Chapter Hundred and Thirty-Nine – Dead messenger.
Chris’s POV
What was before me wasn’t caused by Logan.
I was sure.
Blood was splattered everywhere and her legs were hung on trees. The other half of her body laid by the road path.
This was too much effort to kill one female messenger of my pack. Logan would only need to knock her out.
Her uniform had been stolen too. What would Logan need that for? He couldn’t have done this.
“Then who?” my wolf, Zeke, asked.
I had no answer to that. My arms were on my hips as the warriors, Edwin and I studied the scene. The body was fresh so it was recent.
Whatever did it was in wolf form.
“Could this be a new threat?” Edwin exhaled, facing me. His arms were wrapped around him.
It had to be. Perhaps a rogue I had missed when completing Your Silver’s reward. He was now taking revenge.
If that was true, this messenger’s death was my fault. I am to blame for the innocent girl’s death.
“A letter that was sent to Silver Pack is missing from her bag. She didn’t get to deliver the rest.” A warrior ran to me to say.
Silver Pack? I didn’t send a letter to Silver Pack.
“Oh, I did.” Edwin signified. “I remembered how we accused Silver Pack’s lead warrior of being Sasha’s kidnapper. So I wrote to apologize.”
I nodded, looking away from the mess. That should mean whoever did this was targeting the letter sent to Silver Pack. But why?
“Why would they steal your apology letter?” I asked, out loud.
“Maybe as an invitation to get into Silver Pack.” Edwin hurriedly replied.
I snapped my head at him. “Is that so?” but it made sense.
With our uniform and a letter with Black Hills seal, a Silver Pack warrior would easily accept whatever he brought.
“That also meant, his target is Silver Pack and not us. That’s comforting.” Edwin sighed.
What a Royal Delta! If Silver Pack was being a target, was it a good thing?
Your Silver’s protection was important. Even if this wasn’t Logan, it was expedient that the Silver Wolf was safe.
“Warriors stay back. This new threat should be watched. It’s more gruesome than Logan so at least ten of you should remain.” I ordered.
They saluted and began dispersing themselves.
I remembered Your Silver’s letter that I read before leaving the place. She wanted to work together and ambush Logan, that was high time.
My sister was still at Black Hills and I didn’t know if she was safe returning on her own. Also, I really hoped she made progress with her mate.
“Edwin, you’d follow me to Black Hills. I needed to bring my sister home and have a talk with Alpha Jaden over Rihanna’s plan.”
My Delta frowned, ogling at me. He pointed the body of the messenger. “We don’t know what did this. I’d say the small demon but he’s…”
“A child!” I finished. “Stop being scared of these things when you’re a Delta for goodness sake.”
He pouted, folding his arms and being stubborn. “Well, Vanessa can stay there. It’s not like she does anything for us back at Black Hills.”
What? How dare he… He was right though.
I sighed. “Wouldn’t you want your Alpha to be happy that all his family members were safe with him?”
He dropped his arm, looking down.
“Also, I said I wanted to talk to the Alpha Jaden. I have things to ask.” One of them being getting a reaction to Your Silver being his mate or not.
A warrior ran to us with another finding. “We saw a male cloth few miles away. It could be the man that killed the messenger.”
He changed into the messenger’s uniform and ditched his clothes? I bet he planned to keep infiltrating silver pack.
Was he delivering a message?
“Thank you, you and the rest should be careful. Your Delta and I are stopping by Black Rose.”
Edwin huffed, brushing his hair.
The warrior returned and relayed the information to his colleagues. I held unto Edwin then sped off.
As I sped towards Black Rose, I had to stop. The scent of a new rogue wolf was everywhere in the forest. Like it was lurking about, even now.
Edwin was about scolding me for speeding off with him but he tempered down, feeling the eerie energy around us.
“Who are you? And what are you doing in my Kingdom!” I raised my voice.
Edwin slowly went behind me. There was silence. I felt for the energy and it pointed me to a dark area within a group of trees.
“I know you are in there! Come out now before I find you!” I shouted again. I felt his energy.
At best, he was in Beta rank or relatively a higher Delta rank. My claws left my fingers.
“Do you really want him to find you?” Edwin asked with a tsk.
I steadily inched towards where he hid. He had a great darkness around him. Like a Lycan.
My feet froze when I realized he was a Lycan.
“Why did you stop Alpha King?” a small voice asked me. I went backwards.
“What’s wrong!” Edwin asked, standing in stance to attack.
“It’s a Lycan.” I told him in mind link. “Brace yourself, he has very dark energy about him.”
My Delta and I stared at the dark area within the trees, waiting for the Lycan to leave.
I can’t even wrap my head around how another Lycan existed. “Show yourself!”
A light sigh left his lips then his eyes glowed from the dark area, they were light orange.
He sped from the dark area towards us, standing under the moon. His gray eyes dived into mine, they were soulless.
He had long blonde hair that looked like a wig, only because it was thick as well. He was beautiful and young.
“You are a Lycan. What do you want here?” I tried not to raise my voice since he didn’t look dangerous.
“Well, um, nothing much.” He shrugged. “I like being in dark places and here is the darkest I could find.” He causally replied.
I looked at the place he pointed. There’s no light in them. “Who’re you? What are you doing?”
“The name’s Liam. I was just chilling.” He raised a brow. He was being too casual.
Edwin glanced at me then back at him. “Did you kill a girl recently…”
“That wasn’t me. That was Pedro.” He quickly replied. “He’s a Lycan.”
The boy looked physically harmless. Though his energy and aura said otherwise.
“There was another Lycan?” I asked. Now just how many are these things around here?
