough with rogues so I thought of a way of alerting them without getting close.
I tried tying the horse on a tree but he shrieked, galloping around in circles.
What in the hell was this?
I’ve never wanted, so badly, to be able to communicate with horses.
An intimidating energy became present around me. The horse laid low, lying on the ground in submission.
Was it this presence that had been troubling him? I gazed at the person coming, readying myself for an attack.
“Horses, I hate them.” the person had Jaden’s voice, but not his aura. “Alpha Chris, where you passing by or coming to me?”
It was actually Jaden when he came to full view. He wore a black sleeveless jacket with suede black trousers.
His hair had become longer and covered a part of his eyes. It was quite hot though.
Hasn’t been only three days since I saw him?
“Um… coming to see you.” I replied carefully.
He tilted his head and nodded. “Welcome then.”
As he passed the horse, it neighed softly like a kind of greeting but Jaden ignored it. “I’d keep the horse at the stables. It’d be okay.”
I found myself, nodding and following him obediently. The horse was also obedient.
Was it Jaden’s energy that had consumed the forest to look gloom and troubled animals?
“Jaden, are you doing okay?” I asked him.
We just turned to the path to the border gate. He shrugged. “I’m doing as fine as I can be. Why?”
“I know you’re worried about Ralph but you seem to be… I’m not sure.” It was strange.
The border warriors brought down their weapons and bowed as we walked into the gate.
Jaden’s visible eyes closed shut, he exhaled. “I wasn’t able to conserve my energy and my wolf is crazy.”
How was that an explanation to my question?
“Maybe I’d get myself back when Ralph and the rest are safe, for now, I’m not sure as well.”
When he flashed me his usual smile, I smiled back. As long as he was able to force a smile, he will be okay when things are back to normal.
Another reason he could be growing gloom was that his mate wasn’t around to cheer him up. I wonder how they survived.
“You know Rihanna left for Sun Burn Kingdom on a trip, right?” I asked.
He looked down, nodding. “I hope she returned with something worthy. We needed to meet with Logan and be very sure we’re winning.”
Yeah and without a silver wolf, that’d at least defend us with her barrier, we could end up only riling Logan up and killing innocents.
“I don’t know what Sun Burn Kingdom can offer us against Logan but we should hope.” I said.
He led me past the courtroom and towards a training ground. I paused. What was he doing?
With his energy giving off that gloom aura, I wasn’t sure about dueling with him.
“Oh, we aren’t dueling, I just want to get some gifts Jake dropped off for you to give to Ray.” He said, without turning to me.
I heaved a sigh of relief before following him, obediently. His energy was really intimidating.
