Chapter 97

Book:Alpha's Puppet  Published:2024-5-31

When Lily left Zeeb’s room, Benjamin was the first person she saw. She had to hide the excitement that she came out with. She replied him hurriedly and even with excitement. She would not have replied him that much, but she did anyway. She left him so she should not say more than she ought to. She intentd to go to Ava’s room and tell her something she just found out.
She hurried to wards Ava room. Surprised at how calm she is even though her pack is under threat. She does not understand why Shane would want war with them or why any Alpha would want war with them. It’s the twenty first century, and the world has gone past age of wars and all. But it seems the werewolves are still adamant to that. Or maybe her pack is one thing that still serve as a symbol of hope. After all, so many other packs tremble at the sight of their pack.
“But I guess it’s all changed. And werewolves will keep seeking battles for all eternity. We have anger in us. Our rage and everything. We need to divert them somewhere. And we cannot divert them to the humans, so reason for our endless wars amongst ourselves,” she convinced herself. Lily find it amusing how one werewolf is stronger than two or even three humans. But once they are together, humans form better comrades-in-arm than werewolves. And she knows humans have some weapons that could obliterate most if not all werewolves.
She arrived at Ava’s room but before she could knock, she saw her brother come out of the room. She was surprised. She looked at him. He raised his face and look at her.
“Brother?” She called. His face seems red out of anger or maybe sadness. He walked past her and hurried towards his office.
“Ava! What’s wrong?” She asked.
“Nothing. We were just discussing,” Ava replied.
“What sort of discussion? What could make my brother’s face that red?” Lily smiled.
“Well, he came in here and saw Benjamin. I don’t know why he actually came to meet me. But he was trying to blame Benjamin for the attack,” Ava said.
“Why?”
“Well, Shane Moss, the man attacking, his Benjamin’s former mate. And it seemed before the man became an Alpha, he was a beta in the night wolf pack. And Alpha Jax picked Benjamin as part of a deal between him and the Alpha. So now, Shane is an Alpha and he came for his mate. And your brother said both of them had been in contact and conspired against him. Even though Benjamin says they haven’t,” Ava narrated.
“Oh my goodness! What horrible thing! What else has Jax done that I don’t know of?” Lily gasped, angry at her brother.
“I guess you miss the part where your brother tried to make me understand him. He explains that he is not blaming Benjamin, that there has only been a misunderstanding,” Ava said.
“Did he ask you to come be his mate?”
“You think your brother will?” Ava said.
“Yes! I feel he wants you to hate Ben and see him as the bad guy,” Lily suggested.
“I sensed that too. He probably does not want to say it. He wants to get me through other means. So it does not seem like he is the one who sought me out,” Ava said.
“Ava! All of a sudden, you have become strange and wild in ways I could never imagine,” Lily commented.
“I have always been like this, my lady. It was love and lack of support who held me back,” Ava said. Lily smiled. She understood Ava.
“Just take care of my brother. Don’t hurt him too much, eh?” Lily begged.
“I will never. He is my mate. The love of my life. I will protect him the way you have protected me. What I did today was just protecting him against his pride,” Ava said. She sobbed a little. Lily grabbed her and hugged her.
“It will be fine,” she promised Ava.
Lily left Ava’s room and walk towards her room. She thought of going to Zeeb’s room but she decided against it. Immediately she got out of Ava’s room, was when she remembered what she wanted to tell Ava. It’s night already and it will be unnecessary to go back in there. She would not just finish what she is supposed to do. Lily looked around the palace, and she saw a man squatted at one corner of a wall. The man waited for the guard to pass. He did not move. She bent down and moved to a point where she could see the man clearer. She saw Benjamin. She wondered what he was doing there. She was about to run to him when he sprinted, and jumped the walls. She was puzzled. She stopped. She remembered what Ava said about the man attacking being Benjamin’s mate. It puzzled her. She swore she would not leave the position she is till morning. She will wait to see what Benjamin will bring back. Lily knew he will come back.
Hours later when Benjamin jumped back in, she let him run away. She rushed back towards his room and waited close to his door. He climbed the stairs and came before her.
“I won’t ask where you went because I know already. I only have a question, was it worth it?” Lily asked.
“What my lady? What is worth it?”
“To see your mate. Risking your life to fly away to see your mate and come back, was it worth it?” Lily repeated her question. Benjamin did not answer her. She walked closer to him.
“No one will hear of this, but let’s have a discussion, in your room,” she ordered. Benjamin opened his room and she entered. He closed his room and rest his back against the door.
“I have never done anything more purposeful than what I just did. It was worth it. Whatever will come after this, I am sure seeing my mate will be worth it,” Benjamin replied.
